With human sadness but spiritual peace and joy, we announce that our wife, mother and grandmother has entered a different part of God's presence, at the age of 64. She died peacefully at home with all her family helping her with her journey. Her compassion and spirit remained strong despite her cancer. She leaves Alexander, her loving and devoted husband of forty-five years; and her six children, Sister Ruth u.j., Joanne (Dan) Mercier, Michael (Sharon), Eric (Chris), Carolyn (Robert) Mercier, Tom (Teresa); and fourteen grandchildren who held a special place in her heart. She also leaves her brothers, Donald (Betty) Ehman, and Lyle (Gerri) Ehman; and many cherished relatives and friends. She was predeceased by her parents, Michael and Margaret Ehman. She gently but profoundly affected and inspired those who knew her. Every day of her life, she accomplished the mission of service that she believed God had given her. BISHOP -- Marie Bishop of Calgary, passed away after a lengthy illness, on November 26, 1997 at the age of 52 years. Marie is survived by her loving husband Michael and son Stephen. BROADBERRY -- Edna Lillian Broadberry, passed away quietly at the Overlander Extended Care Hospital in Kamloops on Friday, November 21, 1997, at the age of 89 years. Predeceased by her husband Walter Hugh Broadberry on April 19, 1992, she is survived by her son Jonathan Hugh Broadberry; and two grandchildren, Christopher Hugh and Ann Elizabeth. Born in Birmingham, England, Edna came to Calgary, Alberta in 1924. She worked there as a stenographer in the Supervisors' Department of the Royal Bank until her marriage to Hugh in 1940. They were active together in Calgary society and in Christ Church, Anglican, for many years. After Hugh's death she moved to Kamloops to be close to her family and escape the long winters. In her younger years, Edna enjoyed travel and regularly visited England with Hugh. Dancing was a lifelong pleasure and as recently as last year she still loved to dance and listen to a variety of music. She understood the importance of the simple things in life, quiet walks and good books. Edna embodied the grace of earlier eras in her manners and her outlook on life. An accomplished conversationalist, she enjoyed the company of friends and the practice of gentility. She lived her life by her personal motto: "Only the best is good enough". She will be lovingly remembered and missed by all who knew her. BRUNO -- Giuseppe (Peppe) Bruno, beloved husband of Rosaria of Bridgeland, Calgary, passed away at the Foothills Hospital on November 27, 1997 at the age of 73 after a brief illness. Giuseppe was born February 4, 1924 in Domanico, Cosenza, Italy. He was a veteran of World War II and fought as a Partisan. Giuseppe married Rosaria on February 28, 1943 and resided in France for a short time before immigrating to Canada in 1951, settling in Port Arthur, Ontario. He was employed as a labourer on an "Extra Gang" by the CNR and later as a lumberjack in Northern Ontario. Giuseppe moved to Calgary in 1953, his wife and children joined him in 1960. He was employed by the City of Calgary as a construction foreman until his retirement in 1985, when he was then able to pursue his hobby of gardening. Besides his loving wife Rosaria, Giuseppe is survived by his son Franco of Calgary, and his son Giovanni, his daughter-in-law Giovanna, and his grandchildren, Tania, Deanna and Adrian of Richmond Hill. He is survived by his sister Maria of Italy; his sister-in-law Giovannina of Calgary; and by many nieces and nephews. Giuseppe was predeceased by his brothers, Santo, Mariano, Antonio and Luigi. COLVIN -- Mr. James Dixon Notman (Jim) Colvin passed away at the Foothills Hospital on Thursday, November 27, 1997 after a brief battle with cancer. He was in his 87th year. Jim was a loving devoted husband, father and grandfather. We are thankful for a multitude of wonderful memories. He was predeceased by his beloved wife May (April 1991), and his brothers, Bill (1994), and John (1997). Jim will be lovingly remembered by his children, a daughter and son-in-law, Pat and her husband Bob Jewell; two sons and daughters-in-law, Ron and his wife Sharon, Ken and his wife Wendy. He will be deeply missed by his eight grandchildren, Jennifer Cheng (Shi-Jen), Joanna and Matthew; Laurie Kangas (Glenn), Jeffrey and Keri (fiance Rob Tychkowsky), Nathan and Niki; and one great-grandchild Vivian Cheng. Jim was born near Glasgow, Scotland on September 9, 1911. He came to Calgary in 1920. Jim married his beloved May in 1939, after a ten year courtship and they enjoyed fifty-two years of married life until May's death in 1991. Jim began his distinguished and respected sales career with Obsco Beauty Supply in 1939. He later purchased the Calgary branch and to this day it is a thriving family business. He remained an active member of the Allied Beauty Association throughout his career. Jim loved music and enjoyed singing with many church choirs and choral organizations, including Excelsior Glee Club, Men's Chorus and Confederation Park Seniors Choir. He and his family were a vital part of North Hill (Rosedale) United Church for many years. Jim was appreciated for his love of life, a genuine interest in people and his wonderful sense of humour. He will be fondly remembered by all who have known him. COTE -- Pierre E. Cote died surrounded by his family in Calgary on Thursday, November 27, 1997 at the age of 83 years. Born on August 12, 1914 in Edmonton, he is survived by his wife and best friend, Simone Langlais of Quebec City; his daughters, Elaine, Lucile, and Michele; their families, Andre, Manuel, and Sebastien Petitat of Geneva, Marie and Felix Deconinck of Paris, and Sylvain Leblanc of Perce; his brothers, Jean of Edmonton, and Ernest of Ottawa; his brother and sisters-in-law, Charlotte Cote of Edmonton, Marcelle Cote of Hull, Louise Bisson and Monique Langlais of Quebec City, and Joanne and Pierre Langlais of North Hatley. Pierre worked as a mining engineer and a geologist, exploring for gold in the Yellowknife and Northern Quebec regions, and later for oil, after serving overseas as a Coastal Command RCAF Pilot. He then worked for Imperial Oil, Petro Canada and affiliates in Canada, Africa and Europe. At Pierre's request no Religious Service will be held, as he is joining the brachiopods in Peace Point. In lieu of flowers, a donation in Pierre's memory may be made directly to the Samaritan Club of Calgary.
CRONIN -- Albin (Al) James Cronin, beloved husband of Vi Cronin of Calgary, passed away at his home on Thursday, November 27, 1997 at the age of 50 years. Al was born in Walkerton, Ontario on August 4, 1947. He has worked most of his life in the construction industry and for the past few years has owned and operated Cronin Construction Ltd. Besides his loving wife, Al is survived by his four daughters, Tracey of Calgary, Kelly, April and Angie, all of Kitchener, ON. He is also survived by his parents, Jim and Florence Cronin of Walkerton, ON; his four sisters, Mary Anne and her husband Mark Scheurman of Chepstow, ON, Madeline and her husband Tom Gibbons, Joan and her husband Phil Metz, all of Kitchener, ON, Theresa and her husband George Redpath of Waterloo, ON. He will also be lovingly remembered by several aunts, uncles, numerous nieces and nephews, and many dear friends. HESLOP -- John Francis of Viking, Alberta, passed away peacefully on November 27, 1997 at the age of 89 years. John was one of the first pioneers in the Viking area and he participated in long and active service in numerous community associations.
