Violet Allen, of Grande Prairie
VIOLET GORDEN ALLEN, 91, of Grande Prairie, Alberta. Surrounded by her loving family, Violet Gorden Allen passed peacefully away on March 1, 2004 at Mackenzie Place in Grande Prairie, Alberta. Violet was born in Fort Garry, Manitoba in 1913 to Jean Tocher and Rodney Forsythe. Her young years were spent in the Edmonton area. She met and married Slim (Thomas) Allen in 1939, while they were both working at the Beaver Camp Ranch in Stavely, Alberta. While Slim was overseas, serving his country during WWII, she resided in Gibbons, Alberta where she raised their three sons. On Slims return home in 1945, they moved to a farm near Berwyn, Alberta. Here were born two more daughters. Violet was predeceased by her parents, one grandson and her sister Margret Atkison. She is survived by her husband Slim Allen, her sons Norman (Ella) Allen of Berwyn, Robert (Lois) Allen of Berwyn, Ernie (Sandra) Allen of Westlock, her daughters Shirley (Pat) Gorman of Grande Prairie and Mary Allen of Grande Prairie. Her life lives on in her 4 grandchildren, 23 great grandchildren, many nieces and nephews, and her extended family. Her remaining siblings are Laura Crawford of Camrose, Charlie (Janette) of Berwyn and Jim Crawford of Gibbons. She will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved her. She dearly loved all her family. Slim and Violet resided in the Grande Prairie area for the past 20 years. Mom was a renowned homemaker and one of her great joys was baking and preparing meals for anyone who dropped by. Being surrounded by her family was a joy to her. Her other great love of gardening. She seemed to always be able to take a patch of soil and turn it into a beautiful and fruitful garden, where she spent hours enjoying her flowers, and picking vegetables for preserving. She passed on her love of animals, cooking and gardening to many of her family. Even into her descent into Alzheimers, she gave such joy and cheer to those who visited her in Mackenzie Place, and we will always remember her smile and hugs. The love, devotion, and almost daily visits from her greatest love, Slim, kept a sparkle in her eyes, until almost the end of her days on earth. On March 1, 2004, God called another angel home to live in his heavenly garden. Violet’s life will be celebrated on Friday, March 5, 2004 at 2:00 P.M. from Oliver’s Grande Prairie Funeral Chapel (10005-107 Ave.) Grande Prairie with Rev. Vern Begalke officiating. Memorial donations may be made to the Mackenzie Place Palliative care or Peace Area Riding for the Disabled (PARDS) in Grande Prairie. Oliver’s Grande Prairie Funeral Chapel & Crematorium 10005-107 Ave. Grande Prairie, Alberta T8V-1L8 (780)532-2929. Since 1915, a dedicated service.
