MOLOY Murray Bruce
On March 12th, 2007 our dear father and grandfather went to be with the Lord after a courageous battle with cancer. He passed away peacefully with his family nearby at the Red Deer Regional Hospital Centre. Murray was born to a farm family near Forest, Ontario on July 22nd, 1929. He married his wife Betty (Bonnell) on February 16th, 1951. Betty predeceased Murray on August 9th, 2006. He is lovingly remembered by his children, Jody Todd, Kathy Rideout, Jill Moloy, Laren Moloy and their families. The passion in his life were his eight grandchildren - Eryn, Brody, Shelby, Meghan, Malory, Drew, Cullen and Eamon, as well as his great grandson Sawyer. He is also survived by his brother Bob and sister Pat of Sarnia, Ontario. Murray, Betty, and their four young children left their families and friends in Eastern Canada to settle in Central Alberta in 1961. Murray's working life was built around farming and farm machinery. In the early 1970's he co-founded Versaline Farm Center which became a leading dealership for Versatile machinery. Murray developed dealerships in Red Deer, Olds, and Rimbey. In the early 1980's Murray established Moloy Farms, a substantial registered Polled Hereford purebred cattle business with operations at Joffre and later Sylvan Lake. He was active in farm machinery associations and was president of The Farm Equipment Dealers Association of Alberta and British Columbia, presiding over a large western Canadian convention held in Vancouver in 1978. In Alberta, Murray was instrumental in establishing the Farm Machinery Act which protected the rights of farm machinery dealers across the province. He was active in the Red Deer Chamber of Commerce in the 80's and was president of the Chamber when it became a founding partner and pioneer of Red Deer's Agri-Trade Farm Show. He has been a member of the downtown Rotary Club, Red Deer Branch of the Canadian Legion, working on poppy campaigns, and was a general community worker for over 40 years. Later in life Murray pursued woodworking, horticultural interests, and family activities. Murray's love of small business and hard work led him to get involved in ongoing gardening and lawncare projects. Murray's farm roots never left him and over recent years he has been an active volunteer at Sunnybrook Farm Museum, where he built lawn chairs, benches, fences and flower planters. He loved coffee at the old Sunnybrook farm house, the Village Mall A&W;, Tim Horton's and McDonald's where he and his friends met daily.
