SABASCH -- William August Sabasch 1916 - 1998 Bill was our Dad. He was born near Kelstern, Saskatchewan in his parent's farmhouse eighty-two years ago. He passed away to God's World on Saturday, January 31, 1998. Dad was twenty-eight years old when he and Mom married in 1945, and they had five children. They farmed for eleven years, then moved to Calgary. Dad did a variety of jobs, then managed a Gulf Service Station until his retirement. He was proud of his work ethic. He was a model employee, because he knew there was no greater calling than to serve others. Dad was a real old-fashioned gentleman; he loved to visit with people and had a great sense of humour. He liked to shoot pool, play cards, and watch sports on T.V. Dad was a real handyman. He loved to fix things around the house. He was delighted when his three grandsons were born. He was their "Pumpa" and teacher, and a gifted mentor. Dad was a devote Christian with an absolute passion for the Bible. His faith was personal and he spent time with God daily. He died peacefully at home. STAUFT -- Shirley Evelyn Stauft (nee MacKichan), beloved wife of Peter Stauft of Calgary, passed away at the Foothills Hospital on January 30, 1998 at the age of 71, after a courageous eighteen month battle with cancer. Besides her husband, Shirley is survived by two sons and daughters-in-law; Mark (Karen) of Calgary, and John (Janet) of Victoria; three grandchildren, Taylor and Courtney of Calgary, and Ellsa Mary of Victoria. She is also survived by two brothers, Gerald (Jean) and Ken (Evelyn); and a sister-in-law Audrey. She was predeceased by her sister Mary and husband Jim Leithhead and her brother Jack. WETHERALL -- On Saturday, January 31, 1998, Shirley Wetherall slipped gently and peacefully into God's loving embrace, rejoining her loving husband, Fred Wetherall and her beloved parents, Lilian and Charles Orman. Born on February 4, 1927, she lived a life full of family, friends, love and laughter. She worked as a secretary and an office manager both in Calgary and Colorado. She was active in the YWCA and Kappa Gamma. Shirley loved golfing, bridge and bowling. She had a gift for life-long friendships and was blessed with a circle of friends who shared their lives, traveling, playing, talking and laughing. She will be deeply missed by her daughters and their husbands, Wendy and Ian Lasalle, Lee Wetherall and Chris Galbraith, Sharon and Mike Barr; and her son and his wife, Spencer and Holly Wetherall; and her grandchildren, Kristen and Adam Barr, Christine Miller, and Peter and Jamie Galbraith; and her brother and his wife, Jack and Doreen Orman. WHITEHEAD -- Muriel Whitehead passed away peacefully on January 30, 1998 at the age of 72 years. She was born on April 28, 1925 in the town of Jump, Yorkshire, England. COOL -- Mrs. Margaret (Peg) Cool passed away peacefully on Thursday, January 29, 1998 at the Bow View Manor in Calgary at the age of 94 years. She was the beloved mother of John (Mickey) Cool of Carseland and Margaret (Fred) Kauffman of Sun City, Arizona. She was a very special grandmother of seven and great-grandmother of fourteen. She is also survived by a sister Elizabeth Wyman of Vermont. Peg was born in Lawrence, Kansas and moved to the Carseland district in 1929 where she farmed with her late husband Ben. KURAN -- Mrs. Louise Agnes Kuran (nee Mraz) passed away peacefully at the Extendicare Cedars Villa, on Sunday, February 1, 1998 at the age of 83 years. Louise is lovingly remembered by her son Frank (Ann), and daughter Irene Hauck; grandchildren, Greg (Debbie), Ann (Don), Cindy (Kim), Kathy (Mohammed), James (Cynthia); great-grandchildren, Jeffrey, Andrew, Beverly, Elizabeth, Ibrahim, Adam, Christine, Carmel and Douglas. She is also survived by her sisters, Jennie Gorcak (George), Agnes Parry (Glyn) and Ethel Dobek (John); sister-in-law Stella Mraz; and numerous nieces and nephews. Louise was born in Coleman, Alberta on June 21, 1914. She married Joseph John Kuran and together in love they raised their family, the joy of Louise's life. The constant sacrifices throughout her life for those she so dearly loved were to become for us, her family, the essence of Christianity lived through a woman of hospitality, generosity, warmth and humour. Louise was predeceased by Joseph, her beloved husband of thirty-five years, her daughter Amelia, her brother Steve Mraz and her son-in-law Tony Hauck. In early childhood, she lost her dad Joseph Mraz, and later, her mother Johnanna, both of whom she remembered to the end as precious and treasured. Louise joined the Catholic Women's League, Holy Spirit Council in Coleman and received her fifty year pin while a member of the Holy Name Council in Calgary. MORASCH -- Emanuel, beloved husband of Mrs. Esther Morasch of Calgary, passed away at the Foothills Hospital on January 30, 1998 at the age of 84 years. Known to his family and friends at "Pat". Pat will be fondly remembered by his wife Esther; son Stan; daughter Pamela; grandson Tim; sister Lena McKinstry; and nephew George. Born and raised in Calgary, Pat spent his early work years on the farm, but most of his work life in various aspects of the house building business. The ten years before his retirement he worked as a carpenter for the Calgary Board of Education. Over the following thirteen years, Pat and Esther were able to travel and enjoy life to the fullest. The years after his stroke were difficult, but he never lost his vitality and perpetual optimism. Pat will always be remembered for his generosity, zest for life and love of family. BALDWIN -- George Eldon, passed away of natural causes on Sunday, February 01, 1998 at the age of 92 years. He ws born on December 27, 1905 in Rockyview Alberta . George is survived by a son Douglas of Sherwood Park, Alberta; and a daughter Deena Brown of Calgary, Alberta; a sister Norma Nichol of Calgary; and a brother Archie, also of Calgary. He was preceded in death by two brothers, Leonard and Fred, and by a sister Doris Alstott. George spent the majority of his life in and around the Calgary area prior to moving to Wildwood in 1975. CHAHAL -- Hargobind Singh Chahal, aged 95 years, passed away January 30, 1998 at his residence after a long illness. Mr. Chahal was born in Punjab, India. He has three sons, Ram Narain Singh Chahal (Gurdeep Kaur) of Calgary, Ram Ranjit Singh Chahal (Kamaljit Kaur) of Missisauga, Ontario, And Ram Raghbir Singh Chahal (Surinder Kaur) of Calgary. Mr. Chahal has five daughters, Harbans Kaur Sihota (Malkiat Singh Sihota), of Calgary, Gian Kaur Kang (Malkit Singh Kang) of Surrey, B.C., and Harcharan Kaur Basi (Harpal Singh Basi), Nashatar Kaur Basra (Narinder Singh Basra) and Gurwinder Kaur Hundal (Satvinder Singh Hundal) all of Calgary. He is also survived by his elder sister, Amrit Kaur Deol of Brampton, Ontario; and many grand children and great-grandchildren. Mr Chahal was predeceased by his wife Udhan Kaur on September 4, 1984. DION -- Vernon Floyd Dion of Hobbema passed away on February 2, 1998 at the age of 55 years. Vernon received his bachelor of arts degree in education at the University of Calgary. Beside teaching he was a talented musician. He also enjoyed being a cowboy and a comedian with family and friends. There was also the serious side of Vernon as a businessman and being active in the community as a former counsellor. Vernon will be missed by his wife Valerie of Calgary, his nine children, Fabion North Peigan of Brocket, Deborah Dion, Dean Dion, Tanya Dion, Jonathon Dion, Carla Dion, Clayton Dion, all of Hobbema, Amber Many Guns of Siksika and Kaitlin Dion of Calgary; nine grandchildren; brothers and sisters, Ivy Raine (Louie), Pauline Doore (Clement), Virgina Buffalo (John), Gloria Baptiste and Sharon Cardinal (Allan) and numerous aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, family and friends. Vernon was predeceased by a granddaughter, his parents Daniel and Agnes and grandparents Joe (Sarah) Buffalo and John (Sophie) Samson.
