SCHMITZ -- It is with deep sorrow that the family of Jerome Nicholas Schmitz of Strathmore, announce his passing on November 21, 1997 at the age of 74 years. He is survived by Lillian, his loving wife of forty-nine years. Also mourning his death are his six loving daughters, Kay (Greg) Rosell of High River, Connie (David) McBride of Edmonton, Lynn (Francis) Van Bussel of Strathmore, Debbie (Peter) Muller of Edmonton, Margie (Michael) Barrie of Fernie, B.C., and Shelli (Gerry) McCallum of High River. Jerome was a devoted grandfather to twenty-six grandchildren and five great-grandchildren. He is also survived by two sisters, Julie Craik of Spirit River and Dorothy (Bob) Lewisson of Dawson Dreek, B.C.; and one brother Matt Schmitz of Fort Macleod. He was predeceased by three brothers, one sister, and one grandchild. Until his stroke a year ago, Jerome was an avid golfer and was also actively involved with Wheatland Funeral Home. STEAD -- Mr. Bert Arthur Stead, beloved husband of Jean Stead, High River, passed away at the High River Hospital on November 21, 1997 at the age of 82 years. Besides his wife, Bert is survived by his daughters, Carolyn Kille, Calgary, Rowena (Ramone) Gillis, Abbotsford, B.C., Janet (Robert) Atkinson and Bonnie Lynn (Richard) Van Grieken, all of Calgary; his sons, Robert Gary Stead, Calgary, and Ronald Keith (Jackie) Stead, Okotoks; seventeen grandchildren and three great-grandchildren. He is also survived by his brother George (Ruth) Stead, Nanton. He was predeceased by his sister Helen Johnson. WEISNER -- Lydia Weisner, nee Stuckert, passed away peacefully on November 20, 1997 at the age of 82 years. She was predeceased by her husband Alexander, two brothers, Albert and Fred, and two sisters, Emma King and Elsie O'Brien. Lydia is survived by her two sons, Gerald (Dorothy), Gary (Janet); daughter Margaret (Robert) Campbell; brother Walter Stuckart; sister Joyce Carmichael; as well as her grandchildren, Debbie (Paul) Hennig, Karen (Colin) Kinley, Steven (Deanna) Weisner, Linda (Dallas) Miller, Jonathon and Stephanie Campbell; and three great-grandchildren. She was an active lifetime member of St. John Lutheran Church, as well as a charter member and volunteer at the Bethany Care Centre for thirty-six years, and a longtime volunteer with the Canadian Red Cross as well as the Calgary Public School Board. Lydia will be sadly missed. Funeral Services will be held at St. John Lutheran Church (204 - 6A Street N.E.) today at 10:00 a.m. with Pastor Markus Wilhelm officiating. HARTUNG -- Amelia (nee Schiffner) loving mother, grandmother, great-grandmother and friend, passed away peacefully at the Rockyview General Hospital after a lengthy illness. Amelia was born in Samara, Russia of German parents, and was the last survivor of the family of seven children which immigrated to Canada in 1924. She lived in Cluny, Alberta until moving to Champion, Alberta in 1936 and later to Calgary in 1962. She was predeceased by her husband Alex in 1972 and a grandson Terry in 1992. She is survived by four children, Alfred (Joan), Mary Ann (Henry) Evans, Dorothy (Gordon) Turley of Calgary, and David (Helen) of Champion; six grandchildren, four great-grandchildren, numerous nieces and nephews and five sisters-in-law. Funeral Services will be held at MEMORIES FUNERAL CHAPEL, on the corner of Macleod Trail South and Lake Fraser Drive on Tuesday, November 25, 1997 at 10:30 a.m. with the Reverend Alvin Roth officiating. Interment to be in the Vulcan Cemetery following the Service.
