Mr. Donald George Peterson of Youngstown passed away in Drumheller with his family by his side on October 21, 2004 at the age of 64 years.
Don was born July 12, 1940 at the Cereal Hospital; he was the first of four children born to Florence and George Peterson.
Don attended school in Chinook, and belonged to the 4-H Club for five years. He helped out on the family farm north of Chinook, undertaking all the necessary chores, like milking the cows and delivering milk all before school started. As a young man he started with Special Areas and remained there for forty years until his retirement. He was also a member of the Elks for 23 years.
From Don’s first marriage he had three sons; in 1976 he married Edith, which made for a much larger and definitely more interesting family, especially with two girls in it.
Don was an avid hunter, he enjoyed fishing, boating, woodworking, camping, crossword puzzles, all sports, listening to or yodeling to his good old country and western music and rodeos during the summer.
Don was predeceased by his father George in 1993.
He leaves to cherish his memory, his loving wife Edith, mother Florence of Hanna, sister Norma (Herb) of Wetaskiwin, Wayne (Shirley) of Hanna, Gerald (Bev) of Youngstown, sons Bradley (Jennifer), Allan (Charlotte), Darrin (Diana), daughter Melanie (Gordon), grandchildren Bradley, Krystal, Brooke, A.J., Chad, Courtney, Colten, Chelsea, Kristy, little A.J., Dustin, Brandon, Amanda, Shawn, Brian, Jeremiah, Scott, great grandchildren Zach, Chelsea, Kalia, Creedawn, and numerous aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, cousins and a lifetime of friends.
Don will be sadly missed by all who knew and loved him.
Funeral services for Don were held Monday, October 25, 2004 at 1:00 p.m. from the Youngstown Community Hall with a private family committal service held at the Chinook Cemetery. If friends so desire, donations may be made to the Drumheller Cancer Foundation. Courtney’s Funeral Service were in care of the arrangements.
HOHNE, Maria
On June 24th, Maria Hohne of Edson, Alberta, passed away at the age of 82 years.
Maria is survived by her children; son Elmer (Bonnie) Hohne of Edson, Alberta and their children Heidi and Sabine, daughter Ingrid (Kevin) Roy of Abbotsford, British Columbia and their children Andre and Katherine as well as her siblings, Erica (Abraham) Hildebrandt and family of Chilliwack, British Columbia and John (Selma) Fast and family of Kelowna, British Columbia.
There are numerous other relatives and many friends left to mourn as well.
Maria was predeceased by her husband Helmut on November 16th, 2015 as well as her parents George and Anna Fast and siblings Erwin, George and Vern Fast.
Cremation has taken place and interment of cremated remains will follow at a later date. In lieu of other tributes, donations if desired may be directed to the charity of the donor’s choice in memory of Maria Hohne.
HANSEN, Frederick William
On December 23, 2002 Beloved husband of Edith, passed away suddenly on Monday, December 23, 2002. Fred was born in Sibbald, AB but moved to the Columbia Valley in Edgewater, BC in 1926. He served overseas in WWII in the Royal Canadian Navy. He was a lifetime member of Edgewater Legion #199. In 1950 he and Edith Ramage were married in Edgewater. Fred was a master carpenter and lived and worked on many projects in both the East and West Kootneys. The tunnel at Radium was Grampa's tunnel to his grandkids. Fred moved back to Alberta five years ago to be closer to family but his heart was always in BC and Columbia Valley he loved so dear. He is survived by his three children, Lorne (Doris) Hansen and their son Darren of Edgewater, Dixie (Cecil) Lee and their daughter Marnie (Joe) Sylvester of Edmonton, Andrew Hansen of Calgary; his twin sister Ruth McGrath of Golden; many nieces, nephew and in-laws across Western Canada. Fred was predeceased by his oldest grandson Robert Lee in August 2002; his parents Peter and Elsie Hansen of Edgewater, BC; sister Myra Tagert and Dorothy Thompson; brothers Walter and Robert. There will be a viewing at Serenity Funeral Service 5311-91 St., on Friday, December 27, 2002 from 12:00 - 3:00 p.m. and on Saturday, December 28, 2002 from 12:00 - 3:00 p.m. Anyone wishing to visit with the family at their home on Friday, December 27, 2002 will be more than welcome and may phone 484-7231 for the address. Fred will be cremated and a service will take place in Edgewater, BC in the spring (date yet to be decided). Donations may be made to the "Choice Program" c/o Good Samaritan Mount Pleasant or the Edgewater Legion #199.
Ernest Edward Hall, of Stettler
1909 - 2004
Ernest Edward Hall of Stettler, Alberta passed away peacefully at home on Sunday, November 28, 2004 at the age of 95 years. He is survived by his loving wife Charlotte of 68 years, children Viola (Eldon) Wilson of Stettler, Arlene (Don) Herzog of Delia, Alberta, Donald (Bev) Hall of Delia, Alberta, David (Barb) Hall of Camrose, Alberta and Joanne (Dennis) Pickersgill of Calgary, Alberta. Fourteen grandchildren, twenty-eight great-grandchildren, three brothers-in-law, one sister-in-law, and numerous nieces, nephews other relatives and many friends. Ernie was predeceased by his parents Joseph and Minnie, one sister Isabel and three brothers, Brittain, Joe and Bill.
Ernie was born in Stettler on March 26, 1909. He lived on the homestead near Buffalo Lake until the age of eight. At this time, his family moved to Veteran. In 1924, the family then moved to the Delia district where he met his true love Charlotte Sverdahl. They were married in 1936 and together they farmed and raised their family in the Victor community.
In 1971, they retired to Stettler. Ernie was very active in his community. He coached baseball and was a 4-H Beef club leader for many years. He was a member of both the Delia and Stettler Elks Clubs. Ernie very much enjoyed summers fishing and camping with his family at Pine Lake where they had a trailer and a boat. Granddad especially enjoyed teaching his young grandchildren and great-grandchildren to fish. He even had to teach some of his grandsons-in-law the fine art of fishing.
Funeral services were held at the Stettler United Church on Thursday, December 2, 2004 at 2:00 P.M. with the Rev. Mervin Penfound officiating. The active pallbearers were Ernie’s grandsons; Kevin Wilson, Greg, Brent and Randy Herzog and Robert and Geoff Hall. Organist Mrs. Elaine Gordon accompanied for the Hymns “Amazing Grace” and “In The Garden”. Following the funeral service, the Stettler UCW graciously served a beautiful lunch in the Christian Education Wing of the Church.
As an expression of sympathy, memorial contributions in memory of Ernie can be made to S.T.A.R.S. Air Ambulance or to the charity of your choice in care of Brennen Funeral Home (2001) Ltd. P.O. Box 193 Stettler, AB TOC 2LO, who were entrusted with the funeral arrangements.
Hugh Donald (Barney) Matthews
MATTHEWS, Hugh Donald (Barney) - born in England 1918, passed away in Edmonton on March 31, 2012 at the age of 93. Barney's parents, Ted and Ellen Matthews homesteaded in the Wesley Creek area in 1919, and Barney lived in the Peace River area until retiring in 1978. Pre-deceased by wife Nancy (Shantz) and son Bill. Survived by daughters Barb and Bennett, and son Doug.
