Jack Chapman
Born: Wed Aug 11, 1920
Died: Tue Jan 1, 2013
Jack O'Rourke Chapman was born in Stettler, Alberta on August 11, 1920 to William and Lillian Chapman. He was raised on a farm southeast of Stettler with five brothers and three sisters. Jack's early years were spent working on the farm and playing baseball with the Chapman family baseball team. In March 1941 he enlisted in the army, along with many other young men from the Stettler area. He trained in England with the Calgary Tank Regiment. On August 19, 1942 he was taken prisoner during the Dieppe Raid and spent three and a half years as a prisoner of war. When the war ended, Jack returned to Stettler. He worked for Brennan's Funeral Home as a funeral director for two years. He was then sent to Saskatoon for further training in post-mortem work. In Saskatoon he was recruited to play baseball for the Legion team. On August 11, 1949 Jack married Eunice Falkenberg. Together they raised three children, Dan, Marnie and Jim. During this time Jack operated a dairy farm. He was one of the first in the area to use modern production line technology in his dairy barn. On December 16, 1977 Jack was married to Madeleine Wiart. Jack and Madeleine owned a cattle ranch southeast of Stettler, where they also raised Tennessee Walking horses. During the 1980's and 1990's, Jack was one of the largest Tennessee Walking horse breeders in Canada. Jack and Madeleine had three children, Timothy, Lee and Kimberly. Throughout his lifetime, Jack was a tireless community volunteer. He served with the Stettler Agricultural Society, the County Ratepayers Association and the Recreation Commission. He was involved with the Royal Canadian Legion at the local, provincial and national levels, serving as the Dominion Vice-President from 1976-1980. For his years of service to the Legion, Jack was awarded the Palm Leaf, the highest award obtainable. In recent years Jack enjoyed working on the farm with Madeleine and took great pride in his herd of cattle. He was thankful to be able to continue working on the farm, and did so right up until his death on January 1, 2013. Jack is survived by his loving wife Madeleine, his children Dan (Linda) Chapman, Marnie (Clark) Hoskins, Jim Chapman (Winnie Litvak) , Lee (Sarah) Chapman, and Kim (Kelsey) Hoetmer, sister-in-law Jean Chapman, eight grandchildren, and three great grandchildren. Jack was a hero to many. His greatest love was for his community, his neighbours and friends, and his beloved family. He was blessed with a strong work ethic, a compassionate heart, and a fighting spirit. He lived a long and rich life and will be deeply missed.
A funeral service will be held at the Stettler Community Hall on Saturday, January 5, 2013 at 1:00 P.M. Rene Edmund Joseph Lamoureux
Rene was born February 3, 1956 in Castor, Alberta and passed away on August 23, 2014 in Red Deer, Alberta. Rene was born in Castor, Alberta the 4th child of Fern and Edmay Lamoureux. When Rene was a baby the family moved to Stettler, Alberta. Rene attended school at Stettler Elementary, Stettler Junior High and then William E. Hay High School and graduated in 1976. Rene knew he would go on to some kind of trade work from the time he was small. He would spend hours putting things together like the radios to the television set so we could be the first ones on the block to have stereo sound. He also fixed all of the bikes and made many bikes from all the extra parts. One time Rene put a ramp on the verandah steps and went down on roller skates (the kind you attached to the bottom of your shoes) , he was lucky he did not hurt himself. Rene was also instrumental in organizing bike races down the back alley. This was on tricycles and you stood on the back with one foot and pushed with the other, most of us have the scars on our knees and legs to remind us. He was always tinkering and building things with the various items that he had brought home. Rene was married in 1977 to Elaine Dowling in Stettler. Rene and Elaine moved to Camrose, and he apprenticed at Stoney Creek Plumbing and Heating while attending NAIT to obtain his certificates. Rene and Elaine divorced in 1983 and he continued to work in Camrose at the same place for a few years and then at Burmac Plumbing and Heating. In the mid-eighties Rene moved back to Stettler, and he then began working for the Town Of Stettler, which had become his second home. Rene was still at the Town when he passed away and has left many friends and co-workers there who will miss him very much. In his spare time, Rene enjoyed riding his motorcycles in the warm weather and snowmobiling in the winter. He bought a house and was renovating it in between helping others and working. His love of tinkering continued and he was always updating his electronics and building a computer lab out of spare parts. He was a Jack of All Trades, loved buying on line and loved getting a deal. He would often get more than one of the same item if it was a really good deal… thus he always had spares. Rene was a wonderful brother, a dedicated and hard worker and a dear friend to many and will be deeply missed by all who knew him. Rene was predeceased by his parents Fern and Edmay Lamoureux, his grandparents, Aunts, Uncles, other relatives and by his good friend and co-worker Gordie Bible. He is survived by his 11 brothers and sisters; Lise Lamoureux, Paul (Carolyn) Lamoureux, Diane Lamoureux (Don Stewart) , Claire Lamoureux, Mona Lamoureux, Anna Lamoureux (Steve Mandryk) , Guy (Alice) Lamoureux, Julie Campbell (Brian Smith) , Ivan (Keira) Lamoureux, Susan Kowalski (Vern Yurkowvich) and Nina Lamoureux (Vince) , nieces, nephews, great-nieces and nephew, many Aunts, Uncles, Cousins and also by his family at The Town of Stettler. As an expression of sympathy and in loving memory of Rene, memorial contributions may be made to the charity of your choice in care of Brennen Funeral Home and Cremation Services P.O. Box 193 Stettler, Alberta TOC 2LO who have been entrusted with the care and funeral arrangements.
