2004-08-11 - Billie Bolduc, of Lethbridge

Billie Bolduc of Lethbridge passed away at the Lethbridge Regional Hospital on Aug. 11, at the age of 87.

He will be greatly missed by his children; Doug (Wendy) Bolduc, Marie (Glenn) Logan; his grandchildren, Tegre Bolduc, Doug (Heather) Logan, Tamara Logan, and great grandchildren Hannah, Hailey, and Samuel Logan.

Billie will also be missed by his sister-in-law Alice Bolduc and his nieces and nephews. Billie was predeceased by his wife Ethel, granddaughter Jillian Bolduc, and brother Floyd Bolduc.

Billie, second son of Medus and Katie, was born at Barrhill on Apr. 4, 1917. The family moved in 1918 to the Travers area. He purchased his first registered Herefords in 1940. Billie married Ethel Hanna at Saint Augustine’s Anglican Church in Lethbridge on Oct. 23, 1948.

He was a knowledgeable horseman, cattleman, and farmer. Wheatcrest Farms sold cattle to many provinces, the United States, and Russia. In 1971, the farm imported their first Limousin cow from France. Billie and Ethel traveled many miles attending cattle shows and sales, making many friends during these trips.

Billie liked the 4-H program and was involved both as a parent and a leader. Billie and Ethel were recognized as friends of 4-H. He was also a member of the Lomond Lions Club and a director of the Lomond Rural Electrification Association.

In 1980, Billie and Ethel moved from their farm south of Lomond to their farm beside Lake McGregor. In 1996, they moved to Rio Vista Condos at Lethbridge. The family will always remember how they also liked to travel. The grandchildren have fond memories of the many trips in the motorhome to 4-H camps, to sports events, or just to go for a drive to some place they hadn’t been before.

Billie will be missed by his family and friends as he always had time to visit, tell stories about the history of the area, play cards, go for drives, and buy cookies for the great granddaughters.

A Memorial Service was held at Saint Augustine’s Church, 411-11 St. South, Lethbridge, Alta., on Aug. 16, at 2 p.m.

In lieu of flowers, a donation in Billie’s memory may be made to the 4-H Foundation of Alberta, RR1 Westerose, Alta., T0C 2V0.

2004-08-11 - Bertha Margaret Plourd nee: Fleming, of Carmangay

BERTHA MARGARET (nee FLEMING) PLOURD passed away peacefully at the Vulcan Health Center on Aug. 11, at the age of 85.

Bertha was born on the family farm at Champion, on June 6, 1919 to Fredrick and Edna Fleming. Bertha married Hubert Paul Plourd on Nov. 25, 1942, and they shared 55 years of dedication and love together.

Bertha was known for her superb meals. She ran the Carmangay Hotel Restaurant for several years with a dear friend, Rosie Yanosik.

Bertha then worked in the Vulcan Hospital dietary department, leaving there to work in dietary at the Carmangay Little Bow Hospital. Bertha went to SAIT and received her dietician's certificate and eventually took over the dietary department at the Little Bow Hospital and continued to produce great meals for staff and patients alike for close to 20 years.

Bertha was predeceased by her husband, Hubert Paul Plourd; her daughter Gayle; and her sisters Sarah, Edith, Marion and Edna. She is survived by her four children, Evelyne (Jack) Adams of Chilliwack, B.C., Bill (Linda) Plourd of Cranbrook, B.C., Gaye (Ron) Just of Picture Butte, and Mary (Barry) McFarland of Carmangay; her grandchildren, Terry Adams of Chilliwack, B.C., Tina (Miki) Lund of Cranbrook, B.C., Sharon (Wayne) Robinson of Chilliwack, B.C., Todd Plourd of Calgary, Troy (Terri) Plourd of Oshawa, Ont., April Leigh (Dale) Shular of Golden, B.C., Denise (Mark) Moore of Carmangay, Danny Just of Carmangay, Daryle (Emily) Just of Mahtomedi, Minn., Ryan (Leslie Parsons) McFarland of Calgary, Sean McFarland of Carmangay, Shara McFarland of Lethbridge, and Patrick McFarland of Lethbridge; 23 great-grandchildren; 7 great-great-grandchildren; brother Fred (Rena) Fleming of Champion; sister Irene Durell of Calgary; sister-in-law Rosela (Eddie) Petit of Rosedale, B.C.; and brother-in-law Louis (Ruth) Plourd of Lethbridge; as well as numerous nieces and nephews and their families.

A Memorial Service was held on Aug. 14 at the CARMANGAY UNITED CHURCH, with Reverend Sue MacDonald officiating.

2004-08-13 - Frank T. Fletcher, of Vulcan

It is with great sadness that we the family of Frank T. Fletcher (F.T.F.) announce his leaving us on Aug. 13, at the Vulcan Community Health Centre to join his beloved wife Madeline, granddaughter Deborah, four brothers, four sisters and his parents in the heavens above.

Frank was born in Weston, Ore. on Aug. 16, 1905. As a small boy he came with his parents and grandparents to the Brant district where they homesteaded in 1905. He was the eldest son of 12 children. Frank eloped with Madeline Macklim on July 3, 1926. He continued working the family farm and contributed to the betterment of the Brant community. Frank retired from the farm, to Vulcan in 1964 and became involved in building the Vulcan Golf Course. In 1976, he was awarded a life membership and he served as President for 1978 and 1979. Frank was also a member of the Vulcan Elks Lodge for over 70 years. Frank and Madeline celebrated their 60th anniversary in 1986. Madeline’s life was ended in a car accident on May 5, 1991.

Frank loved all sports. His favorites were baseball, curling and golf. Frank was the captain of the Home Hardware golf team and golfed until he was 93 years. Frank drove his car until he was 97 years when he left his home to go to the Peter Dawson Lodge.

Frank had a tremendous memory of olden days and a keen interest in following current world news and sports on television. He always remembered the family’s special dates, especially birthdays and anniversaries, and always got a gift for each member. Frank had a passion for cards and loved a good crib game. He enjoyed cooking, completed with dessert, for all family and guests. He also did all the household work. Frank could fix or build anything which included all electrical and plumbing work, he was a true ‘Fix It Man’.

Above all was his love for his family. Shirley (John) Wolfe of Vulcan, Allan (Shirley) Fletcher of High River, Fay (Einar) Sorley of Calgary, Doug (Iris) Fletcher of Claresholm and his 10 grandchildren, Randy (Rachel) Wolfe, Jan Laree (Tim) Pedersen, Ryan (Stacey) Wolfe, ZoeAnn Nelson, Kevin (Bev) Sorley, Brian (Sheila) Sorley, Glen (Tammy) Sorley, Trisha (Peter) Gibson, Stacy (Rob) Kelly, Cody (Beth) Fletcher, 18 great grandchildren and a great great grandson, a brother Cliff, two sisters Bettie and Norma, numerous nieces and nephews and many friends.

He has left us with an abundance of happy memories and we will miss him.

Funeral service for Frank was held Aug. 17, 2004 at the Chapel of Mountain View Funeral Home, 17th Ave., Calgary at 2 p.m. with Rev. Don Watt officiating.

Honourary Bearers were all who shared in Frank’s life.

Casket Bearers were Kevin Sorley, Brian Sorley, Glen Sorley, Ryan Wolfe, Tyler Wolfe and Cody Fletcher.

Interment followed in the family plot in Mountain View Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, tributes in Frank’s memory can be made to the Vulcan Golf & Country Club "new nine" P.O. Box 426, Vulcan T0L 2B0.

2004-08-18 - Rosa Lever nee: Cristofolini, of Lethbridge

Rosa Lever passed away Aug. 18 in Lethbridge at the age of 82 after a brief illness.

Rosa was born in Vigo Cavedine, Trento, Italy on June 1, 1922 to Virginio and Carlotta Cristofolini. She was married to Angelo Lever in 1942. Seeking a better future for their family, Angelo emigrated to Canada in 1952 and in 1953 Rosa and their three children joined him in the Champion area. Following the death of her husband in 1983, Rosa relocated to Lethbridge.

Her love of family was first and foremost and she will be dearly missed by her two daughters Carla Erdman of Lethbridge, Rita (Ron) Gaida of Hanna, two sons Greg (Eunice) of Airdrie, Walter (Pat) of Kelowna, B.C., 10 grandchildren Lee (Brad), Stephen (Viv) and Laura Erdman; Bradley (Tanya), Suzanne, Richard and James Gaida; Chris (Dianne) Lever; Angela (Chris) Kuefler; Brendan (Tanja) Brabender and six great grandchildren. She is also survived by a brother Federico (Dosolina) Cristofolini, a sister-in-law Giuseppina Patton, numerous nieces and nephews in Italy.

Rosa was predeceased by her husband Angelo, a grandson Craig Lever and three brothers Angelo, Gerardo and Albino Cristofolini.

Mass of a Christian burial was held Aug. 23 at 11 a.m. at St. Mary’s Catholic Church, Champion with Rev. Fr. Benedicto Marino officiating.

Casket bearers were Rosa’s grandchildren.

Interment Champion Catholic Cemetery.

Everett George "Tom" Beckner, beloved husband of June, passed away peacefully in Vulcan on Aug. 30, at the age of 89.

Tom also leaves to mourn; his daughters Bettie Orchard of Calgary, Bonnie (Tom) Bateman of Lethbridge, a daughter-in-law Sandra Beckner-Pizzingrilli (Lou) of Lethbridge, seven grandchildren Mark (Heide) Orchard of Blackie, Kelly (Kerry) Orchard of Calgary, Steve (Linda) Bateman of Lethbridge, Ron (Jackie) Bateman of Banff, Janet (Shane) Vader of Sherwood Park, Chris Beckner of Calgary, Carrie (Calley) Erickson of Lethbridge, 11 great grandchildren, a sister Doris (Ken) McLean of Vulcan, a brother Ray (Frieda) Beckner of Bow Island, a sister-in-law Ruby Beckner of Calgary, four brothers-in-law Larry (Arthena) Fleming of Calgary, Jim (Myrna) Fleming of Lethbridge, Peter (Maureen) Fleming of Hillspring, Eldon Fleming of Calgary, numerous nieces and nephews and many friends.

Tom was born in Queenstown, Alta., the fifth of seven children. He received his education at Lake McGregor Rural School and Milo High School and stayed in the community until 1940 when he married. Tom and his young bride, June Hatch, moved to Calgary where he worked various jobs. He was an army veteran of WWII. After the war, they bought and operated the family farm for 20 years.

They retired to Calgary, then moved back to Milo. In 2000, they moved to the Peter Dawson Lodge. Tom and June would have celebrated their 64th wedding anniversary on Aug 31. Tom was a life member of the B.P.O. Elks Lodge and a member of the Royal Canadian Legion. He was a fun-loving and enthusiastic participant in many community organizations and activities. In his younger years Tom enjoyed a variety of sporting activities and was a minor sports coach, umpire and referee. He enjoyed curling, camping, fishing and hunting. Tom’s love for people was evidenced by his ability to remember names and faces for years and his pleasure in visiting old friends. He will be ever remembered for his colorful one-liners and feisty but warm personality.

Tom was predeceased by his beloved son Cliff, his parents Ruth and Erastus Beckner, three brothers Bud, Tooke (Marj), Bill (Bettie) and a sister Dorothy (Raymond) Jones.

Funeral Services were held Sept. 6, at the Milo Community Hall at 1:30 p.m. with Pastor Steve Bateman officiating.

Casket Bearers Mark Orchard, Kelly Orchard, Ron Bateman, Shane Vader, Chris Beckner, Calley Erickson.

Honour Guard members of the Royal Canadian Legion Branch #21 Vulcan with padre Rev. Doug Barrie and bugler Neil Northcott.

2004-10-07 - Hilde Jene Sealock, of Vulcan

Hilda Jene "Jean" Sealock of Vulcan passed away Oct. 7 at the Vulcan Community Health Centre at the age of 79.

Jean was born in Ashcroft, B.C. Dec. 27, 1924 to Joseph Smith and Violet Ella (Lyne) Place. She grew up on a ranch and received her education in Dog Creek, B.C.

Jean married Charles Harrison Sealock, an airman in the airman’s canteen at the 11th staging unit of the Royal Canadian Air Force, in Dog Creek on Mar. 17, 1944. Due to Charlie’s many job locations, they moved around Canada many times.

They moved to Vulcan in 1972 where Jean continued to reside until her death.

Jean loved her family and their times together. She also enjoyed needle work, knitting, cooking, television soap operas and reading. Jean was an active associate member of the Royal Canadian Legion No.21 Vulcan where she enjoyed the comradeship and helping with different events.

Jean is survived by her loving husband of sixty years, Charlie of Vulcan, three daughters; Jeanette Lancaster of Dartmouth, N.S., Linda (Wayne) Peckham of Cape Breton and Bev (Randy) Schumacher of Calgary, nine grandchildren, four great grandchildren, three sisters; Kay (Albert) Patenaude of Merritt, B.C. Mildred Olson of Canim Lake, B.C. and Joyce (Morley) Shaw of Bowden, as well as numerous nieces and nephews.

She was predeceased by her parents, an infant daughter, a brother Harold and his wife Betty Place, a son-in-law Terry Lancaster and a brother-in-law Walter Olson.

Memorial service was held on Oct. 12, at 1 p.m. at the Vulcan Legion Hall with Padre Doug Barrie officiating.

Inurement to follow at the Field of Honour, Vulcan Cemetery.

2004-10-13 - Raymond Basil Gerding, of Calgary

It is with great sorrow that we announce the passing of Raymond Basil Gerding, at Southwood Nursing Home, on Oct. 13, at the age of 89.

He is survived by his daughter Barbara (Bill) Quirk, and grandsons James (Susan) Quirk and Robert Quirk; sisters Norma (Nathan) O’Hare and Margaret (Louis) Shaw; and brothers Bob Gerding and Arnold (Frances) Gerding.

Raymond was predeceased by his wife Dora, parents Joseph and Anna, brothers Cecil and Joe Jr., and sister Eileen Hanchuk.

Prayers was held at St. Cecelia Catholic Church, 321 - 90 Ave. SE, Calgary, on Oct. 17 at 7:30 p.m. Funeral Mass was celebrated at St. Cecelia Catholic Church on Oct. 18 at 10:30 a.m.
