SCHLOSS – Ann Schloss, longtime resident of Camrose, passed away peacefully on Nov. 28, 2004.
She and her late husband Al had a loving marriage of 68 years before his passing in 1998. Ann was a devoted and loving wife, mother, grandmother and friend. She worked closely with her husband in business at Lawrence’s Dept. Store, Camrose, and was active in numerous community endeavours.
Ann is survived by her children Sondra of Vancouver, Eric (Elexis) and Barry (Maureen) of Edmonton; grandchildren John (Koa), Jane, Robin, Jody, Jay, (Lauren), Michael, Daniel and Gillian; and two sisters Eleanore Hayman of Philadelphia and Barbara Severin of Bismarck, N.D.
The family would like to thank the staff of the Devonshire Care Centre for their care and attention and we extend deep appreciation to Ann’s devoted caregivers, Ronabelle, Nestor, Cecilia, Ellen and Brenda.
Funeral services were held at the Chesed Shel Emes on Wednesday, Dec. 1 at 1pm, 12313-105 Ave., Edmonton.
In lieu of flower tributes donations may be made to charities of one’s choice.
Jack McIntosh
McINTOSH – On Dec. 7, 2004 Jack McIntosh of Edmonton passed away at the age of 82 years. He is survived by his loving wife Nan; his children Dr. John McIntosh (Dr. Pat McIntosh) of Arizona, Jean Orchuk (Wayne) of Edmonton, Hugh McIntosh (Katherine) of Toronto; six grandchildren Steven, Travis, Kelsey, Jeffrey McIntosh, Kelly and Sean Orchuk; his brother Nicol McIntosh (Della) of Calgary; favourite brother-in-law Frank Ferguson; numerous nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by two sisters, Betty and Lotte.

Anton “Tony” Gartner
GARTNER – On Dec. 6, 2004 Anton “Tony” Gartner of Camrose, formerly of Daysland, passed away at the age of 74 years. He is survived by his loving wife Josie; their family Rita (Berle) Radchenko of Daysland, Gwen Gartner (Gord Bogstie) of Calgary, Gary of Daysland, Mary Kay (Bernie) Pyra of Whitby, Ont., Theresa (Francis) Joosten of Olds, Joe of Chilliwack, B.C., Monica (Philip) Berube of Beaumont, Sheri (Barry) Willson of Devon; 35 grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; two brothers Rev. Len Gartner of Edmonton and Donald (Celine) of Calgary; two sisters Angie Lang Thirsk of Camrose and Alvina (Rudy) Bruha of Stony Plain. Tony was predeceased by his son Ron; one grandson Nicholas Joosten; two brothers Pete and Adam; and one sister Katie.
A Prayer Service was held Thursday, Dec. 9 at 7:30 pm at Our Lady of the Prairies Roman Catholic Church, Daysland. Mass of Christian Burial was celebrated Friday, Dec. 10 at 11 am at Our Lady of the Prairies Roman Catholic Church with Rev. Len Gartner as celebrant. Interment followed in the Daysland Cemetery.
Memorial donations are gratefully accepted to the Alberta Heart and Stroke Foundation or the Canadian Diabetes Association.

Otto Gauss Sr.
GAUSS – It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Otto Gauss Sr. on Dec. 9, 2004 in the Vernon Jubilee Hospital at the age of 80 years.
He will be remembered with love by his wife Therese, to whom he was married for 58 years; his daughters Hanni (Herbert) Schmid of Burghausen, Germany and Heidi (Ken) Lindberg of Camrose; his son Otto (Maija) Gauss of Coldstream, B.C.; his grandchildren Simone (Stefan) Muller of Germany, Bernhard Schmid of Burghausen, Germany; Tracy (Barry) Wolokoff of Airdrie, Paula (Cory) Gagnon of Sedgewick, Kellie Gauss of Munich, Germany; Michael (Nicole) Gauss of Burnaby, B.C.; and his great grandsons Jonas Muller, Jarrett and Matthew Wolokoff, Josh and Brett Gagnon and Malachi Gauss. He will also be greatly missed by is sisters Elvira Koehler and Mildred (Albert) Sellin, both of Camrose.
Otto was born in Neukron, Germany on May 20, 1924, He and is young family immigrated from Germany in 1952 and made their home in Camrose. There he had a very successful cabinet making business and raised his family. In 1974 Otto and Therese retired to Lavington in the beautiful Coldstream Valley.
A Memorial Service was held at St. John’s Lutheran Church on Monday, Dec. 13 with Pastor Roy White officiating.
Dr. Ward Allan Steckle
STECKLE - It is with a deep sense of loss that the family of Dr. Ward Allan Steckle, a longtime Alberta educator and sportsman, announce his passing on October 24, 1997 at the age of 93 years. Ward is survived by his loving children, daughter Wilma (Terry) Kassian of Edmonton; and Wilma's children, Rob, Wayne (Shelley), and Carol (Les), and his son Bob (Jane) Steckle of Calgary; and Bob's children, Heidi (Cameron), Anna (Scott), and Ward (Jennifer) and their mother Kay. Ward is also survived by four great-grandchildren, Carrie, Shawn, Alicia and Cooper; one sister Norma Davidson of Richmond, B.C.; and a sister-in-law Grace Hume of Edmonton; as well as nieces, nephews, and many friends. Ward was predeceased by his beloved wife of sixty-eight years, Alberta, in September 1994, and by his sister Hilda and an infant brother Floyd. Ward was born December 30, 1903, in Carstairs, Alberta. His parents, Norman and Emma moved to Edmonton where Ward began his schooling, graduating from Edmonton Normal School in 1923. His post-graduate degrees were obtained from Brigham Young University in Provo, Utah and the University of Washington in Seattle. A promoter of education, physical fitness, community service and the welfare of others, Ward was an educator of forty-seven years in rural Alberta and Calgary schools. While principal of Western Canada High School, he was the recipient of an Honorary Doctorate from the University of Calgary. He was also names "Sportsman of the Year", by the Calgary Booster Club. Prior to Ward's tenure as principal of Western, he was the city athletic director for public schools. In 1961, he was elected a Fellow of the Royal Society of the Encouragement of Arts, Manufactures and Commerce, London, Duke of Edinburgh award. He served two terms on the University of Alberta Senate as well as two terms on the Board of Governors of Mount Royal College. An avid golfer, he served on the executive of Earl Grey Golf Club and was a member of the Glencoe Club, the Rotary Club and the Calgary Stampeders' football games. Please join the family as we commemorate Ward's life at a Memorial Service to be held at Western Canada High School, (641 - 17 Avenue S.W.) on Saturday, November 1, 1997 at 2:00 p.m. If friends so desire, memorial tributes may be made directly to the Ward Steckle Scholarship Fund, c/o Western Canada High School, (641 - 17 Avenue S.W., T2S 0B5). James (Jim) Carl Gabourie
GABOURIE – On Dec. 9, 2004 James (Jim) Carl Gabourie of Edmonton, formerly of Ohaton, passed away at the age of 56 years after a brief battle with cancer.
Jim is survived by his son Ryan; sister Faye (Ben) Wilhauk of Calmar; special friend Phyllis; as well as numerous relatives.
Cremation has taken place. A private family service will be held later. Special thanks to the nursing staff of Station 22 and 23 at the Leduc Community Hospital.

Lawson James Whitefish
WHITEFISH – Lawson James Whitefish of Vernon, B.C., formerly of Camrose, passed away at Vernon on Dec. 19, 2004 at the age of 44 years.
He is survived by his mother Elizabeth; six brothers Benjamin, Clarence, Sam, Robert, Roger (Gayleen) and Cecil (Deanne); two sisters Christine (Miles) and Marie (Rick) Williams; nieces and nephews, relatives and friends. He was predeceased by his father Phillip; one sister June; and one brother Rick.
Prayer Vigil will be at 7 p.m. Monday, Dec. 27 at Weber’s Mount Pleasant Chapel. Mass of Christian Burial will be at 1 p.m. Tuesday, Dec. 28 at St. Francis Xavier Roman Catholic Church. Cremation will follow the service.
Memorial donations may be made to the Heart Fund or the Canadian Cancer Society.

On Dec. 23, 2004 Tracy Borup (age 34) of Mirror and her children Brett (age 8) and Brook (age 7) died as the result of a motor vehicle accident. Their family include: Tracy’s loving fiancé (Brett & Brook’s step-dad) Mike McLeod; Tracy’s mom (Brett & Brook’s grandmother) Marcia Borup & Don; Tracy’s dad (Brett & Brook’s grandfather) Edward Borup; Tracy’s brothers & sisters (Brett & Brook’s uncle & aunts) Jody & Merrill, Tiffany, Jessica & Mark, Randell and Denise; Brett & Brook’s father Richard; Brett & Brook’s grandparents Gordon & Kim and Faye; Brett & Brook’s uncles & aunts Everett (godfather) & Michelle and their son Zach, Penny and family and Sheldon; Brett & Brook’s godmother Ange; as well as many other relatives.
