- Shop now for incredible insights into your wellbeing -SHAW - Mr. Victor Woodrow of Calgary, Alberta, passed away peacefully on June 9, 1997 at the age of 79 years. Vic is survived by his wife Sherry; one daughter Janice; and two sons, Neil and Phillip; three grandchildren, Nesha, Nicole and Allan; and two great-grandchildren, four step-grandchildren, and four step-great-grandchildren. Also survived by sister Shirley Janet. Vic was predeceased by his wife Rosella in 1977. Vic was born November 9, 1918. His many talents and humour brought joy to all his friends and family from woodworking to Guido-guilding, raising birds, motorcycles to oil painting. He has left us all a legacy of passion and zest for life. Vic was a long-standing active member of the Army and Navy Club of Calgary. Victor will be remembered by family and friends as husband, father, grandfather and friend who enriched the lives of everyone he touched. SHEETS - Josiah William Sheets, born September 13, 1909 at Sykeston, North Dakota, passed away October 17, 1997 at the Dr. Vernon Fanning Centre at the age of 88 years. Left to cherish wonderful memories are his wife Vera, married sixty-three years; two sons, Ken (Mary) Sheets, Bruce (Pauline) Sheets; seven grandchildren, five great-grandchildren. Bill is also survived by one sister and many nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his parents, Christopher Columbus and Albina May Sheets, six brothers and four sisters. Bill came to Foremost, Alberta in 1910 by train from Sykeston, ND; moved to Sundre in 1928. Bill married Vera Murray in 1934 and moved to Calgary. From Calgary they moved to Olds and in 1953 moved back to Calgary. Bill worked as a carpenter and retired in 1974. Memorial Services will be held in the Chapel of MOUNTAIN VIEW FUNERAL HOME on Tuesday, October 21, 1997 at 10:00 a.m. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the charity of the donor's choice. SHEILS - Iona Adeline, passed away at the Didsbury District Long Term Care Facility on June 13, 1997. Iona was born on February 10, 1921 in Oyen, Alberta. She attended high school in Cereal and Chinook, then earned her Teaching Certificate from the Calgary Normal School. She moved to Didsbury in 1942 and taught school at Jutland, Midway and Didsbury for twenty-three years. Following her retirement, Iona continued to tutor students and substitute teach for another fifteen years. She felt very fortunate in knowing so many students and considered them as friends whom she did not forget. On October 13, 1944 she married J. Harold Sheils and they operated a mixed farm for many years in the Lone Pine District. During that time she was involved with the Lone Pine Oriole's Womens Girls Club, the Lone Pine Women's Institute and the Lone Pine Oldtimer's Association. One of Iona's proudest accomplishments was holding the office of Honored Royal Lady in the Didsbury Order of the Royal Purple Lodge No. 317 after having joined as a Charter Member. In 1989, she was given an Honorary Life Membership in the Lodge. Iona is survived by her loving daughters, Lorna Evenson of Calgary, Sheryl Taylor (Warren) of Chestermere Lake; one son Delbert Sheils and his wife Jane of Calgary; five grandchildren, James, William, Trevor, Jacqueline and Janice. She is also survived by a brother Ralph Odden of Calgary. Iona was predeceased by her husband Harold in 1992. Services will be held at Knox United Church in Didsbury at 2:00 p.m. on Tuesday, June 17, 1997 with Rev. Malcolm Profitt officiating. Interment to follow at the Didsbury Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to either The Canadian Diabetes Association or The Kidney Foundation of Canada (6/17/1997).
WILSON - Alexander passed away on June 1, 1997 in his seventy-seventh year in Edmonton. He is survived by two sons, Gerald (Anne) of Edmonton, Robert (Muriel) of Winnipeg; and one daughter Devona (Jim) Hrisook of Cranbrook; five grandchildren; two sisters, Mary Osborne and Agnes Tabler of Edmonton; three brothers, Bob, Gavin and Matthew of Calgary. Alex was predeceased by his wife Devona in 1990 and also by two brothers, John and Donald, and two sisters, Helen Cumiford and Hannah Folkard. Funeral Services were held June 4 in Edmonton. Interment to be in Cranbrook June 6 at 2:00 p.m (6/6/1997).
VELEV - Alex Velev, beloved son of Ivan and Maia Velev of Calgary, left us suddenly on Saturday, November 29, 1997, at the age of 17 years. Alex skied out of our lives doing what heloved most, living life simply and fearlessly. His spirit will remain always in the hearts of his parents; his brother Lazar; his grandparents, Lazar and Veska Velev; and his grandmother Rosa Zlatkova of Bulgaria. Alex lived life with and for his friends, and those who are left behind will always remember his smile. VELTRI - It is with great sadness that the family of Costanza Veltri announces her passing at the Peter Lougheed Hospital on October 31, 1997 at the age of 81 years. Nonna will be greatly missed by her son Antonio (Carmella) of White Rock, B.C.; son John of Calgary; daughter Caterina (Angelo), and daughter Maria (Giovanni), also of Calgary; fourteen grandchildren, Francesco, John, Saverio, Daniel, Angelo, Maria, and Antonio Migliarese, Costanza, Saverio, Franco, and Antonio Veltri, Teresa, Cabrina and Giovanna Perri; and nine great-grandchildren. She is also survived by two sisters, Antonietta and Rosina of Italy, and a brother Francesco of France; as well as numerous nieces and nephews. Born in Italy, June 11, 1916, Costanza then met and married Saverio. They and their first two children moved to Canada. They settled and completed their family in Trail, BC. In 1981, they moved to Calgary, Alberta, where they resided. She was predeceased by her loving husband of fifty-two years on June 29, 1986. She will always be remembered for her great love and devotion towards her family. Her strong and unique spirit will forever live in our hearts. VILARDI - Elena (nee Golemme) passed away peacefully at her home in Cavallerizzo, Italy on June 22, 1997 at the age of 86. VILUTIS - Mrs. Ellen Jane (Elsie) Vilutis of Calgary, passed away at her home on October 21, 1997, at the age of 86 years. Elsie is survived by her two sisters, Agnes Gordon of Calgary, and Jean Bateman of Kamloops, BC. She is predeceased by her husband Adolph, two brothers, James and George Mathers, and sister May Breedon.
