OSBORNE - Mrs. Jean Bruce of Qualicum Beach, BC. Passed away at her home on Friday, July 4, 1997. Jean was born at Empress Hospital in eastern Alberta, on December 17, 1926. Jean's parents farmed in the Bindloss area until moving to Cochrane area and then to Stavely where she took the remainder of her schooling. After leaving school, she worked in the London, Ont. area before returning to her beloved Alberta where she found work in oilfield related jobs. There she met her husband George. She traveled to many places in the world with him in his work. Jean was predeceased by her first husband Larry Capstick, and later by her beloved husband Geo. Osborne on December 11, 1981. Also by her father Robert Bruce Young on January 25, 1983 and her mother Marion Bruce Young on December 14, 1996, and one niece Chrystal Booth on June 28, 1986. Jean is survived by her loving son Bruce Capstick and daughter-in-law Dorella and their two daughters, Jacintha and Stacey. She is also survived by her sister Roberta (Pat) Casey; brother Bruce (Helen) Young; sister Alix (Carl) Bondy; brother Bill and friend Joyce, and sister Jocelyn (Howard) Obrand; and numerous nieces and nephews. Jean will also by sadly missed by her adopted friend John Onison, his family, her stepdaughter Terry Osborne and her many friends and neighbors. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to a charity of your choice. A Memorial Service was held in Parksville, British Columbia on Saturday, July 12, 1997. OSTEN - Max Osten passed away peacefully on November 24, 1997. He will be lovingly remembered by his children, Shelly and Alex; his daughter-in-law Linda; his sisters, Esther Loeb and Minnie Emas; his brothers, Robert, Sydney and Alex. He was predeceased by his wife Goldie and his sister Annie. Funeral Services will be held at the Jewish Memorial Chapel (1702 - 17 Avenue S.W.), today, November 25, 1997 at 12:00 noon. OTTAWAY - Lawrence Eric Ottaway. June 3, 1953 - December 25, 1997 It is with the greatest sorrow Katie, Rhys and Megan announce the sudden passing, at home, of our beloved Daddy and husband, Larry, on Christmas Day, 1997. Larry worshipped his wife Megan of twelve years and their two young children. Everything in Larry's life revolved around his family. Larry will be remembered by all as a loving, devoted father and husband. He brightened the lives of many with his jovial wit, laughter and boundless generosity. He will be deeply missed by all his "buddies" here in Calgary and back East. Larry was the loving son of Ann and Clive Ottaway of Hamilton, Ont. A handsome baby boy they would raise into a strong man with a truly unique and generous nature. They were proud to say he was their son. Mom and Dad's loss is severe. He is also survived by his sister Patricia (Rod) who always played the part of mother hen to him and his twin brothers, Robert (Angela) and Richard (Cindy), who on the most part looked up to their big brother. Larry's family is all from the Hamilton area. He was an uncle, playmate and friend to his nieces and nephews, Maggie, Graham, Alun, Lakme and Madeline, and he will be lovingly embraced by Poppa in heaven. Larry was a member of Temple Lodge 6Rc 296 AF & AM with his late father-in-law Bob Jones. A Celebration of Larry's Life for Katie and Rhys will be held in the Chapel of MOUNTAIN VIEW FUNERAL HOME on Friday, January 2, 1998 at 1:00 p.m. In accordance with Larry's wishes, Cremation will follow. Flowers graciously declined, but appreciated by the family would be memorial donations directed to the Heart & Stroke Foundation of Alberta (1825 Park Road S.E., Calgary, AB T2G 3Y6). The family would like to thank the quick response of the Emergency Medical Services here in the city of Calgary. Also, Medical Examiner Pat Brune for her professionalism, comfort and advice. MCDERMID - Katherine (nee Robinson) passed away peacefully at the Foothills Hospital on December 13, 1997, following a brief illness. Born in Melfort, Saskatchewan and raised in Portage La Prairie, Manitoba, Katherine came to Calgary following the completion of her nursing training in Brandon. She was predeceased by her brothers, Arnold and John, who died in the Second World War, by her husband Don in 1979, and by her sisters, Isabel and Margaret. She is survived by her daughter Nancy; son John and daughter-in-law Laurie Allen, all of Calgary; and by her sister Florence of Fort Saskatchewan. Kaye worked for many years at the Associate Clinic following her arrival in Calgary. She was married to Don McDermid in 1952 and later left nursing to raise her family. She returned to work in the early 1970's when the Beverly Nursing Home opened its new facility on 90 Avenue S.W., and later retired as its Director of Nursing in 1983. Funeral Services will be held at JACQUES FUNERAL HOME, 240 - 17 Avenue S.W., Wednesday, December 17, 1997 at 1:00 p.m. Interment to follow at Union Cemetery.
