KNOWLTON, Jonathan
February 22, 1937 - August 19, 2004
Artist Retired professor of Fine Art, University of Alberta, passed away on August 19, 2004, in his 67th year. He will be sadly missed by his son Christopher and wife Lisette (Aspen, CO), daughter Katherine and husband Matthew Soares (Boston, MA), granddaughter Natalia (Edmonton, AB), brother Eben (New York, NY), and stepmother Helen Foote Knowlton (Falls Village, CT). Jonathan graduated from Yale University with a bachelor of fine arts degree and received his master of fine arts degree from Berkeley University. He received a Fulbright grant to study painting and printmaking in Paris and was hired to establish the printmaking department at the University of Alberta in 1966. His instruction in painting and drawing was an inspiration to many of his students. From 1970-71 he studied sculpture in Florence, Italy under a Canada Council grant. He was awarded a series of University research grants from 1977-89. His paintings, watercolours, and prints are included in the permanent collections of major museums, academic institutions, and corporations across Canada and the US including MOMA (NYC), Los Angeles County Museum, Palace of the Legion of Honor (San Francisco), MFA (Montreal), Victoria and Albert Museum (London), Government of Alberta: Culture, Visual Arts and Social Services Branch, University of Art Museum (Berkeley), University of Alberta Art Gallery, Alberta Art Foundation, the Edmonton Art Gallery, Petro Canada, Syncrude, and Imperial Oil. He continued painting until his death. The loyalty and support of his friends and family in Canada and The United States was greatly appreciated by Jonathan. The family would like to thank Andy Sims, Barry Gardiner, Maurice de la Salle and the staff and physicians of the Misercordia Hospital for their exceptional care and kindness. In lieu of flowers, donations in Jonathan's memory may be sent to the Canadian Mental Health Association, Suite 328, 9707 - 110 Street, Edmonton, Alberta, T5K 2L9. A memorial service will be held at 1:00 PM Thursday, September 2nd at Holy Trinity Anglican Church, at 10037 - 84th Avenue. KOCHANOWSKI, Peter
On August 31, 2004 Peter Kochanowski of Edmonton passed away at the age of 83 years. Peter is survived by his loving wife of 50 years, Mary; children, Sue, Pat (Roman), Chris (Tom), Alan (Cheryl), Brian; 6 grandchildren, one great-granddaughter; one sister in Poland and many nieces and nephews. Peter was predeceased by his parents and his sister. A Funeral Service will be held at 10:00 am Thursday, September 2, 2004 at the Evergreen Funeral Chapel 16204 Fort Road, Edmonton. On August 6, 2004, Henrietta Martin of Edmonton passed away at the age of 79 years. Henrietta is survived by her daughter: Elaine Smyth of Ireland and sons: Michael and Christopher Martin. McARTER, Caroline Clara
March 5, 1947 - August 28, 2004
We are sad to announce the passing of Carol McArter of Edmonton on August 28, 2004. Carol is survived by her five children: Terry (Linda), Dean (Misty), Dennis (Sonia), Todd (Debbie) and Holly (Al); eleven grandchildren; her loving mother Patricia Kellogg (Jack); two sisters: Patsy (Lloyd) and Hilda; one brother Westley (Kathy) as well as many family members and friends. Friends and relatives are invited to pay their respects on Thursday, September 2 at 7:00 p.m. at Parkland Funeral Chapel, 3502-44 Avenue, Stony Plain. A Funeral Service will be held on Friday, September 3 at 2:00 p.m. from St. John's Anglican Church, Onoway with Reverend Chris Pappas officiating. Cremation to follow. Douglas E. Etherington passed away September 2, 2004 at the age of 45 years. Douglas is survived by his loving wife Cherri-Ann; daughter Sabrina, sons; Douglas and Kyle, by his Mom Catherine (Terry). FOSTER, Caroline
On September 2, 2004 Mrs. Caroline Foster of Edmonton passed away peacefully at the age of 84. She is lovingly remembered and missed by her husband Charles, three daughters; Bernice (Lou) Maisonneuve, Evelyn (James) Kozoway and Alice Robinson, 13 grandchildren, 17 great-grandchildren, 5 sisters; Helen, Millie, Sally, Adele and Rose as well as numerous nephews, nieces and friends.Caroline was predeceased by her son Jim Foster, two brothers Lewis Kolodychuk and Carl Kolodychuk. FRANKLIN, Luke
On September 3, 2004 Luke's life was tragically cut short at the age of 18 in a motor vehicle accident near Rocky Mountain House. Luke is lovingly remembered by his father Chris, mother Linda and particularly his brother Mark, his grandparents Bob and Pauline, all of his family and his many friends. GALIPEAU, Ivy
passed away in Victoria, B.C. on September 4, 2004. Born in New Tredger, Wales on May 7, 1921. She is lovingly remembered by her husband of 63 years, John; son Brian (Jo); grandchildren Denise, Rhonda, Jennifer and Andrew; sister Bette Harvey; brother Jack (Ella) Davies; numerous nieces and nephews across the country. Ivy moved to Canada in 1927 and settled in Armstrong, B.C. She met her husband John in Nanaimo in 1940. After WWII they lived in Alberta and retired to Victoria in 1985. Ivy was a loving and caring wife, mother, grandmother and friend. Her memory will be cherished in the hearts of all those whose lives she touched. Memorial service will be held in Sands Funeral Chapel, 1803 Quadra Street on Thursday, September 9, 2004 at 11:00 a.m. followed by a reception in Sands Arbor Reception Center. Inurnment to follow at Hatley Memorial Gardens. Friends who wish may make donations in memory of Ivy to the Alzheimer's Resource Center, 2571 "A" Quadra Street, Victoria, BC V8T 4E1. Arrangements entrusted to Sands of Victoria.
