STAINTHORPE, Florence (nee Bailey)

It is with great sadness that the family wishes to announce the passing of our beloved mother and grandmother, Florence, at the Foothills Hospital, Calgary. She leaves to cherish her memory her son Ron and daughter-in-law Janice, grandsons Brent and fiance Sarah, Mark and wife Carrie (Calgary AB), brother Tom Bailey (Vancouver BC), sisters Ruth (Roy) Fleming (Penticton BC), Betty Cochrane (Birtle MB), Norma ( Tom) Macri (Winnipeg MB), sister-in-law Hazel Hatton (Hamiota MB). Also left to remember Auntie Florence are many nieces and nephews, great-nieces and -nephews, and countless dear friends. Florence was pre- deceased by her husband Raymond, her parents, brothers Lawrence, Jack and Bert, and sister Mildred Campbell. Born on July 9, 1914, Florence was the eldest living member of a family of nine. She grew up on the family farm at Decker MB where her parents provided warm and caring support. After completing school she worked in the local post office. In 1937, she married Raymond Stainthorpe and they established a farm home at Melita MB. During the Second World War, Ray joined the RCAF and they were stationed in Winnipeg. Ray passed away suddenly in 1952, and Florence continued to reside on the farm. She was an active member of Melita UCW and also of the Melita Legion Auxiliary. In 1981 she moved to Red Deer, and later to Calgary, to be close to family. She will be missed by many good friends at Aspen Lodge, Calgary where she had made her home. Florence's great passion was family and friends and she continued to keep in touch, even as the extended family grew. Despite many years of poor health, she was a strong and courageous person, always putting the concerns and needs of others before her own. She will be sadly missed but forever remembered by all who were close to her. Funeral services will be held at Melita United Church at 2 p.m. November 8, officiated by Rev. Richard Cooke, with interment beside her beloved husband in Melita Cemetery. The family would like to thank the doctors and staff at Crowfoot Village Family Practice and the doctors, nurses and staff of Unit 61 of the Foothills Hospital in Calgary. They especially want to thank her niece Lynne Teshima, who provided so much care and support in the past few years. In lieu of flowers, should friends desire, donations in memory of Florence may be made to any Heart Fund.
