Margaret Crayford passed away November 19, 2008 in Vancouver, BC. Margaret was a wife, mother, grandmother, great grandmother, aunt and sister. She was predeceased by Gordon, her husband of 47 years and will be missed by her daughters Anne Marsh of Port Coquitlam, BC and Dawn Friesen of Lacombe, AB; 13 grandchildren, Aaron, Kris, Jody, Jesse, Tina, Grace, Tobi, Cindy, Donaven, Elise, Elizabeth, Joe, and Micheal; 5 great grandchildren and many nieces and nephews. She is survived by one sister, Beatrice (Al) Berke of Edmonton and predeceased by her sister, Delia (Willie) Loesh of Calgary, her sister Josie (Norman) Morrical of Red Deer, and her brother David (Pat) Richardson of Calgary.
Margaret was born in Rocky Mountain House. She grew up in the area and in Blackfalds. She later attended college to become a teacher and enjoyed 2 years at Bible school in Port Angeles. She started her teaching career in a one room schoolhouse and later taught in Clive for many years. She started the kindergarten in Clive, as well as working with special needs children. She spent many years as a Sunday school teacher at Grace Chapel in Lacombe and at Sargeant, where she held vacation bible school every summer. She enjoyed gardening, knitting, sewing, and making beautiful quilts for everyone. She loved playing games with her grandchildren and spent many hours reading to them in her special chair. She enjoyed time with friends, family and grandchildren. She will be missed by all.

Dorothy Howarth (Flewelling) Nee Gaetz
The laughter ended on November 15th, 2008 when Dorothy Howarth passed away at the Lacombe Hospital and Care Center (Continuing Care) a month after her 98th birthday. One of the last immediate descendants of the founding family of Red Deer, Alberta, Dorothy Gaetz was born October 19, 1910, the daughter of Red Deer's first Mayor, Raymond Gaetz and Mary Linton Gaetz, and the Granddaughter of Rev. Leonard Gaetz, founder of the City of Red Deer. One sister and four brothers predeceased her. Following her education in Red Deer, she attended Normal in Camrose and taught school for 29 years including grades one through nine in Elkhorn, Milton and Morningside and Grade One at Lacombe Elementary School. She was adored by children, staff, and parents alike. She once stated that she knew when she was getting older when she discovered that she had taught three generations in one family! Favourite stories of her early teaching career included stories of trudging long distances to school in deep snow, to fire up the furnace before a long day with her beloved students. Dorothy was also the organist and a choir member at St. Andrew's United Church for many years and played for the local Lions Club. She was a popular pianist at the Lacombe Lodge as she played every morning before breakfast. She loved life and she loved to laugh! She was predeceased by her loving husband, Lyle (Happy) Flewelling in 1975, her loving husband, Jack Howarth in 1983, her eldest grandson, Daniel Molzan in 2004, and son-in-law, Bob Gibbons, in 2005. A loving, devoted, and gracious mother and grand-mother, family was everything to Dorothy. She is survived by her two daughters, Mary Gibbons of Victoria, B.C. and Judy Salamandick (Lawrence) of Edmonton; two beloved grandsons; Michael Salamandick (Michelle) , and Mark Salamandick of Edmonton. Also survived by her cherished three great granddaughters, Zoë Salamandick of Edmonton, Gellana and Danysha Molzan of Victoria, BC. A celebration of Dorothy's was held at St. Andrew's United Church, 5226 - 51 Ave. Lacombe on Wednesday, November 19, 2008 at 2:00 p.m. with interment in the Gaetz family plot at the Red Deer Cemetery at a later date. Williams
Jean Arthur Aitken Williams was born near Airth, Scotland on November 26, 1919 and passed away November 4, 2008 in Red Deer Alberta at 88 years of age. She grew up in Scotland and met her husband Lawrence Williams there during the war. They were married on December 23 1944. Jean came to Canada as a War Bride in March of 1946 where she and Lawrence settled in Clive. She was active as musical director of Clive United Church for over 60 years and also was a life member of the Ladies Auxiliary to the Royal Canadian Legion, Clive United Church Women, Eastern Star and War Brides. The main focus in Jean’s life was her family and her music.Jean is survived and will be greatly missed by her children and grandchildren: Shona and Henry Sponholz, Apryl Sponholz, Tyler Sponholz and Andrea Ruskin, Michael Sponholz, Amity Sponholz, Jim Williams, Aaron Williams and Lauren Birks, Aaron’s mother Nancy Archibald, Michelle and Scott Cleverely, Shawn and Kathy Moore, Jaymie and Rob van der Vlugt, Moira and Tim Ellen, Scott Ellen, Spencer Ellen, Margaret and Tom Reynolds, Sarah Williams, Taylor Reynolds, Shae Reynolds, Bill and Rose Williams, Heather Williams, Matthew Williams, Andrew Williams. She was thrilled to be great granny Jean to: Calee van der Vlugt, Jonathan Sponholz-Ruskin, Teanna, Camryn and Nolan Cleverley and Alexa Moore.Jean is also survived by: her sister-in-law Dorothy Aitken, her nieces Elspeth and Sheila, nephew Francis, special cousin Donald and their families in Scotland and England; and Jenny Mikhareva as well as many nieces, nephews and close friends. Jean was pre-deceased by her husband Lawrence in 1986, her parents and her brother Matthew.A memorial service to celebrate Jean’s life will be held at the St. Andrew’s United Church, 5226 51 Avenue, Lacombe Alberta, on Saturday, November 8, 2008 at 1:00pm. Hartenhof, Tjaakje
It is with sadness mixed with joy and thankfulness to the Lord for a long and healthy life that we announce the passing away of our dear Mother, Grandmother and Great Grandmother Tjaakje Hartenhof at the age of 95 years on October 10, 2008.Tjaakje was born in Middlestum, Holland on January 23, 1913 and married her husband Abel in 1936. In 1952 they immigrated to Canada with their four children, Fred, Anne, Peter and Jacob and lived in the Blackfalds area for a short time before moving to the Rocky Mountain House area. In 1965 some of the family moved to Nova Scotia where they took up farming. After the death of her husband Abel, Tjaakje moved back to Alberta at the age of 80 to be close to her daughter Anne. She enjoyed 15 years of life yet in the Lacombe area with the many friends she had, especially Lena DeJong and Hilda Zuidhof and Pastor and Mrs. Sluys.Mother leaves to mourn her passing her four children, Fred (Irene) Hartenhof of London, ON; Anne (Evert) Weenink of Blackfalds, AB their children Allan (Collette) Weenink of High River, AB, Linda (Sam) Swaim, their children Lindsay and Matthew of San Antonia, Texas, Erwin (Kristina) Weenink, their children Avery and Evan of Airdrie, AB, Evert (Deborah) Weenink, their children Dillon, Jaydon and Ericka of Milton, ON; Peter (Kathy) Hartenhof of Kentville, NS, their children Richard (Tanya) Hartenhof, their children Corey and Aaron of Coldbrook, NS, Anna (Chris) Hutchison of Lake Paul, NS, Janice (Joel) Balsor, their son Dorian of Berwick, NS, Tim (Vicki) Hartenhof, their daughter Madeline of Coldbrook, NS; Jacob (Helen) Hartenhof of Coldbrook, NS, their daughter Michelle of Calgary AB. Funeral Services will be held October 20, 2008 at 3:30 p.m. at the Christian Reformed Church in Kentville, Nova Scotia with Pastor Michael Veenema officiating. A private interment service will take place in the Berwick Cemetery in Nova Scotia since her wish was to be buried beside her late husband.

On January 26, 2009, Mrs. Elsie Holmen of Sylvan Lake passed away at the age of 88 years. Elsie is lovingly remembered by her three daughters Barbara (Keith) Owen of Camrose; Linda Keenan of Edmonton, and Gail (Bob) Allan of Bentley; and son-in-law Wayne Bernes of Vermilion; eight grandchildren Michele Stafford, Kent Bernes, Rob and Michael Keenan, Darcy and Kory Owen, Kristi and Brett Allan; thirteen great grandchildren and one great- great grandson; her sister Dorothy Johnson of Sylvan Lake, brother Harvey (Margaret) Dickau of Vancouver; sisters-in-law Joan Dickau, Norma Dickau, and Eileen Holmen; brothers-in-law Jim Walker and Dave Davies.Predeceased by her husband Andrew (1992) , daughters Elaine (1956) and Joyce Bernes (1995) , grandson Kelsey Allan (1978) , son-in-law Robert Keenan (1997) . A celebration of Elsie’s life will be held from the Bentley Community Church on Saturday, January 31, 2009 at 2:00 P.M. Lewis Otto
Lewis Vernon Otto passed away peacefully at the Lacombe Hospital Care Center on January 21, 2009 at the age of 77 years. He will be sadly missed by those who knew and loved him, but we are so grateful for our time together. Lewis was born in Kindersley Saskatchewan on March 21, 1931 and moved with his family to Lacombe in 1948 where he farmed most of his life. Lewis is survived by his children, Shirley Law and Donna (Roman) Chubey, four grandchildren, Greg (Cheryl) Law, Brenda Law, Carolynn (Kurtis) Martin, Quentin (Riley) Wright and four great grandchildren Shaelynn and Ashley Law and Hailey and Shyla Martin; his brother Stan (Barb) Otto and numerous nieces and nephews, as well as his sisters and brothers-in-law. He was predeceased by his wife of forty-four years, Dorothy (Moore) , his parents Christina and Alex Otto, and brother Melvin and his wife Enid Otto. Lewis was a gentle soul and will be remembered for his ready smile and his quiet nature. A celebration of Lewis’ life will be held 1:00 pm, Monday, January 26, 2009 at Wilson’s Funeral Chapel, 6120 Highway 2A, Lacombe Alberta. Harry Otto Hueppelsheuser, youngest son of Otto and Nellie Hueppelsheuser was born
September 28, 1925 in Lacombe, Alberta. He passed away peacefully in his sleep on January 15, 2009 at Harmony Home in Red Deer. Harry grew up and lived all his life on the Home Place west of Blackfalds until the last few months. He was a dedicated and conscientious farmer who enjoyed hunting, camping, square dancing, but most of all his family. Harry loved to travel but felt the best part of the holiday was returning to the Home Place. Harry was predeceased by his three brothers, Glen, Merlin, Harold and by his sister, Dorothy Thompson. He is survived by his wife of sixty years, Myrtle; three daughters Lyn (Ron Vigen) of Beaverlodge, AB; Dawn (David Sigurdson) of Blackfalds, AB and Margaret Hueppelsheuser of Red Deer, AB.
