LEASK - Mr. George Leask of Madden, passed away at the Peter Lougheed Centre on Thursday, May 25, 2000 at the age of 85 years. George was born on August 22, 1914 in Marcelin, SK. He lived and farmed in the Madden Community since 1928. He married Gladys Wenstrom on September 21, 1944. George is survived by four sons and daughters-in-law, Dennis and Barbara Leask of Westward Ho, Wayne and Bernice Leask of Cremona, Gordon and Cathy Leask of Olds, and Ian Leask and Michele Lamoureux of Crossfield; a daughter and son-in-law, Linda and Ed Miller of Acme; thirteen grandchildren, Kari (Barry) McElhinney, Dennis, Jr., Lee, Shannon, Lyle, Kim, Sherry, Wendy, Jason, Matthew, Cambria, Sydney and Rhianne; and a great-granddaughter Mackenzie. He is also survived by two sisters, Isabel Leask of Calgary and Catherine Leask of Crossfield. George will be warmly remembered by his family and friends. George was predeceased by his wife Gladys Leask, his parents, Margaret and George Leask, three brothers, James, Donald (Slim) and Malcolm (Mac) and a sister Margaret Sharp. Funeral Services will be held at Madden Community Hall, Madden, Alberta on Monday, May 29, 2000 at 2:00 p.m. with the Rev. Cecile Fausak of Crossfield/Madden United Church officiating. MOONEY - John Hodgson Hemphill Mooney, E.D., C.D., went gently in to that good night on May 21, 2000, at Glenmore Carewest. He was the most beloved husband for fifty-nine years of Mollie (nee Cooney), and dearest father of Caroline (Peter) Metcalfe and grandfather of Sarah Burgess, all of Vancouver. He is also survived by his sister-in-law Helen Mooney, Victoria, B.C.; his nephew Patrick (Lucy) Mooney and their sons, David and John III, Kansas City, Missouri. Born on April 2, 1914 at Grouard, AB, he spent his early years in Edmonton, AB, commissioned in the R.C.A. (Militia). In 1937, he was called to active service at the outbreak of the Second World War and went overseas with the advance party of the First Canadian Division and subsequently joined the 3rd Field Regiment R.C.A. In 1942 he attended the R.A.F. staff College after which he was appointed Air Liaison Officer with 39 RECCE Wing R.C.A.F. in France and Holland. Retiring from active duty in 1946, he later commanded the 19th Medium Regiment R.C.A. (Militia), in Calgary. In the summer of 1956 he commanded the Canadian Military Cadet Camp in Vernon B.C. He was engaged in the retail business and latterly the Canada Pension Plan. He was a life-member of the Calgary Exhibition and Stampede Board, and a board member of the Last Post Fund. He enjoyed serving on the Fall Fair Committee of Heritage Park and the great times with EL-BO-BO Cross Country-Ski Club. Our grateful thanks to the dedicated staff at the Glenmore 2 South for their compassionate care. A Private Family Service was held at Christ Church Elbow Park with the Reverend Roy Darcus officiating. Letters and flowers gratefully declined. O'CONNOR - Irene J. O'Connor of Calgary passed away on Saturday, December 16, 2000 at the age of 77 years. Born and raised in Canmore, AB, Irene was a long- time resident of Calgary. She is survived by her son and daughter-in-law, Dan and Lynne of Phoenix, AZ; three granddaughters, Megan, Erin and Kelly; two brothers, Bill of Edmonton and Cyril of Brooks; her long-time companion Sam Swain of Calgary; as well as numerous nieces and nephews. OLSEN - Edward John Olsen passed away at the Rockyview Hospital on December 22, 2000 at the age of 87 years. Edward is remembered by his daughters, Gael Edmonson and Liane Nolan; his stepchildren, Allana (John) Patterson, Dan (Marty) Wegg and Ben (Elizabeth) Wegg; his twelve grandchildren and two great-grandchildren. He will also be remembered by his brothers, Melville (Olive) and Stanley (Bunty); his sisters, Elinor Herbert, Dorothy Olsen, Norma Brady and Jacqueline (Warren) Moon; numerous nieces and nephews; and other relatives; as well as by his many friends and business associates. Edward was predeceased by his wife Jeanne Olsen. Ed was born in Winnipeg, Manitoba on February 10, 1913. All his life he enjoyed the outdoors, particularly the mountains where he often went with family and friends. As a salesman he worked for Westons Bakery, Watkins and Fuller Brush. He began his own business "Ed's Cleaning Supplies" retiring from it at age eighty-five years. Ed was an active member of the United Church including singing in the choir. Model railroading was a hobby he found in later life. Scouting was an integral part of his life for over sixty years, which was shown by the way he lived each day, to do his best; to help others. The family wishes to thank Dr. Bruce Wright and the staff of Unit 58 at the Rockyview Hospital for their compassionate care. PAULSON - Velma Muriel (Vee), nee Lowry, died peacefully at home on January 2, 2001 at the age of 86. She was predeceased by her husband Stan in 1986 after nearly fifty years of marriage. Velma was born in Tilley, Alberta, in 1914 and spent many of her growing-up years in Camrose, Alberta, where she and Stan were childhood sweethearts. They moved to Calgary in 1944. Velma was a woman of many talents: an accomplished pianist, a skilled bridge player, a voracious reader, a dedicated wife and always, above all, a loving mother and grandmother. For the past twenty-five years, family and friends have been welcomed to her beautiful home in Hawaii, where she spent some of the winter months. Velma is survived by her children, Peggy, Peter (Ildiko), Jamie (Clair) and Valerie Paulson; and eight grandchildren, Jill and Kate (Michael Tippett) Armstrong, Erika (Harry Wttewaall) Paulson, P.J. Paulson, Julie, Christopher and Danny Paulson, and Jenny Steer. She will be remembered with much love. According to her wishes, there will be no Services. RAST - Oskar Rast passed away peacefully to be with his Lord and Saviour on January 1, 2001 at the age of 93 years and 3 weeks. He emigrated to Canada in April 1951 and lived in Calgary since then. Left behind to mourn him are eight children in Alberta and one son in Poland; grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
