It is with deep sorrow and sadness that we say goodbye to Corky, dad, husband and father. Corky passed away peacefully at the Edmonton General Hospital in Alberta with his family at his side after a short and courageous battle with cancer.
Corky was born in Eston, SK and later moved to Nipawin, SK where he met his wife Eleanor of 42 years. He attended the University of Saskatchewan in Saskatoon where he graduated with a Bachelor of Science in Pharmacy. Corky and his family moved to Prince George, B.C. in the early 1970’s where he bought his first drug store on the Hart Highway (Hart Drug Mart). He loved flying with his long-time friend Dr. John McKeller, fly fishing, skiing in Jasper and golfing. He loved the finer things in life. But his biggest love was his three girls the delights of his life.

Ronald Kykkanen, of Fort St. John, BC

KYKKANEN: Ronald Kykkanen of Fort St. John, BC passed away September 17, 2004 at Edam, Sask. at the age of 65. He was born to Thomas & Eileen Kykkanen on December 15, 1948. Ron was the 4th of 9 children. Ron attended his early school years at the Dexter Schoolhouse and then later in Livelong.
Ron’s first job was with Border Trucking as a swamper. From there he went to work for Sedco Drilling, Husky Oil and then Border Drilling, where he stayed until the late 1980’s. He started at Border Drilling as a driller and was promoted to tool push before he went to work with Jade Drilling. After he left Jade Drilling, Ron worked in Fort St. John at various jobs until his passing.
Ron loved spending time at Turtle Lake. He enjoyed berry picking, hunting, playing pool and shuffleboard. As a father, he loved taking his boys out fishing and making sure that they got the most out of the motorized toys he bought them.
You could always tell when Dad was home from working the rigs because the smell of fresh buns was in the air. He certainly knew his way around the kitchen whether it was cooking, canning or baking and he passed this enjoyment on to his sons.
Dad also like to run heavy machinery from cats to dozers to backhoes, but one truck called the honey wagon always seemed to give him indigestion.
Dad loved attending auctions. He was happiest when he was bidding on something. He usually came home with a trunk load full of goodies or treasures, like a six-wheeled argo or canvas covered canoe. This love for auctions was a huge part of his becoming a packrat and saving everything he came in contact with.
Ron is predeceased by: his brother, Bobby, in 1967; his father Tom, in 1971; and his stepfather, Paul, in 2000.
Ron is survived by: his sons, Keith (Laurie) of Lloydminster, AB, Kris (Joann) and their son Jari of Edmonton, AB, Kelly of Calgary, AB; his mother, Eileen of St. Walburg, SK; his brothers, Ted (Marilyn) of Fort St. John, BC, Wayne (Lisa) of Turtle Lake, SK, Barry (Terry) of Meadow Lake, SK, and Tom of Turtle Lake, SK; his sisters, Betty (Terry) Burton of Lloydminster, AB, Anne Kykkanen of Lloydminster, AB and Cindy (Steven) Nasby of Spruce Lake, SK; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Memorial Services for the late Ronald Kykkanen were held on Saturday, September 18, 2004 at 2:00 p.m. from the Catholic Church of the Assumption in St. Walburg, Sask. with Rev. Fr. Richard Doll officiating.
Honorary bearers were all of Ronald’s family and friends.
The eulogy was given by Terry Burton.
The interment followed in the Roman Catholic Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the charity of the donor’s choice.
Marshall’s Funeral Home Ltd. of St. Walburg, Sask. was in care of the arrangements.
