SWITZER, Nora Elvera On June 7, 2000, Mrs. Nora Elvera Switzer of Edmonton, widow of Keith Corneille Switzer, passed away at the age of 90 years. She leaves to mourn her loss, one son and daughter-in-law, Bruce Corneille Switzer and Carole Stern-Switzer of Tuscon, Arizona; one daughter and son-in-law, Linda Jean and Gordon Kilbride of Prince George, B.C.; four grandchildren, Sean Corneille Switzer of Vancouver, B.C., Keith O'Shea of Victoria, B.C., Maureen O'Shea of Victoria, B.C., Hannah Rose Switzer of Tucson, Arizona; one sister, Myrtle Hall of Edmonton; one brother, Walter Sorenson of Edmonton; and many nieces and nephews. Funeral Services will be held on Saturday at 10:00 a.m. at the Foster and McGarvey Funeral Chapel, 10008 - 103 Street. Captain Larry Farley will officiate and interment will take place in the Edmonton Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Canadian Cancer Society or the Arthritis Society. WILLIAMS, Gordon George May 11, 1933 - June 6, 2000 Gordon George Williams passed away quietly on June 6, 2000. Gordon is survived by his loving wife, Irene; and daughter, Noeline; brothers, Harvey and Pat Williams; grandchildren, Lisa and Daniel; and grandson, James; as well as many nieces and nephews. A Memorial Service will be held on Saturday, June 10, 2000 at 3:00 p.m. at Harmony Funeral Services Chapel, 10541-81 Avenue, Edmonton. PHILLIPS, Sister Mary Ethel S.O.S. Sister Mary Ethel Phillips, S.O.S., died peacefully at St. Joseph's Auxiliary Hospital, Edmonton, Alberta on June 18th, 2000 in the 65th year of her religious life. Born February 2nd, 1918 in Ste. Amelie, Manitoba, Sister Mary was the eldest of eight children born to Herbert Phillips and Elizabeth Jane Crossland. She was predeceased by her sister, Dorothy (Flannigan) and her brother, William. She entered the Sisters of Service in Toronto in February of 1935. With the exception of a few years in Ontario, she spent her entire religious life ministering in the rural areas of Alberta. Following graduation from the University of Alberta, she taught school at Rycroft, Faust, Joussard and Fort McMurray in Northern Alberta. During this time, she spent two summers in Ghana and Uganda, Africa, as a member of the Canadian Teachers Federation Project Overseas to train African teachers. Graduate studies in Early Childhood Education at Oxford, England, and in Learning Disabilities at the University of Oregon in Eugene, Oregon followed. Thus equipped she developed and supervised Early Childhood Education program for the Fort McMurray Catholic School Board. On retirement from the School Board, she served as member of the Pastoral Council of the Catholic Parishes in Fort McMurray and worked with Home Care to introduce a Palliative Care Program. Her involvement in church, social, civic and educational organization were legion as well as awards and citations she received for her public service. She was honoured by Confederation of Canada in recognition of valuable service to the Nation; the Province of Alberta with a community achievement for her community service; the Diocese of St. Paul, Alberta for her outstanding contribution and by the Fort McMurray Catholic School Board who named a school in her honour. She is survived by her loving Sisters of Service Community; brothers, George of Toronto, Robert (Mary) of Stroud, Ontario and Jack of National City, California; sisters, Rita (Roy) Graves of Richmond Hill and Margaret (Bruce) McNabb of Parry Sound; sister-in-law, Nora Phillips of Los Angeles, California; as well as several nieces, nephews and a host of friends in Alberta and throughout Canada. A gathering will be held at St. Andrews Centre, 12720-111 Avenue, Edmonton on Wednesday, June 21, 2000 at 7:30 p.m. Reverend Richard Theroux will celebrate a Mass of the Resurrection, Thursday, June 22, 2000 at 11:00 a.m. at Our Lady of Perpetual Help Catholic Church, Stony Plain, Alberta. Private interment will follow in the Sisters of Service Community plot in St. Joachim Cemetery, Edmonton. A Memorial Mass will also be held Tuesday, June 27, 2000 at 7:30 p.m. at St. John the Baptist Catholic Church, in Fort McMurray. POFFENROTH, Harvey On Monday, June 19, 2000, Harvey Poffenroth of Edmonton, passed away at the age of 78 years. He will be sadly missed by his wife, Anna; three daughters, Lesile Brand, Sandra Hutton, Brenda (Brian) Gogerla; five grandchildren, David (Anne), Adam (Cindy), Jackie (John), Jocelyn and Randy; five great-grandchildren, Dillon, Melinda, Kelly, Cheryl and Ashley. He is also survived by one brother and two sisters; as well as numerous nieces and nephews. A Memorial Service will be held Wednesday, June 21, 2000 at 1:00 p.m. at the Chapel of Howard & McBride Westlawn, 16310 Stony Plain Road, Edmonton. Cremation has taken place. PROPERZI, Leon Dominico On Sunday, June 18, 2000 Leon Dominico Properzi of Barrhead, Alberta passed away at the age of 59 years. He is survived by his loving wife, Betty; two daughters, Angel (Mike) Warehime, Veronica (Dean) Rau; one son, Steven (Crystal) Properzi; five grandchildren, Angela, Warren, Ryan, Allyson and Kurtis; his mother, Katherine Properzi all of Barrhead, AB; one brother, Vernon (Marion) Properzi of Barrhead; four sisters, Laurine (Ray) Marquette of Westlock, Evonne (Bob) Coombs of Edmonton, Sandra (Larry) Kremp of Devon, Patsy (Don) Cobb of Grande Prairie; as well as numerous nieces, nephews, other relatives and many friends. ROTTO, Janette Mrs. Janette Rotto of Camrose passed away on Sunday, June 18, 2000 at the age of 63 years. She had taught for over 40 years in the Camrose and District School Division. She is survived by her loving sons, Greg (Kathleen O'Sullivan) of Queenstown, New Zealand and Dale (Kimberly) of Mansfield, Texas; five grandchildren, Benjamin, Colleen, Annelise, Taylor and Paige; one brother, Lowell (Sandra) Wattie of Edmonton; and numerous relatives and friends. Janette was predeceased by her husband, Ken in 1969 and her Mother and Father Vestie and Gorden. SALZL, Daniel Joseph 1918 - 2000 On June 17 Daniel Joseph Salzl died suddenly at home at the age of 81 years. Dan will be lovingly remembered and forever cherished by his wife, Peggy; and his children, Ron (Pat), Chilliwack, B.C., Mary Lee (Bruce) Ross, Edmonton, Margaret, Edmonton, Glenn (Connie), Drayton Valley, AB; seven grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; his sister, Marion Garneau; and several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his son, Bruce; his daughter, Lori; and two brothers, Jack and Phillip. Dan was born in Edmonton and spent most of his life here. He served for five years in the R.C.A.F. as a pilot. He was a true nature lover and an avid bird watcher.
