Rosie Rubusky nee: Dybak, of Coronation
Rosie Rubusky passed away in the Coronation Health Care Complex Extended Care Unit on October 10, 2003 at the age of 97 years.
Rosie was born October 25, 1905 in Winnipeg, the daughter of Peter and Lena (nee Helen Tymiak) Dybak. At the age of four, the family moved to Alberta to homestead near Lena’s parents in what was to become the Hemaruka district. She attended Kinear School, helped with chores at home, worked as a hired girl, and on November 25, 1923 married Alex Rubusky. Rosie and Alex’s first years were at Alex’s homestead near Burns School, about 30 miles south of Coronation. In 1944, the family moved to the family farm ten miles south of Coronation, her home for the next 52 years. In 1996, Rosie needed the care that the Extended Care facility was best able to provide and spent her remaining years there.
Rosie was devoted to her family, immediate and extended, never passing up an opportunity to attend a family gathering or hosting one. Two memorable highlights were Rosie and Alex’s 25th and 50th wedding anniversary celebrations that brought family and friends together to share the milestones.
Always a good homemaker and cook, Ukrainian dishes would be prepared for Christmas, and other special occasions. While having the ability to sew and embroider, Rosie had a special love and talent for crocheting, winning ribbons at several Coronation fairs for her crocheted doilies.
Rosie was predeceased by her husband Alex 1976; her daughter Lenora 1928; her sons Joseph 1935 and John 1993; her grandson David Herold 1985; her mother Lena 1946; her father Peter 1972; her sisters Mary Tanaschyk 1983; Annie Bodnaruk 1987; Jennie Golanowski 2000; and her brothers John 1909, Alex 1963 and Nick 1996.
She is survived by her sons William (Bill) of Coronation and Raymond (Patricia) of Crossfield; her daughters Mary James and Edna (Ben) Benstead of Calgary and Alice Woods of Camrose; her sisters Jessie Dybak and Polly Petersen of Edmonton and Edna (Don) Todd of Coronation; nine grandchildren, Jim and Clifford Wilkinson, Randy and Stanley Rubusky, Ronda (Rubusky) Sabourin, Thomas (Tom) James, Allan Robusky, Shannon (Robusky) Toll, and Randy Herold; her twelve great grandchildren, Jamie Wilkinson-Wright, Joshua, Jared and Justin Wilkinson, Kirk Wilson, Sarah, Kayla and Tessa Sabourin, Laurissa Herold, Lara and Rory Robusky, Alexei Toll and her numerous nieces, nephews and other relatives.
Funeral Service for the late Rosie Rubusky was held at the Trinity United Church, Coronation, Alberta on Wednesday, October 15, 2003 at 1:00 p.m. with Pastor Wade Hammond officiating. A tribute in Rosie’s memory was given by Steven Sankey. Organist, Margaret Merchant played for the congregational hymns “Amazing Grace, ” “How Great Thou Art” and “Whispering Hope” led in song by the Trinity United Church Choir. Brenda Brigley sang the solos “Morning Has Broken” and “On Eagle’s Wings” accompanied by Barbie Evans and Margaret Merchant. The active pallbearers were grandsons Jim Wilkinson, Cliff Wilkinson, Tom James, Stan Rubusky, Randy Herold and Allan Rubusky. The honorary pallbearers were grandchildren, Randy Rubusky, Ronda Sabourin, and Shannon Toll. The luncheon followed the funeral service in the lower hall of Trinity United Church prepared and served by the Trinity United Church Women. The interment then took place in the Senkiw Cemetery, Hemaruka, AB.
Should family or friends desire, memorial contributions may be made in Rosie’s memory to the Coronation Health Care Complex Foundation, Extended Care Unit or to a charity of the donor’s choice.
Parkview Funeral Chapels (1985) Ltd. are entrusted with care and funeral arrangements.
