BUSSARD, Lee April 2, 1957 - October 31, 1999 Lee Bussard, born in Wetaskiwin, Alberta, the oldest son of Joyce and Harold Bussard, died Sunday at Providence Hospital in Seattle, Wash. after a short illness. Lee spent the last 18 years teaching motivation, change and opportunity to over one million people. Lee's humour and grace have charmed, challenged, inspired and informed his audiences, which have included public school students throughout North America, corporate giants like Boeing and government agencies such as the Pentagon. Lee was a charismatic motivational speaker whose message "More Alike than Different" inspired and entertained thousands of people around the world. His autobiography also entitled "More Alike Than Different" was published in 1997 and quickly became a favourite of those who had heard him speak. Lee led a very full and productive life. He grew up on a farm southeast of Wetaskiwin where he spent many years of his life. His family and friends there share many special memories of a fun, energetic and humourous individual. Always with a joke to tell, he made everyone he met feel comfortable and quickly at ease. Although Lee was born with Cerebral Palsy, he received his education in the public schools in Wetaskiwin and was actively involved in the community there. Lee has spent the last 10 years in Seattle with his family. Although Lee has died at the young age of 42, he was able to do what he loved to do best — tell the thousands of people he met and spoke to each year his message. He gave them inspiration and in many cases vision and hope. Honours bestowed upon Lee include the Lions Club International Hall of Fame; Rotary International's Paul Harris Fellowship, the Federation of Christians and Jews Humanitarian Award, and the Canadian Jaycees "Outstanding Young Canadian Award." In 1981 his hometown of Wetaskiwin named Lee its "Citizen of the Year." While Lee was honoured at the recognition bestowed upon him, he always felt that the highest honour he could receive was the love and loyalty of his family and friends. Lee is survived by his wife Pat; his daughters Erin and Andrea; his mother Joyce and uncle Glen Bussard; sister Brenda and husband Wayne Curry and children Kelee and Makani; sister Patricia and husband Patrick O'Connell and children Dege and Pali; brother Gerry and wife Tracy Bussard and children Ryan, Rhianna and Jordan; sister Lorrene and husband Keith Thiessen and children Katelyn and Kindren.
