MacGregor, Gordon A.
Gordon A. MacGregor passed away peacefully at his home in Red Deer with his beloved wife Jeanie at his side on Tuesday May 27, 2003. Gordon was born October 19, 1918 at home near Cadillac, Sask. where he attended Beaver Valley School. After too many dry years the family left the prairies, traveling by horse and wagon to Peace River where they farmed and established a small market garden. He left there at an early age and found work in Bentley driving tanker trucks to and from Turner Valley. When war was declared in 1939 Gordon joined the army and served overseas in Britain, France and Belgium. After five years of service he was discharged in 1945. Gordon settled in Calgary where he was united in marriage to Jeanie Larsen. The next ten years were spent in the oil exploration business in Alberta and Saskatchewan. He left his work to settle permanently in Red Deer where he began as a car salesman for Hepworth Motors. He later joined the staff of Botterill McKee Anderson Real Estate and worked there until his retirement. After a few years of golf and extended camping trips he and his wife Jeanie served a one year mission in NAUVOO, Ill. for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints. Gordon's father taught him much about carpentry and gardening. He was meticulous about keeping his tools and equipment in good repair, if necessary making his own parts. Neighbours called him Mr. Fix-It. He was happiest in his shop in the garage which he built himself. Gordon received his mechanical training in the army. He preformed all the maintenance and repair of the vehicles, even to the extent of tearing down the motor of the van and reassembling it. The yard received most of his attention in the summer. He designed his own special bricks for the borders of the flower beds and took great pleasure in watering and trimming Jeanie's flowers. Gordon was lovingly cared for by many wonderful home care workers in the last few weeks of his life. Predeceased by his parents, one sister Lyla Foley and one brother Albert MacGregor, Gordon is survived by his wife Jeanie, daughter Sharon Cotter (Brain), grandson Grant Cotter, great grandsons Tyler and Jessie Cotter, sister Gladys Robinson, sisters-in-law Meta MacGregor, Edna Larsen and brother-in-law Charles Larsen as well as many nieces and nephews.
