YOUNG – On Dec. 23, 2004 Mrs. Marjorie Young of Camrose, formerly of Stockport, England passed away at the age of 88 years.
She leaves to cherish her memory, one daughter Carol Ann Cherry of Camrose; four grandchildren Jane (Rene’) Cherry-Lemire of Bawlf, Linda Cherry, Simon (Bernice) Cherry, Becky (Ron) Anderson, all of Camrose; and numerous great-grandchildren. Marjorie was predeceased by her first husband Henry Birchall; second husband David Young; her parents Frank and Janet Edlin; one brother Harold Edlin; sister-in-law Irene and nephew Howard.
A Funeral Service was held Tuesday, Dec. 28 at 2 p.m. at Messiah Lutheran Church in Camrose with Pastor David Eriksson officiating. Memorial contributions are gratefully accepted to a charity of one’s choice.

McCORMICK, John Alexander “Red”
McCORMICK – John Alexander “Red” passed away peacefully on Nov. 3, 2004 at Bethany Long Term Care, Camrose at the age of 88 years. He will be greatly missed by his loving and devoted wife of 62 years, May; son Roy (Caroline) of Toronto; daughters Lynn (Pat) Hannigan of Fort Erie; Penny (Wally) Puzanoski of Calgary; Shelley (Greg) Christie of Kelowna; Karen (Ron) Simpson of Edmonton; grandchildren Ted, Carey, Bill, Taryn, Matthew, Jill, Paul, Cayley, Gregory, Erin, Dillon; great grandchildren Riley, Meaghan, Alexandra, Maxwell, and Brayden. He is also survived by brothers Gillis, Glen and Pat of Saskatchewan; and sister Marion (Taylor) of Vernon, BC. He was predeceased by brothers Bernard (Blackie) and Roderick (Roy).
Red was born in Wappella, SK on Feb. 13, 1916 to Donald and Sarah McCormick. Enjoying all sports, he was an avid hunter, fisherman and excelled at golf. In his youth he caddied at the Willowdale Golf Club and won the caddy’s tournament several times, and later going on to become the club professional.
During WWII he served as military police with the rank Lance Corporal in Scotland, England and Holland, for which he received several medals and commendations. In 1945 he returned to his wife and young daughter, and to the links where he was a recognized amateur, professional, and a consistent top finisher in many tournaments at the provincial level in Alberta and Saskatchewan. Red was a member of the 1946 Saskatchewan Willington Cup Team and participated in the Canadian Amateur Championships. He was employed for many years with Swift, Planters, Pepsi and Harvey Woods.
In 1964 the family, now blessed with five children, moved to Camrose, AB as owners of TipTop Men’s Shop which was a thriving success until retirement in 1985. An avid community volunteer, Red’s leadership qualities were evident as president of the Lions Club, the Chamber of Commerce and the Camrose Golf Club. He was an active member of the Canadian Legion for 42 years. Continuing with his love of golf, he won the Camrose club championship several times and was made a lifetime member. He won the Legion regional championship several times; the trophy was retired and presented to him. He will be greatly missed by all who knew him.
Funeral Mass at St. Francis Xavier Roman Catholic Church on Tuesday, Nov. 9 at 11 a.m. Cremation will follow the service. Memorial donations may be made to the charity of one’s choice.
The family sincerely appreciates and wishes to thank Red’s caregivers at Bethany and St. Mary’s Hospital for their compassion and affection.

Mrs. Anna Marion Gladys Mickeal
MICKEAL – Mrs. Anna Marion Gladys Mickeal of Camrose passed away on Saturday, Oct. 30, 2004 at the age of 83 years.
She is survived by one son Jim of Ottawa; brother David Hagen and sister Phyllis Hagen, both of the United States; and a number of relatives in Norway. Anna was predeceased by her husband, her parents and friend Dick Loney.
Funeral Services were held on Tuesday, Nov. 2 at 10 a.m. from the Camrose United Church with Rev. Mary Ann Pastuck officiating. Interment followed in the Camrose Cemetery.
Memorial donations are gratefully accepted to the Alzheimer Society or to a charity of one’s choice.

Ronald William Reginald Blackie “Blackie”
BLACKIE - Ronald William Reginald “Blackie” was born Feb. 6, 1934 in Halifax, N.S. He was raised by Jean and Eldon Shipely on a farm in Amherst, N.S. Ron’s life was spent farming, which he really enjoyed.
In 1989 Ron met Nova and this relationship blossomed into marriage in 1996. Ron’s life evolved around his family, grandchildren and friends.
Ron passed away Nov. 5, 2004.
He is survived by his loving wife Nova; children Kim Blackie of Edmonton, Dale Blackie of Calgary, Lori-Ann (Kris) Jacobsen of Wainwright, Dan (Wendy) Blackie of Wainwright, Ruby (John) Venema of Sedgewick, Marion (Scott) O’Neil of Camrose and Doug (Melissa) Ferguson of Killam; eight grandchildren and brother Eldon Strong of Amherst, N.S. Ron will be missed by all. Heaven’s gain is our loss.
Funeral Services were held on Wednesday, Nov. 10 at 11 a.m. from the Burgar Memorial Chapel with Pastor Collin Hauck officiating. Memorial donations are gratefully accepted to the Canadian Diabetes Association, the CNIB or to a charity of one’s choice.

Clarence Frank Vos
VOS – Clarence Frank Vos was born on April 24, 1916 and passed away on Oct. 31, 2004 at the age of 88 years surround by his loving family. He was the fourth child of Reinard and Ida Vos.
He met and married Henrietta Sunderman on Aug. 6, 1940. From this union 11 children were born; Eileen (John), Gerald (Lynn), Alvin (Janice), Judy (Grant), Dennis (Judy), Gilbert (Kaireen), Jeanette (Harvey), Nancy (Rodney), Pat (Doug), Joanne (Harold) and Sherry (Bruce). He is also survived by 20 grandchildren, 13 great grandchildren, one brother and six sisters.
Clarence loved life, He enjoyed farming, a good card game, music, dancing and all sports. He was a lifetime members of the Elks and Knights of Columbus.
Clarence was a kind and gentle man who was devout in his faith and devoted to his family. He will be sadly missed by everyone who knew and loved him. We are all thankful for the time we shared with him.
Prayer Services were held on Thursday, Nov. 4 at 6:30 p.m. from Our Lady of the Prairies Roman Catholic Church, Daysland. Mass of Christian Burial was celebrated on Friday, Nov. 5 at 11 a.m. from Our Lady of the Prairies Roman Catholic Church with Rev. Larry Pederson as Celebrant. Interment followed in the Daysland Cemetery.

Mr. Fred Pointkoski
POINTKOSKI – On Wednesday, Nov. 24, 2004 Mr. Fred Pointkoski, aged 86 years, of Edmonton, formerly of the Ohaton district, passed away peacefully with his family by his side. He is survived by his wife Mabel, two daughters Dianna (Orest) Spychka of Edmonton, Arlene (Nick) Kakoulakis of Athens, Greece; two sons Duane (Paulette) of Sherwood Park, Randy (Myrna) of Ohaton; his loving grandchildren George, Alex, and Fotis Kakoulakis, Nicole (Greg) Kureluk, Chad (Julia) Pointkoski, Jocelyn Pointkoski, Jolene and Tasha Spychka; as well as three sisters and two brothers Eddy (Mary), Joe (Sophie), Helen (Stan) Kosinski, Bernice Nedohin, and Margaret Nahirniak. Fred was predeceased by his brothers Clarence, Johnny, and Walter and his sisters Florence and Julia. A Prayer Service was held Friday, Nov. 26 at 6:30 pm at St. Michael’s Extended Care Centre, Edmonton. Mass of Christian Burial was celebrated Saturday, Nov. 27 at 2:00 pm from St. Francis Xavier Roman Catholic Church, Camrose with Rev. Eduardo Escobar as celebrant. Interment followed in the Camrose Cemetery.

HERRIDGE – Reg passed away peacefully at his home on Sunday morning October 26, 2003 at the age of 98 years. Survived by his only son Dr. Peter Herridge and his wife Margaret of Kelowna, two daughters Juliet and Sarah and one brother Len of England. HAIGHT – Florence Louise passed away on Sunday October 19, 2003 at the age of 83 years. Predeceased by her husband Jack in 1988. Survived by her daughter Cathie (Len) Remesz of Drayton Valley, AB, three sons: Brian (Dawn) of Abbotsford, BC, Cameron (Linda) of Smith Falls, ON, and Randy of Cobble Hill, BC, one sister Helen Conger, eight grandchildren, two great grandchildren and a very large extended family.
