James Ellis Reece
REECE – James Ellis Reece was born on April 5, 1933 and passed away on April 24, 2004 in Camrose after a seven month uphill battle for life. Through it all his sense of humour kept him and his family strong. Jim was born in Wetaskiwin and was raised on the family farm which he eventually took over. All four of his children were born there. In 1967 he moved to Ponoka and then on to Camrose where he resided until his passing. The farm was never far from Jim’s mind or his heart. After he retired, he and Peggy spent all their free time touring the countryside visiting family and friends. Peggy learned early that when Jim said “let’s go for a drive” she had better pack a big lunch and maybe even an overnight bag. Jim made friends wherever he went with his great sense of humour and his love of small children, which he thankfully passed on to each of his own children. He always saw the best in everyone and made the best of every situation and he displayed this during the last seven months at the hospital. This is what he had to say about the nurses: “What 70-year-old man wouldn’t want young women waiting on him hand and foot?”; and about the feeding tube: “Steak for breakfast, lunch and supper”; and about the leg amputation; “A pair of socks will last twice as long”. No matter what the set back, there was always some humour to come out of it. He was always thankful for every visit. He also worried about the road and weather conditions when anyone was traveling to see him. He only asked and expected one thing from each of us: from Peggy... just to hold his hand; from Leanne... take care of his dear Peggy; from Garry... be ready to talk about farming, hunting and fishing; and his biggest request was from Brian... a darn good argument about anything and everything. Jim leaves to mourn his passing his companion and best friend Peggy Sinclair of Camrose; one daughter Leanne (Ken) Hvamb of Ponoka; two sons Garry (Laurie) and Brian of Ponoka; 5 granddaughters Kelly (Steve) Budd, Vickie Hvamb and Danielle Reece of Ponoka and Brandi and Keera Reece of Red Deer; one grandson Clay of Ponoka; 4 great-grandchildren: Todd, Brooklyn, Ethan and Jayce; two sisters Jewel Erickson and Donna Orr of Camrose; six nieces and nephews and numerous friends. He was predeceased by his youngest son Darren in 1987, his parents Ernie and Elsie, one sister Joan and one brother Herb. Jim was laid to rest on April 28, 2004 at a Graveside Service in the Calvary Lutheran Church Cemetery which is right beside his beloved family farm. Memorial donations may be made to the Bashaw Health Centre Long Term Care.
