- Shop now for incredible insights into your wellbeing -PARKKARI -- Florence Marie Parkkari. Marie was born August 28, 1933. Her youth was spent in the Alderson and Redcliff areas of Alberta. Marie began her working life at a glass factory in Redcliff, later joining the Royal Bank in Brooks, transferring with them to Calgary. She retired in 1988 to pursue full time her established craft of doll-making. Marie is known for her Raggedy Ann and Andy dolls, as well as many other craft and art projects. Marie was predeceased by her parents, John and Inga Parkkari and her brother John (Jack) Parkkari. She leaves to mourn her sudden death five aunts, May Carlson, Hazel Carlson, Alice Loughlin, Aune Parkkari and Edna Russell; numerous cousins spread throughout western Canada and in the United States. Many, many dear friends also mourn this tragic loss. SHLAH -- Mariam passed away peacefully in her sleep at the age of 96 years on November 25, 1997. She is survived by her beloved daughter Chafika Shlah; her grandchildren, Ghassan (Ghada), Marwan (Jamal), Adnan (Marion), Ryiad (Abir) Shlah, Nawal (Joseph) Estephan; and her great-grandchildren, Dima, Rima, Ribal, Raneen, Anese, Assmar and Sandra Shlah, Fayez, Carol and Reann Estephan. The family of Mariam wish to give their thanks to the staff of the Rockyview Hospital for providing care in her final weeks. TYESS -- Stephen. On October 16, 1997, Mr. Stephen Tyess of Edmonton, formerly of Calgary, passed away peacefully at the age of 83 years. He leaves to mourn his loss, his loving wife of fifty-six years, Edna; his son Martin Tyess of Elnora, Alberta; and his daughter Barbara Anne Tyess-Smith (Don) of Edmonton; four grandchildren, Kari Ann Cutler, Tom Tyess, Stacey Smith, Debbie Korsmo (Mark). Stephen is also survived by three brothers and two sisters, Frank Tyess (Dulcie), Joe Tyess and Harry Tyess, Kay Dunstan and Caroline Stubbs (Bill). WARD -- Garnet. Red's Gone Fishing Garnet was born July 6, 1916, and passed away peacefully November 25, 1997 at the age of 81. He will be sadly missed by his loving wife Rita; son Fredrick Courtney Ward (daughter-in-law Susan) of Lloydminster, Alberta; daughter Connie Lynn Payne (son-in-law Warren) of Calgary; and his five beloved grandsons, Michael, Shane, Christopher, Lance and Blake. He is also survived by his closest brother Earl Ward of Calgary; and extended family in Alberta, Sask. and Manitoba. It is his wish that family and friends remember him as they knew him, always eager for a fishing or hunting trip or a game of cards. BRAID -- Hugh Morrison, on Monday, November 24, in his 86th year, in Edmonton, with great courage, peace and dignity, after a long illness. Beloved husband of Helen for fifty-eight years, he leaves a lifetime of loving memories with her; with son Don, daughter-in-law Sydney Sharpe, and cherished grandchildren, Gabriel and Rielle, all of Calgary; with dear Edmonton relatives, Norma, Franklyn, Marie and Natalie Sharpe; with his grandnephews and grandnieces, Adrienne, Mercedes, Karl, Stephanie and Jean-Paul; and with niece Hillary; and nephews, David and Robert in Ontario. Predeceased by dear sisters, Betty and Janet, and by brother Robert. Hugh will be fondly remembered by many friends at Central Park Lodge in Edmonton, and by former associates at Honeywell Ltd. CARTEN -- Mary Caroline (nee Urquhart, nee Hatfield). Mary died peacefully November 22, 1997 in Edmonton, Alberta. Born in Fox River, Nova Scotia on May 23, 1894 to Captain Freeman Hatfield and Flora Salter, Mary led a full life dedicated to the service of others. Mary taught school in Parsboro, Nova Scotia from 1912 to 1915. In 1915 Mary entered St. Luke's School of Nursing in New York graduating in 1918. In 1922 she married Dr. Howard (Doc) Donald Urquhart of New York (predeceasing Mary in 1934). Mary returned to teaching in Parsboro from 1942 to 1960 and in 1960, married Albert Carten of Halifax, Nova Scotia (predeceasing Mary in 1971). Mary then moved West to Alberta where she is survived by her daughter Mary Hudson of Calgary. Also surviving are the Hudson grandchildren, Beth, Diana, John and Heather; the Urquhart grandchildren, Wenona, Pam, Howard and Ross; and five great-grandchildren. GAUVREAU -- Adrian Gauvreau passed away very peacefully at home on November 26, 1997 at the age of 81 years. Besides his loving wife Donna, he is survived by three sons, Larry (Irma) of Toronto, Richard (Pat) of Vancouver, and Edward (Lori) of Calgary; as well as four grandchildren, and one great-granddaughter. Adrian will be dearly missed as he was a devoted husband, loving father and grandfather. He is also survived by one brother Joe (Jean) Gauvreau; and two sisters, Yvette (Hugh) Watt, and Bertha Boychuck. HENDRICKSON -- Arnold Hendrickson passed away peacefully at the Bethany Care Centre, Calgary on Wednesday, November 26, 1997 at the age of 85 years. He will be lovingly remembered by his son Reg and wife Bonnie-Jean; daughter Marlene and husband Greg Cole; four grandchildren, Tim and Mitch Hendrickson, and Karen and Gena Cole; two sisters, Ida and Sylvia; one brother Clarence; and will be sadly missed by his relatives and friends. Arnold was predeceased by his wife Irene. He was active in the Order of the Eastern Star, the Masonic Lodge and Shriners. The Shrine Bar-b-que Unit in Red Deer was a special project of his. He spent many volunteer hours restoring old farm machinery at the Red Deer Museum and volunteering at the Westerner in Red Deer.
