Mom was a very quiet, loving, caring but private person, who dearly loved her children and grandchildren. She was always knitting something for one of her children or grandchildren. Her favourite spot was her rocking chair in the kitchen. She loved her flowers, especially her rose bush, which grew profusely year after year. She enjoyed reading and watching her game shows on TV, her favorite being “The Price is Right”. She enjoyed baking just to have something on hand in case any one of us would show up, even though she could not eat it because of her diabetes.
She never asked for much, never complained and was always so giving.
Mom was born and raised in Michigan and immigrated to Canada with her first husband, Joe Cote (Susan’s father) in 1947, living in Wandering River, AB. She divorced in 1949 and remarried in 1950 to Harold Webber the father of Cindy, Greg, Candy and Judy .After divorcing Harold she moved to Drumheller with Homer LeBlanc in 1957 and had three more children; Paul, Leonard and Archie. They moved to Newcastle in 1959 where she resided until her death on April 6, 2007 following four heart attacks within two weeks at the hospital. She had prior heart and diabetes problems. She was very determined and fought a hard battle to stay with us. She will always be remembered and missed very much by all who knew her.
The family would like to thank the staff of the Drumheller Hospital Acute Care Unit for all of their care and attention. Her wish was to be cremated. There will be an informal gathering to celebrate her life at Courtney-Winters Funeral Chapel Monday, April 16, 2007 at 11:00 a.m. with lunch to follow. In lieu of flowers, donations in Mom’s memory may be made to the Heart & Stroke Foundation, the Diabetes Association, or a charity of your choice.
GELLEIN -- Kora Rae 1979 - 2007
It is with great sorrow that the Gellein family announces the passing of Kora. On April 10, 2007, her battle with drug addiction ended. Kora struggled for years, and endured many hardships during her short time here on earth. Her artistic talents brought joy to those close to her. This poem written by Kora many years ago, reflects her inner conflict with life.
Death Personified
by Kora Rae Gellein
Kiss me softly, oh sweet death
With cold blue lips of ice
My body lay upon the snow
To you a sacrifice
Take me now, I beg of you
Amid this bitter night
Free me from the melancholy
That hath become my life
Efface me with your touch of stone
Rid me of sorrow and plight
Oh, I belong to you now, death
No longer shall I fight
Cover me in your blackened shroud
Blind me from all I’ve seen
So that I may rest eternally
Unaware of what has been.
“We will always love you, Kora”
