McNAUGHT
Roy Blaser McNaught of Bentley passed away in the Red Deer Regional Hospital on November 4, 2002 at the age of 85 years. Roy was born to Robert and Lena McNaught on May 1, 1917 in Shelby, Montana. When Roy was young, the family moved to Shaunavon, Saskatchewan. Roy's mother and siblings had migrated to the Bentley area in the 1930's and so, following his service in the Canadian Army during WW2, Roy joined them. There he met Mary Giesbrecht, and on January 8, 1946 they were wed. The couple bought and kept their farm near Bentley for 50 plus years. During that time, Roy was always busy, and he became well-known and respected in the community. He worked with the horses and the kids in the Blindman Valley Musical Ride group and in the Sunset Hills Riding Club, he was a member of the Rainy Creek Telephone Co., and he helped organize the Bentley Town and Country Fair. Roy's windmill graces the front lawn of the Bentley Museum and the McNaught house is home to trophies and plaques that Roy (somehow!) acquired in decades of league bowling. He chaired the Bentley Community Hall Board for 15 years, was an active lifetime member of the Royal Canadian Legion and he still made time to donate over two decades toward canvassing for the Alberta Heart and Stroke Foundation. Thanks for everything Dad! Roy will always be cherished by his wife Mary and by his four daughters; Sheryl (Bruce) Boyes of Bluffton, Merle (Claude) Diot of Sylvan Lake, Colleen McNaught of Bentley and Janice (Kent) Cadman of Bentley. He'll always be "Grampa" to Rick (Karen) Boyes of Bluffton, Tammy Boyes of Edmonton, Andrea and Vincent Diot both of Calgary, and Jodi and Jessie Cadman both of Bentley. Also Tori, ShaeLyn and Christina Boyes will be saying goodbyes to their Great Grandpa. Roy also leaves to mourn two brothers-in-law, Abe Giesbrecht and Walter Kirsch, numerous nieces and nephews and their families, as well as a community of friends. He was predeceased by his brother Charlie and his sisters Rose and Jean. Funeral services will be held in the Bentley Community Hall on Friday, November 8, 2002 at 2:00 p.m. with Rev. Frank Lough officiating. Interment will follow in the Bentley Cemetery.
