Sylvia Theodora (Stromstad) Edstrom

Sylvia Theodora (Stromstad) Edstrom
Sylvia Edstrom was born on July 24, 1913 in Curlew, AB and passed away in Bashaw, AB on April 18, 2006. She will be lovingly remembered by her daughter Sharon (Bill) Avison; grandsons Allan (Tricia) Avison and daughter Sarah Lynn; Bryan (Gina) Avison and their children Kayla, Craig and Cole; granddaughter Candice and her children Chalynn, Sharlee and Payton; nieces Gwen Lewis and her children Brenda (Greg) Harter and children Grayson and Jessie; Teresa Lewis; Ivan Lewis and children Jordan, Justin, Amanda and Sheldon; Wendy (Carsten) Jorgensen and children Kiara and Trenton; Cathy Lewis; Marlene (Jim) Crawford and children Travis and Tanya; Millent (Ed) Foelker and children Anna Marie and Rosie and their families; Rosette Rule and family; nephews Don (Joan) Blair and children Eric (Michelle) Blair and Karen Blair; Doug (Gloria) Lundstrom and children Rob (Reana) and Todd (Lori); Leroy (Gloria) Dahl and family; as well as numerous friends. Sylvia was predeceased by her parents Mikkal and Kjersti Stromstad, her husband Elmer Edstrom, her sister Esther Blair and brother-in-law George Blair, her sister-in-law Judith Dahl and brother-in-law Bert Dahl, and her brother Ralph Stromstad.

Arne Johnson

JOHNSON – Arne Johnson was born Feb. 8, 1914 in Morris, Illinois, the only child of John and Marie Johnson. In 1920 the family, together with Severt and Sarah Ness and their children, immigrated to Canada and settled east of Camrose.
Arne developed an interest in music and became an accomplished violinist. He enjoyed classical music and performed a radio concert for CBC as a young man. Arne did not limit his violin repertoire to classical music. He also enjoyed playing with a band at dances in the community.
Arne was active in the community, serving on various committees and boards, including the St. Mary’s Hospital Board. His greatest involvement, however, was with the Alberta Wheat Pool, where he served as a delegate from 1942 to 1963 and as a director from 1963 to 1975. During his tenure as a director with the Wheat Pool, Arne traveled across Canada to various meetings and conferences. It was also during that time that he studied business management at the Banff School of Management.
Arne married Betty Robertson in November of 1947 and together they operated a dairy and grain farm two miles east of Camrose. Betty passed away in April of 1980, but Arne continued to live on the farm until the fall of 2004.
Arne passed away Jan. 21, 2006 at the Louise Jensen Care Centre of The Bethany Group in Camrose. He is survived by his daughter Yvonne (Gordon) Myrehaug, and son Randy Johnson (Gayle Redekopp). He is also survived by five grandchildren, Danielle and Paul Myrehaug, Carla Lafferty, Cory and Carrie Johnson; and two great grandchildren, Boston and Savanna Lafferty.
Arne will be deeply missed and remembered with love by his family and friends. He lived his life with dignity and his memory will be cherished by all who knew him.
The family wishes to express gratitude to Thelma Tollefson and Walter Kerr, whose concern and caring for Dad’s well being were a comfort for us when we were out of town. We also wish to express our thanks to the staff at the Louise Jensen Care Centre who cared for Dad lovingly in his last days.
Funeral services for Arne were held on Saturday, Jan. 28 at 10:30 a.m. from Messiah Lutheran Church with Rev. David Ericksson officiating. Interment followed at the Camrose Cemetery.
Memorial donations are gratefully accepted to Messiah Lutheran Church or the Heart and Stroke Foundation.

Mr. Bernard “Ben” William Cole

COLE – Mr. Bernard “Ben” William Cole of Edberg passed away suddenly on Sunday Feb. 5, 2006 at the age of 60 years.
Left to cherish Ben’s memory are his loving wife Karen; two daughters Carrie Cole of New Norway, Alaina Cole of Edberg; son Bill of Edberg; and four grandchildren Chelsea, Chad, Ryan and Brett. Ben is also survived by his brother Larry (Reva) of Calgary; in-laws Diane (Doug) Berg of Camrose, Bev (Mike) Winsor of Edmonton; and a host of nieces, nephews and surrogate grandchildren. Ben was predeceased by his parents, two sisters Diane Tinnis and Darlene Schmitke.
Funeral Services were held on Friday, Feb. 10 at 1 p.m. from Messiah Lutheran Church with Rev. Ken Grambo officiating. Interment followed in Edberg Lakeview Cemetery.
If friends so desire memorial contributions are gratefully accepted to STARS or to the charity of your choice.

Chester Grue

GRUE – Chester Grue went to be with the Lord on Tuesday, April 18, 2006 at the age of 89 and a half years. He is survived by is loving family of three daughters Yvonne Grue (Paul Lee) of Port Moody, B.C., Corrine Aicken (Dennis) of Calgary, Lenore Shepherd (Gordon) of Westbank; son Bruce of Maple Ridge, B.C.; seven grandchildren Ariel and Isabelle Grue Lee, Jonathan (Marina) Aicken, Avey (Mark) Christiansen, Heather Aicken, Simon and Daniel Shepherd; two brothers Norman (Leila) of Sherwood Park, Wallace (Judy) of Kelowna; two sisters Amy Thomas of White Rock, BC, Isabelle Sherwin (Robert) of Abbotsford, B.C; and nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his wife Nan; brother Oliver; and sisters Gladys and Velma,
A Funeral Service was held on Saturday, April 22 at 1 p.m. at Mt. Calvary Lutheran Church, 32420-7 Ave., Mission, B.C. with Rev. Dennis Aicken officiating. Interment took place in the Hatzic Cemetery.
Should family and friends so desire memorial donations may be made to the Canadian Cancer Society or the Canadian Lutheran Bible Institute, 4827-52A St., Camrose, AB T4V 1W5.

Reinhard Rudolph Schultz

SCHULTZ – Reinhard Rudolph Schultz was born on the family farm 10 miles west and north of Bashaw known as the Dutch Flats on March 3, 1914 and passed away peacefully at the Bashaw Care Center on Easter Monday, April 17, 2006. He was number three of 10 children, having five brothers and four sisters. At the age of five he moved with his family to a new farm just one mile north of Bashaw where they built a house in 1922 and remained on that farm until his retirement. As the oldest son at home at the time of his father’s death in 1931, Reinhard took over the responsibilities and cared for his mother and younger siblings until his marriage to Olga Hauser in 1936. Grandma turned over the farm to him and the newlyweds started paying it off. They moved into town in 1985. He was a pioneer serving on the Zion Lutheran Church council for many years, supporting the ice curling, the Happy Gang Center and contributing to the community in many ways. Reading history books, attending auctions, playing darts, shuffleboard, ice and floor curling, crib and whist games were his hobbies. He will always be remembered for his gentle manner and witty sense of humor and will be greatly missed by his five children : Helen Bell of Calgary, Della (Trevor) Thomas of Bashaw, Norman (Dianne) of Bashaw, Carol Hackett of Calgary, Lila (Colin) Eicher of Edmonton; nine grandchildren Brenda (Garnet) of Lacombe, Bradley of Calgary, Debbie (Tony) of Surrey, Terry (Jodi) of Langdon, Randy (Cheronne) of Bashaw, Aaron of Edmonton, Rob (Sherry) of Red Deer, Sandy (Chad) of Meadow Lake and Scott of Red Deer; three great granddaughters, 10 great grandsons, two sisters Adeline Baron of Stony Plain and Ella Tibble of Edmonton and one Uncle Eldor of Lamont who is 101 years young. Reinhard was predeceased by his loving wife Olga of 69 years in February 2006, two sons-in-law Stu Bell and Stuart Hackett, brothers Leonard, Eldor, Edwin, Tony, infant Adolph and sisters Hilda, infant Elenora. Funeral service was held at Bashaw Zion Lutheran Church on April 21 with Pastor Monica Denk officiating. Memorial donations are accepted to the Alzheimer’s Foundation, St. Peter’s Cemetery Fund or a charity of your choice.

SHIRLEY MARGARET WHITBY
December 3, 1936 – April 19, 2006

It is with great sadness we announce that our treasured wife and mother passed away April 19, 2006 after a courageous battle with cancer at the age of 69 years.
She will be lovingly remembered by her husband of 48 years William “Bill”; daughter Patti Jo (Don); grandchildren Jennifer and Steven; her sister Deanna (Ed); and brother James (Annette); as well as numerous cherished relatives and friends.
Shirley will be forever remembered for her unwavering optimism, her love of life and her absolute joy when spending time with her grandchildren. She was predeceased by her son Russell in 1973.
Our heartfelt thanks go to Dr. Allan McDonald and the nursing staff of Unit 18 at the St. Albert Sturgeon Hospital.
The family invites friends and relatives to join them for a reception at the Masonic Hall (5021-48 St.) in Camrose at 12 noon on Thursday, April 27.

Oscar (John William) Dochniak

DOCHNIAK – Oscar (John William) Dochniak passed away peacefully on Monday, April 17, 2006 surrounded by loved ones at St. Paul’s Palliative Care in Saskatoon at the age of 53. John was born in Edmonton on Aug. 22, 1952 to Alice and John Dochniak. He grew up in Round Hill, and spent most of his adult life in Snow Lake, Man. He is survived by his wife Debbie; sons Cory (Shanna) Denver and Marlee, Jason (Michelle) Skyler of Edmonton and Brice of Prince Albert; brothers-in-law Mike Anaka of Snow Lake, Arvid Degerness (Trish) of Nipawin, Bryne Degerness of Nipawin (Charlotte) and Kelly Degerness of Edmonton; sisters-in-law, Donna Warden (Stan) of Nashville and Karen Craswell (Gerry) of Pilot Butte; father and mother-in-law, Albert and Vi Degerness; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Oscar was predeceased by his parents Alice and John Dochniak; and sisters Rose Dochniak and Darlene Anaka. Mass of Christian Burial was celebrated on Saturday, April 22 at 11 a.m. from St. Stanislaus Roman Catholic Church, Round Hill with Rev. Father Eduardo Escober as celebrant.

Erwin Paul Wagner

WAGNER – Erwin Paul Wagner was born on Sept. 22, 1907 in Ohaton, AB. Raised in Ohaton he attended Hartland School and later attended Tech School in Saskatchewan where he studied mechanics, Erwin always worked hard at whatever he did, whether it was plowing fire guards, farming or his lifelong passion of driving truck.
He married Berneice Saby in 1933 and born to this union was a son Johnnie and a daughter Marjorie, At this time he was working at the coal mine and living in Round Hill. Soon after he started his own trucking company, which had many successful years. He later moved to Camrose and retired.
In 1989 Erwin moved to Daysland where he married Mary Aschenmeier in 1993. It was here that he found a new passion for potato gardening. He loved visiting and reminiscing with family and friends. His stories left you wanting to hear more. Gatherings were filled with great love and laughter and his zest of life was inspiring. He was a loving man who always put the needs of others first.
On Jan. 30, 2006 at the age of 98, Erwin peacefully passed away at St. Mary’s Hospital.
He is survived by his loving wife Mary; his daughter Marjorie (Wayne); sister Dorie (Ormand); Johnnie’s children Cindy, Randy, Darwin and spouses; Marjorie’s children Merlin, Gary, Brenda, Trevor, Tammy and spouses; Mary’s six children and spouses; 22 grandchildren; 12 great grandchildren; five great great grandchildren; a very dear person Carol Curry; numerous nieces and nephews; and a host of friends and relatives.
Erwin was predeceased by his first wife Berneice, son Johnnie and grandson Darcy.
Funeral services for Erwin were held on Friday, Feb. 3 at 11 a.m. from Messiah Lutheran Church with Rev. Brian Hunter of St. Mary’s Hospital Pastoral Care officiating. Interment followed at the Parkland Cemetery.
Memorial donations are gratefully accepted to the St. Mary’s Hospital CT Scanner Fund or the charity of one’s choice.
