BAIRD, Joan - On Tuesday, May 30th, 2000 at the St. Catharines General Hospital, at 65 years of age. Beloved wife of Everett. Loving mother of Kim, Ted, Tim and families. Dear daughter of Edith Lett, sister of Sam Lett and family. Predeceased by her son Jerry and daughter Robin. Family will receive friends at the GEORGE DARTE FUNERAL CHAPEL, 585 Carlton St. on Thursday from 12 noon to 1:00 p.m. A service to celebrate Joan's life will be held in the chapel at 1:00 p.m. Cremation has taken place. Inurnment will follow in Victoria Lawn cemetery. If so desired, memorial remembrances to the Canadian Hemophiliac Society would be appreciated by the family.

CIANCIO, "Connie" Costantine - passed away peacefully at the Shaver Hospital, St. Catharines on Tuesday, May 30th, 2000 in his 91st year. Beloved husband of 66 years to "Angie" Angelina (Romano) Ciancio of Thorold. Loving father of Don and his wife Carmel and Carolyn Acker. Dear brother of the late Josephine D'Ammizio (1990), Esther (1999), Nick (1999), John (1993), Daniel (1984), Albert "Tromb" (1991) and James (1995). Beloved brother-in-law of Leona Ciancio, Rose Augustine and Edna Ciancio all of Thorold. Loved uncle of many nieces and nephews. Connie retired in 1972 from General Motors after 31 years. Connie is resting at the KARL A. HAMMOND FUNERAL HOME AND CHAPEL, 26 Ormond Street South, Thorold for visitation on Wednesday 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. Funeral on Thursday, June 1st to Holy Rosary Church (corner of Queen Street and Sullivan Avenue), Thorold for Funeral Mass at 10:00 a.m. The Rite of Committal with Entombment Lakeview cemetery Mausoleum, Thorold. The Vigil for Connie will be celebrated at the Funeral Home on Wednesday at 3:00 p.m. If so desired expressions of sympathy may be made to the Hotel Dieu Hospital Oncology Clinic or the Shaver Hospital Foundation.

DODDS, Elizabeth Mary (Andrews) - Peacefully at the West Lincoln Memorial Hospital, on Friday, May 26, 2000. Mary Dodds, in her 83rd year. Beloved mother of Douglas Dodds (1998), James Dodds of Grimsby and Diana Lukianchuk (Dodds) of Erikson, Manitoba. She will be dearly missed by her grandchildren, Timothy Dodds, his wife Justine Green, Tanya Dodds, Andrew Dodds, David and Cindy Lukianchuk, son-in-law Harry Lukianchuk, daughter-in-law Betty Dodds and extended family members, Sue Dodds and Joseph Bognar, Nancy Culp of Niagara Falls and additional family in northern Ontario. She joins finally, her beloved husband Reginald Dodds (1970). Mary was born on January 7, 1919 in Cobalt, Ontario. Joining the Grimsby community in the mid-Forties, Mary was a permanent and dependant fixture as Head Secretary of Central Public School until her retirement in 1984. She was a longstanding member of the United Church's Ladies Auxiliary. More often than not, Mary was found breathing the frosty air of the region's ice rinks spurring on her grandchildren's pursuit for hockey stardom or huddled over a delicate patch of exquisite needlework to adorn family walls. A privately social person, Mary was a member of a very active bridge club who will most dearly miss her wit and sharp humour. A private family internment will take place Saturday, June 3, 9:30 a.m. at Queen's Lawn cemetery , at the Dodds family plot. Friends are invited to a Memorial Service being held on Saturday, June 3, 11 a.m., at St. John's Presbyterian Church, 10 Mountain St, Grimsby. In lieu of flowers, donations to the Ontario Heart and Stoke Foundation or the Canadian Cancer Society would be appreciated by the family. The family would like to thank the following for their compassion, advice and kindness: Sheila Tootell of Paramed, Victoria Order of Nurses, Jo Nicholl and the staff of the Stonehouse-Whitcomb Funeral Home.

Cherished Papa of Shawn, Craig, Heidi, Lenny, John, Marcia and Shane (Little Fella), Kelsey and Kyle his two great-grandchildren. Dear brother of Steve Horwat, Helen (John) Lorence and Vicki (Karl) Konwisarz. Predeceased by a sister Anne Kresses and a brother Frank Horwat. Bill is resting at the PATRICK J. Wife of Donald and mother of Bonnie and Ben Bader of Beamsville, the late Richard (1999), Ken of St. Catharines, Randy and Lily of Grimsby, Reg, Mary Beth and John Sann, all of Beamsville and Lisa and Bill Coulson of Whitby. Grandmother of Kelly and Adam, David, Bryan, Julie, Kevin, Jeff, Stephanie, Alena, Bradley, Katie and Marlaina. Sister of Margaret and Charlie Campbell, John and Maxine Peters all of Virgil and Henry and Ann Peters of Bobcaygeon. Mrs. Konkle is at the TALLMAN FUNERAL HOME, 4998 King St., Beamsville where the family will receive friends on Wednesday 2:30-4:30 and 7-8:30. The funeral service will be held in the Chapel on Thursday, June 1 at 1:00 p.m. Cremation to follow. If desired, donations to the Kidney Foundation would be appreciated by the family.

Father of Bob (Judy) McSporran and Lynn, all of St. Catharines, and Marie (Vince) Forte of Port Colborne. Papa of Mark, Lori, John and Steven. Great-grandfather of Sarah and Deven Pyle. Survived by his sister Margaret (Ernest) Cox, brother-in-law of Howard (Bucky) Walters and Doris Smelle. Predeceased by his sister Janet Walters (1999). Robert was born in St. Catharines on June 14, 1917, was employed with Lightning Fastener for 43 years, was a member of The Royal Canadian Legion, Branch 24, for 53 years, was an avid sportsman, being involved with little league hockey and baseball as a coach for many years, and was a member of St. Paul Street United Church. The family will receive friends at the HULSE & ENGLISH FUNERAL HOME AND CHAPEL, 75 Church Street (684-6346), on Tuesday from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. Royal Canadian Legion, Branch 24, will hold a Memorial Service in the Funeral Home on Tuesday at 7 p.m. Funeral Service in the chapel on Wednesday, May 31, 2000, at 10:30 a.m. Interment to follow in Victoria Lawn cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Arthritis Society or Diabetes Association.

Gordon Read, 92 years of age, longtime member of St. Mark's Lodge No. 105 A.F. & A.M., beloved husband of the late Margaret C. Read (1994), loving father of Don and his wife Sally, Niagara-on-the-Lake, and Julie and her husband Bryan Hart, Niagara Falls, dear grandfather of Heather and her husband Mike Eatson, Peterborough, Kyle and his wife Lisa, Niagara Falls, Jacquie and her husband Paul Goodman, Niagara-on-the-Lake, and the late Calvin Read, dear great-grandfather of Eric and Graeme Eatson, Samantha and Jakob Hart, Daniel and Calvin Goodman, brother of Cecil Read and Margaret Johnson, and brother-in-law of Margaret Read and Norma Morton, all of St. Catharines. A graveside service will be held at Christ Church (McNab) cemetery (corner of McNab and Lakeshore Road, Niagara-on-the-Lake) on Wednesday afternoon at 3:00 o'clock. ROGERS, Douglas R., Lt. Col., C.D. - At home with his wife and best friend Joy, who will love him always, and his faithful Labrador Retriever, Ebony. He lived his life and bore his last illness with bravery, dignity and a sense of humour. He will be missed greatly by his brother Gordon (Julia) and his family (Louise, Mary Ann, John, Elizabeth and Paul); his nephews Neil and Peter; his god-daughter Catherine; Joy's brother Barry Dent (Lois) and his family; and a large circle of supportive friends. Born and brought up in England, he was commissioned into the Grenadier Guards at Royal Military College, Sandhurst in 1942. His distinguished wartime military career included being wounded in the North Africa campaign, serving in Northwest Europe and being part of the Allied advance through Belgium to Berlin. After the war, he spent several years in the Middle East, including time at the Middle East Centre for Arab Studies. Invited to transfer to the Canadian Armed Forces in 1951, he attended Canadian and U.S. Staff colleges and performed intelligence and U.N. peacekeeping duties. Col. Rogers served as Brigadier Major of an Infantry Brigade Group and as First Commandant of the combined Armed Forces Officer Candidate School. After thirty-one years of challenging military service and a varied civilian career, he and Joy had twenty happy years in Niagara-on-the-Lake. Col. Rogers was a long-time member of the Cavalry and Guards Club and the Albany Club. Special thanks to wonderful caregivers including Dr. Jim Proudfoot, Dr. Sandra Hartman, Vivian Wiens and other Para-Med nurses, C.C.A.C., and staff at Niagara-on-the-Lake Hospital and Princess Margaret Hospital. Col. Rogers is at the NIAGARA-ON-THE-LAKE CHAPEL of the MORGAN FUNERAL HOMES (415 Regent St.) where friends may call on Thursday, June 1, 2000 from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. A funeral service to celebrate his life will be held on Friday, June 2, 2000 at 3 o'clock at St. Mark's Anglican Church (Byron St.). In lieu of flowers, donations to St. Mark's Church for the music fund would be appreciated.
