Marie Wood

Marie Wood, 84, of East Main Street, Port Elgin, passed away at the Sackville Memorial Hospital on Friday January 4,2002 after a Brief illness. Born in Tidnish Bridge NS, she was the daughter of the late George and Flora (Madison) Chappell. Marie was retired from Roy Smith’s Varity store, member of the Trinity United Church, U.C.W. within the church and West-East Senior’s Citizen Club.

Marie will be sadly missed by her husband David Wood, Daughters; Flora May (Richard), Barbara MacInnis (Frank), Moncton, Carol Burns (David), Antigonish, NS, Sons; Kenneth, Moncton, Stanley (Pam), Nanomi, BC, 8 Grandchildren, 6 Great Grandchildren, Several Nieces and Nephews. Predeceased by Sister Etta, Brother Burton.

Visitation was held Sunday, Funeral service at Trinity United Church, Port Elgin, Monday January 7,2002, 2 pm. Rev. Susan King-Darby officiating. Reception following the service. Interment, Fernwood Cemetery, Port Elgin. In Marie’s memory donations made directly to Trinity United Church would be appreciated by the family. Ferguson Knowles Funeral Home, 1657 Mountain Rd., Moncton in care of arrangements.

Mary E. Singer

Mary E. Singer, 77, of Cameron St., Moncton, passed away at the Moncton Hospital on Wednesday January 23, 2002. Born in Newcastle, daughter of the Late Charles and Della (Hyland) Buckley.

Mary was a retired Service Department Manager with N.B.Tel, attended St. Bernard’s Roman Catholic Church, member of the NB Tel Pioneers, Centennial Lawn Bowling Club. Former member and volunteer Canadian Order of Forresters, Moncton Hospital and United Way. Former member of Lakeside Golf Club and the Beaver Curling Club.

Mary will be sadly missed by her sister: Theresa MacLellan (Duncan), Boston, Mass. Brother: Lewis Buckley (Clarice), North York, Ont. Several Nieces and Nephews. Predeceased by her husband Douglas Singer (1977), Brothers; Leo, Vincent, Harry.

No visitation by personal request. Funeral Mass at St. Bernard’s Roman Catholic Church Saturday January 26, 9:30am, Rev. Bernard Sloan officiating. Reception in the church hall following the Mass. Interment, Our Lady of Calvary Cemetery. In Mary’s memory, those wishing may make donations to the Friends of the Moncton Hospital at (857-5488), Canadian Cancer Society at (859-6977) or memorial of your choice.

Donald C. Steeves

Donald C. Steeves, 60, of Berry Mills, passed away at Dr. Georges Dumont Hospital , Moncton, Friday January 18, 2002.

Born in Moncton he was the son of the Late Vincent and Ruth (Duffy) Steeves and was a former employee of The Lutes Mountain Tourist Bureau.

Don is survived by his sister: Annie Sherwood, Moncton; Brothers: Walter (Pearl), Saint John: Ronald (Audrey), Ralph, Berry Mills: Norman (Ruth), Waverley, NS. Sisters-In-Law; Helen and Mae Steeves, Berry Mills; Several Nieces and nephews. Predeceased by Brothers; Dewey, Eldon, Harold.

No visitation by request. Private family service at Ferguson Knowles Funeral Home Chapel, 1657 Mountain Road, Moncton (858-1995). Rev. Brian Steeves officiating.

Interment Steeves Mountain Cemetery. In Don’s memory, those wishing please make donations to the memorial of your choice.

Pierce A. Butland

Pierce (Jerry) A. Butland 90, of Moncton passed away at the Dr. George Dumont Hospital on Saturday January 19, 2002. Born in Alma, he was the son of the Late Rainsford and Katherine (MacQuaid) Butland. Pierce was a retired building contractor (Carpenter), attended the United Church of Canada, member of Albert Lodge # 34 F & AM Riverside Albert, member and Past President of Moncton Legion # 6, Veteran of the 2nd World War served with the R.C.A.F.

Pierce will be sadly missed by his wife of over 70 years, Dora (Dickson) Butland; Daughter: Edna Oulton (Bob), Dieppe: Sons; Vaughn (Josephine) (Joe), Kamloops, BC; Richard (Dick) (Nelida), Dieppe; Eight grandchildren, nine great grandchildren, several nieces and nephews. He was the last surviving member of his immediate family. Predeceased by his daughter Paula (1969).

In keeping with Pierce’s wishes, there will be no public visitation or Funeral Service. Private family service to be held. Interment, Fair Haven Cemetery. In Pierce’s memory, those wishing may make donations to the memorial of your choice. Arrangements in care of Ferguson Knowles Funeral Home, 1657 Mountain Rd. Moncton.

Evelyn M. Estabrooks

Evelyn M. Estabrooks, 94, of Royal Court,Riverview and formerly of Verdun St. Moncton passed away at The Moncton Hospital Wednesday January 30, 2002.

Born in Sackville daughter of the Late Arthur and Alice (Phinney) Estabrooks. Evelyn was a retired employee of The C.N.R. Offices, member of First Moncton United Baptist Church, The Christian Women and The Gullison W.M.S. within the church. Evelyn will be sadly missed by her nephew Clinton (Clint) Estabrooks (Delphine (Dellie), Moncton. Predeceased by her sister Violet Brownell; Brothers: Jasper and Cutter Estabrooks. She was the last surviving member of her immediate family.

In keeping with Evelyn’s wishes there will be no visitation or funeral service. Private family service to be held. Interment in Sackville Cemetery, Sackville. In Evelyn’s memory, those wishing may make donations to The Friends of The Moncton Hospital at 857-5488.

Pearl M. Carter

Pearl M. Carter 86, of Derby Street, Moncton and formerly of Kouchibouguac passed away at the Rexton Lions Nursing Home Thursday May 23, 2002. Born in Kouchibouguac daughter of the late Farquhar and Mary (McIsaac) MacDonald. Pearl attended St. James Roman Catholic Church, Kouchibouguac and St. Augustines Roman Catholic Church, Moncton.

Pearl will be sadly missed by her daughters, Mildred Carter, Violet O’Connor (Late Joseph), Audrey Collins (Late Guy), Caroline Miller (Brian), Peggy Tidd (Kenneth), Moncton; Mary (Mamie) Glencross (Vance), Rexton; Betty Ann Potter (Melvin), Deep River, ON; Debbie Stewart (Craig), Kouchibouguac; sons, Wesley (Gwyneth), Riverview; Wayne (Janice), Ralph, McKees Mills; 31 grandchildren, 24 great grandchildren; sister, Ella Patterson, Moncton; brothers, Victor MacDonald (Louise), Kouchibouguac; Earl MacDonald (Late Margaret), Saint John. Several nieces and nephews.

Predeceased by her husband, James Carter (1981), daughter, Joyce Amos (Cleveland 1964), infant son Victor Carter (1946), great grandson Jason Carter (2001), brothers, Alex, John, James, Hazen, Austin.

Visitation at Ferguson Knowles Funeral Home, 1657 Mountain Road, Moncton (858-1995) Saturday 7-9, Sunday 2-4, 7-9, parish prayers Sunday 8:30pm. Funeral Mass at St. Augustines Roman Catholic Church Monday May 27, 2002, 1pm, Rev. Allison Carroll officiating. Interment, St. James Roman Catholic Cemetery, Kouchibouguac.

Harold H. Cudmore

Harold H. Cudmore 84, of Upland Road, Moncton passed away at the Moncton Hospital on Friday May 10, 2002. Born in Moncton, son of the Late James and Bertha (Mullin) Cudmore. Harold was retired from C.N.R. Shops with 38 years service. Member of St. Andrews Presbyterian Church, former member of the Church Board of Trustees, and was formerly active in the Cub Movement. Member of Moncton Legion Branch # 6, veteran of the 2nd World War, served overseas for 5 ½ years in England, Italy and the Mediterranean Area with The Royal Canadian Army.

Harold will be sadly missed by his wife: Dorothy (Alton) Cudmore: Daughter; Brenda Poirier, Halifax: Granddaughter; Amanda Poirier (Martin Higgins), Upper Musquodoboit, NS: Great-Grandchildren; Rebecca, Ceilidh: Sister; Hazel Mullin, Moncton: Brothers; Archie (Margaret), Boundary Creek; Roy (Leona), Riverview; Several nieces and nephews. Predeceased by Brothers Sterling, Kenneth; Sister; Stella.

Funeral Service at Ferguson Knowles Funeral Home Chapel, Sunday May 12, 2002, 2pm, Dr. Martin Kreplin officiating. Refreshments following the Service. Interment, Fair Haven Cemetery.

Allison A. Gillcash

Allison (Allie) A. Gillcash, 80 of Lutes Mountain, passed away at the Moncton Hospital on Wednesday May 15, 2002. Born in Dunblane, PE, Allie was the son of the Late William and Elva (Matthews) Gillcash.

Allie was a retired Carpenter Foreman having worked in other parts of the Country including; Goose Bay, Labrador: Resolute Island, Argentia, NFLD: Saigon, South Vietnam as well as the Moncton Area until his retirement from the family firm Tri-Gil Paving and Construction Ltd. He was a member of Lutes Mountain Church of the Nazarene and a veteran of the 2nd World War, served with the Royal Canadian Army.

Allie will be sadly missed by his wife of over 48 years Doris (Sprague) Gillcash: Daughters; Linda Cail (Robert), Lutes Mountain; Cindy Murray (Stephen), Moncton: Sons; Gerald (Judy), Steeves Mountain; Charlie (Patti), Ammon; Danny (Judy), Indian Mountain; David (Gayle), Stilesville; Shawn (Shirley), Moncton: 15 Grandchildren: 3 Great-Grandchildren: Brothers; Norman (Phyllis), Lutes Mountain; Lloyd (Louise), Calgary,AB: Several Nieces and Nephews. Besides his parents, predeceased by one sister, Edna Eagles: Brothers; Wallace, Melvin, Victor, Vernon, Irving.

Elsie Killam, wife of the Late Lester Killam (1997)of Moncton, passed away Saturday May 4, 2002. Born in St. Anne de Bellevue, PQ, daughter of the late Thomas and Bertha (Baker) Norcott.

Elsie will be sadly missed by her sons: Jim (Debra), Port Hope,ON; Robert (Joanne), Midhurst, ON. Grandchildren: Peter, Andrew, David, Jonathon, Nyssa, Katrina, Kristin. Daughter-In-Law; Nancy Killam, Montreal, PQ: Brother; Jack Norcott (Mary), White Rock,BC: Sister-In-Law: Bette Norcott, Cobourg, ON. Several nieces and nephews. Besides her husband, predeceased by her son:Thomas (1995): Brother, Bill.

No visitation by request. Funeral Service at St. Philips Anglican Church, Lynch St. Friday May 10, 2002. 11am. Rev. Kevin Borthwick officiating.
