DOVER -- Elizabeth Dover, passed away at the Bethany Care Centre on February 2, 1998 at the age of 82 years. She is survived by her two sons, George (Gwen) of Winnipeg and Bill (Darlene) of Vancouver; and his three daughters, Betty (Jake), Joan (Vic) and Pat (Charlie), all of Calgary. Elizabeth is also survived by sisters-in-law, Beth (Bill) Mills, Ivy (Eldon) Kinart and Margaret Prudom; and numerous nieces and nephews. Also survived by twenty grandchildren and thirty-two great-grandchildren. She was predeceased by her husband George Dover on December 7, 1997. Elizabeth was a lifetime member of Greater Forest Lawn Seniors Club. Elizabeth was a loving wife, mother and grandmother. GUTHRIE -- Mr. John (Jack) Guthrie passed away peacefully at home in the presence of his loving family on January 29, 1998, after a courageous battle with cancer. Jack is survived by his faithful and loving companion Vera; daughters, Phyllis, Gwenne and Beverley Guthrie; and three grandchildren, Joan, Jevon and Dante (J.J.), all of Calgary. Jack was born in Edmonton, Alberta, May 30, 1930 and was raised in St. Paul, Alberta where he completed his schooling. He later attended the University of Alberta. As a young man, he entered the oil and gas industry, having worked for Velocity Surveyors, General Geophysical and Petty-Ray Geophysical. He then went on to form his own company, Sourcex Geophysical, with partner Mickey Strembitsky and later Noramex Resources. Jack spent much time enjoying his hobby collecting and restoring military vehicles and was a member of the Royal Alberta United Services Institute (R.A.U.S.I.). He had a terrific sense of humour and had fun performing his "Magic Tricks" for young and old alike. In his time of illness, his upbeat personality and graciousness shone through. He will be sadly missed by all those he touched, with his caring, thoughtful and humanitarian character. He was predeceased by his mother and father, Marion and William Dyce Guthrie, brother George and son John. HERRON -- Mary Madeleine Herron (nee Wynne) passed away at her residence in the Renoir of February 2, 1998 at the age of 90. Mrs. Herron is survived by two sisters; Lucille Vernon and Hazel Reynolds; two sons and their wives, Bill (Carol) and Bob (Cynthia) all of Calgary; six grandchildren, Brian (Debby), Stewart (Yvonne), Shelley (Ron Vagg), Deborah (Reid Davies), Wesley and Jennifer, and six great-grandchildren. She was predeceased by her brother Frank Wynne. Her family homesteaded east of Pollockville, Alberta and when she was a child moved to Calgary where she attended school, and has remained except for a few of her early married years spent in Turner Valley. She was an accomplished artist, seamstress, horsewoman and dancer. She was a familiar figure in the Stampede Parade for many years and during her time of riding and showing champion horses, she designed and made the outfits that she and her family wore. She also designed and made many of the dresses she wore while winning countless awards at Arthur Murray Dance Studio competitions throughout Canada and the USA. Her paintings and other artwork are prized possession of many of her friends and family. HOEPER -- Ernst passed away on Tuesday, February 3, 1998 at the age of 81. Survived by his loving wife Herta; two daughters, Jutta Abel (Glenn) of Coquitlam, B.C., Barbara Hoeper (Jim) of Edmonton; two sons, Peter Hoeper (Ave) of Calgary, Robert Hoeper (Laurie Ellen) of Edmonton; ten grandchildren, Monica, Nicole, Michael, Karin, Rob, Zara, Genevieve, Alex, Graham and Isabella; and one great-granddaughter Molly. KARPISEK -- Alberta Beatrice Karpisek, 86, of Grande Prairie, AB. It is with sadness that the family of Alberta Beatrice Karpisek announces her passing on Monday, February 2, 1998 at MacKenzie Place, Grande Prairie. Alberta, the second daughter of Ben and Florence Ferguson, was born in Richdale, Alberta on December 23, 1911. Along with her family, she moved to Beaverlodge in 1931. In 1933, she married Lawrence Nelson in Hanna and lived there until 1937. With their two children, Imogene and Dennis, they moved to the Valhalla area where they farmed until Lawrence's passing in 1939. Alberta married Joe Karpisek in 1941 and together they had two children, Ben and Dianne. The family successfully farmed in the Homestead area, where Alberta was a very vital part of the community. Even though they sold the farm in 1976, Alberta and Joe continued living there until 1981. After a short time in Beaverlodge they moved to Grande Prairie. Joe later passed away in 1989. Alberta was very active in the community as a 4-H leader, member of the Women's Institute, the United Church and with the Canadian Cancer Society. During their semi-retirement and retirement, Alberta and Joe enjoyed many vacations in Canada and abroad, as well as traveling with their truck, camper and little dog Lady throughout the provinces of Alberta and British Columbia. Alberta leaves to mourn her passing, her children, Imogene (Dave) Brook of Calgary, Dennis Nelson, Sexsmith, Ben (Susan) Karpisek, Grande Prairie, Dianne (Daryle) Blum, Sherwood Park. She is also survived by one sister Inez Severson of Grande Prairie; brother-in-law Jim Karpisek of Surprise, Nebraska; sister-in-law Rosalie Kriz, Lincoln, Nebraska; fourteen grandchildren, Terry, Janet and Randy, Wayne, Debbie, Cindy, Shelley and Jason, Lyle, Tracy, Josh and Sophia, Catherine and Cara; also ten great-grandchildren; numerous nieces and nephews; many friends and neighbours. Along with Lawrence and Joe, she was predeceased by her parents and three sisters, Gerva, Gwen and Clara. KURAN -- Mrs. Louise Agnes Kuran (nee Mraz) passed away peacefully at the Extendicare Cedars Villa, on Sunday, February 1, 1998 at the age of 83 years. Louise is lovingly remembered by her son Frank (Ann), and daughter Irene Hauck; grandchildren, Greg (Debbie), Ann (Don), Cindy (Kim), Kathy (Mohammed), James (Cynthia); great-grandchildren, Jeffrey, Andrew, Beverly, Elizabeth, Ibrahim, Adam, Christine, Carmel and Douglas. She is also survived by her sisters, Jennie Gorcak (George), Agnes Parry (Glyn) and Ethel Dobek (John); sister-in-law Stella Mraz; and numerous nieces and nephews. Louise was born in Coleman, Alberta on June 21, 1914. She married Joseph John Kuran and together in love they raised their family, the joy of Louise's life. The constant sacrifices throughout her life for those she so dearly loved were to become for us, her family, the essence of Christianity lived through a woman of hospitality, generosity, warmth and humour. Louise was predeceased by Joseph, her beloved husband of thirty-five years, her daughter Amelia, her brother Steve Mraz and her son-in-law Tony Hauck. In early childhood, she lost her dad Joseph Mraz, and later, her mother Johnanna, both of whom she remembered to the end as precious and treasured. Louise joined the Catholic Women's League, Holy Spirit Council in Coleman and received her fifty year pin while a member of the Holy Name Council in Calgary. MOORE -- John Stanley (Stan) Moore. The family is sad to announce the death of Stan Moore, on Sunday, February 1, 1998 in Calgary, Alta. Stan was born on March 22, 1907 in Leduc, Alta. He was predeceased by his first wife Lillian (Patrick) in 1981 and by his son Gerald in 1956. He is survived by Grace, his wife of fifteen years, formerly of Grande Prairie. Stan farmed East of Grande Prairie for many years and later at Northmark. He retired from farming in 1978 and enjoyed dividing his time between Sidney, B.C. and Mesa, Arizona. He is fondly remembered and survived by his children, John (Jacqueline), Marlin (Louise) of Calgary, and Donna (Ron Liesemer) of Carstairs; grandchildren, Murray, Ronda, Karen, Gary, Michele, Andre, Kristin and Johnny; as well as ten great-grandchildren. He is also survived by his sister Mary of Kelowna; brother Lloyd of South Africa. Stan was predeceased by his brother Gordon and sister Margaret. MORASCH -- Emanuel (Pat), beloved husband of Mrs. Esther Morasch of Calgary, passed away at the Foothills Hospital on January 30, 1998 at the age of 84 years. Pat will be fondly remembered by his wife Esther; son Stan; daughter Pamela; grandson Tim; sister Lena McKinstry; and nephew George. Born and raised in Calgary, Pat spent his early work years on the farm, but most of his work life in various aspects of the house building business. The ten years before his retirement he worked as a carpenter for the Calgary Board of Education. Over the following thirteen years, Pat and Esther were able to travel and enjoy life to the fullest. The years after his stroke were difficult, but he never lost his vitality and perpetual optimism. Pat will always be remembered for his generosity, zest for life and love of family. BRASSARD -- Mr. Adelbert (Del) Vernon Brassard of Cochrane died peacefully, surrounded by his family, amidst love, laughter, prayers and song at the Agape Manor Hospice on Tuesday, February 3, 1998, at the age of 80 years. CHEVERTON -- Robert (Bob) William Cheverton died Monday, February 2, 1998 at home. He was born March 20, 1931 in Edmonton, Alberta. On December 8, 1951 he married Audrey Graden and they relocated to Calgary. Bob joined General Supplies Limited, beginning in the parts department. He later moved into sales and had a successful career at GSL Chevy City that spanned decades. He will be missed by his customers and his co-workers. Bob cherished the time spent with his family and enjoyed many happy times on the golf course and on the water, fishing. He also enjoyed skiing and had a distinctive style that can only be described as "smooth". Never a spectator, he was an active, vital grandfather, father and husband. Blessed with patience, tolerance and a sense of humour, he was a role model for his family and his friends. Bob is survived by his wife of forty-six years, Audrey; daughter Janet Carol (Bob Brown); son Douglas Robert (Marieta); and three grandchildren, Trevor, Chelsea and Nicole. GEELAN -- Lillian M. (Lily) Geelan of Calgary, passed away peacefully at the Beverly Care Centre on February 4, 1998, just 16 days short of her 105th Birthday. Lil was a member of St. Michael's CWL in Black Diamond prior to moving to Calgary in 1960, and she was an active member in the Holy Cross Auxiliary in Calgary for many years. Lil is survived by her daughter Mary Jane Crain of Calgary; and her son the Rev. Louis Geelan, O.F.M. of Winnipeg, MB; as well as several nieces, nephews, and two sisters-in-law, all in the United States. Lil was predeceased by her husband Lou on June 26, 1981.
