- Shop now for incredible insights into your wellbeing -ROWLAND -- Cecil Herbert was born in Ontario on September 3, 1910 and passed away at the Lacombe Health Care Centre on November 21, 1997 at the age of 87 years. Cecil moved west with his family when he was still very young, settled in Saskatchewan, first in the Kindersley area, and later near Meadow Lake, where he homesteaded. After a few years Cecil left the farm to work in Meadow Lake at a number of different jobs. While there, he met Wilda Ridley, and they were married in 1953. In 1959 they returned to farming, purchasing a small farm in the Dorintosh district. Upon retirement, they moved to Calgary where they both served in the office of Wycliffe Bible Translators for about ten years. In 1993 Cecil moved to the nursing home in Lacombe, where he remained until his passing. Cecil is survived by three children, Clara (Brian) Kozowy of La Ronge, SK, Gordon (Val) Rowland of Lacombe, AB, and Edna (Steve) Wisler of Elliston, MT; and nine grandchildren. He is also survived by two sisters, Bernice Seymour and Florence Ward, both of Langley, BC; three sisters-in-law, and several nieces and nephews. Cecil is predeceased by his loving wife Wilda in 1989, and by four brothers. Funeral Services will be held at the Rockyview Alliance Church, 6927 Rundlehorn Drive N.E., Calgary, on Tuesday, November 25, 1997 at 2:00 p.m. with Pastor Randy Rohrick officiating. Interment to follow in the Mountain View Memorial Gardens. In lieu of flowers, donations may be directed to the charity of the donor's choice. GANONG -- Charles Harry Ganong, beloved husband of Judy Ganong, passed away November 22, 1997 at the Peter Lougheed Centre at the age of 52 years. As well as his wife, he is survived by their three sons, Shane (Shirley), Kelly, and Rory (Serena); five grandchildren, Travis, Culinda, Stephanie, Nicole and Kathleen; three sisters, two brothers, and many other relatives and friends. Charlie was born and raised in Calgary. He has been a dedicated Firefighter for twenty-seven years and will be greatly missed by all who knew him. HARTUNG -- Amelia (nee Schiffner) loving mother, grandmother, great-grandmother and friend, passed away peacefully at the Rockyview General Hospital after a lengthy illness. Amelia was born in Samara, Russia of German parents, and was the last survivor of the family of seven children which immigrated to Canada in 1924. She lived in Cluny, Alberta until moving to Champion, Alberta in 1936 and later to Calgary in 1962. She was predeceased by her husband Alex in 1972 and a grandson Terry in 1992. She is survived by four children, Alfred (Joan), Mary Ann (Henry) Evans, Dorothy (Gordon) Turley of Calgary, and David (Helen) of Champion; six grandchildren, four great-grandchildren, numerous nieces and nephews and five sisters-in-law. Funeral Services will be held at MEMORIES FUNERAL CHAPEL, on the corner of Macleod Trail South and Lake Fraser Drive on Tuesday, November 25, 1997 at 10:30 a.m. with the Reverend Alvin Roth officiating. STEAD -- Mr. Bert Arthur Stead, beloved husband of Jean Stead, High River, passed away at the High River Hospital on November 21, 1997 at the age of 82 years. Besides his wife, Bert is survived by his daughters, Carolyn Kille, Calgary, Rowena (Ramone) Gillis, Abbotsford, B.C., Janet (Robert) Atkinson and Bonnie Lynn (Richard) Van Grieken, all of Calgary; his sons, Robert Gary Stead, Calgary, and Ronald Keith (Jackie) Stead, Okotoks; seventeen grandchildren and three great-grandchildren. He is also survived by his brother George (Ruth) Stead, Nanton. He was predeceased by his sister Helen Johnson. STEWART -- Gladys Grace Stewart passed away on November 21, 1997 at the age of 83 years at the Carewest Glenmore, Calgary, Alberta. She leaves to cherish her memory, one son Don Stewart (Marian) of Gunn, Alberta; two daughters, Judy Potter (Glen) of Calgary, and Lori Hunt (Grant) of North Vancouver, B.C.; also, five grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; four sisters, Helen, Alice, Inez and Florence; one brother Jack; and many nieces, nephews and friends. ADAMS -- Joseph Cecil. Cec is at peace. He was born on December 18, 1914 at Glenboro, Manitoba and died on November 24, 1997 at Calgary. Grandpa's memory will be cherished by his daughter Bev; his son Brad; daughter-in-law Anni; and special grandchildren, Leah and Grayson, all of Calgary. He was predeceased by his beloved Gwen. He will be missed by Gwen's sisters and brothers and their families, by his sister Nancy, and sister-in-law Vonda, and their families and many friends. Cec found adventure in the Royal Canadian Navy in World War II. After the war, he found love in Winnipeg, married and moved to Calgary. For forty-eight years, Cec and Gwen welcomed family and friends to their home with the manicured lawn and the fragrant lilac bushes. Cec worked as a planer at Cushing Mills and as a caretaker at McKay Road Elementary and TB Riley Jr. High. He enjoyed his retirement, especially walking, camping, watching baseball and winning at crib. A gifted woodworker, he was especially proud of the recycled-wood trays and hockey stick cutting boards that he made. Above all, Cec enjoyed his family. We will remember him dressed jauntily in his Panama hat, red shirt and bolo tie. Goodnight, dear Grandpa; the Lord bless you and keep you.
