Felaber, Wayne Harold

With a heavy heart, the families of Wayne Felaber, longtime Hinton resident, passed away on August 17, 2014 at home after a lengthy battle with cancer. Wayne was 74 years old.

Left to remember his legacy and cherish his memory is his beloved family; daughter, Marcene ( (Tony) #1 son in law) Pisak of Hinton, AB, son, Trent (Jennifer Clarke) Felaber of Grande Prairie, AB. Wayne is also survived by one grandson, Garett Francis and one step grandson Dillon (Jamie) Pisak and their two daughters; treasured companion and friend, Cathy Wyard- Scott, one brother and best friend Eugene/Joe (Donna) Wilson of Hinton, AB and several nieces, nephews and a host of lifelong friends.

Wayne was predeceased by his wife, Georgina and his parents.

Wayne had a lifelong love of the outdoors. In addition to 40 plus years of service in Hinton’s timber industry, Wayne loved to spend his time camping, fishing, and riding his quad.

In keeping with Wayne’s wishes cremation has taken place and no Memorial Services will be held.

The family would like to sincerely thank the amazing Dr. Armstrong for all his support, friendship and kindness, above and beyond the call of duty, during this difficult time; as well as those from Hinton Homecare that took such good care of Wayne and made his life more comfortable. Your kindness and support will never be forgotten.

The family suggests that if desired, a donation can be made to the charity of the donor’s choice in Wayne Felaber’s memory.

Winona (McRae) Metrow

November 17, 1932 (Springfield, Manitoba)

May 3rd, 2016 (Hinton, Alberta)

With a heavy heart, we would like to announce the passing of Winona on May 3rd, 2016 in Hinton, Alberta at the age of 83 years.

Winona is survived by her sisters, Gerry, Olive and Mildred and brother Alvin of Selkirk, Manitoba. She is pre-deceased by her sisters, Audrey and Evelyn and her brothers, Charlie and Milton. She is also survived by her daughters, Brenda from Hinton and Shelley from Vancouver and her sons Ray (Nettie) from Hinton and Rod from Hinton, and her Grandchildren, Kristy, Kelley & Christopher, and many loving nieces and nephews.

Winona worked for the Town of Hinton from Aug 1984 to Nov 1997. She loved it and loved being around all the people. She was very proud that she worked for the town.

Winona worked in Kitsault, BC, from 1981 to 1983. She made many lifelong friends there and kept in touch with many of the people after the town closed in 1983. She even got an award “Kitsault’s Best Friend” which was signed by all the residents.

She enjoyed nothing more than a good hockey, baseball or football game on TV. Winona also loved watching the baseball games around Hinton and was always a part of the tournaments and campouts. She enjoyed many beer/juices with the ladies on the teams!

Winona was the camping Queen back in the day and was often found on a Thursday night getting her camper ready for a weekend camping trip.

She loved a good road trip but especially loved it if we were on our way to the River Cree, in Edmonton, Skagit Valley in Washington or to Las Vegas, Nevada.

Thank you to Dr. Hawkwood and all the staff at the Hinton General Hospital. Thank you to Randy and Dr Fay, from Vancouver, for giving us our mom for another 19 years after she kicked cancers butt back in 1997. Thank you to all of Winona’s extended family at the Mountain View Centre. Mom truly loved all the ladies there and everything they did for her. You ladies are a class act!

If there is one word that would describe Nonie, it was that she sure was a character! We will love and miss you forever Mom.

Larry Connolly

It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Larry Connolly on June 5th, 2016, at the age of 56 after a hard fought battle with ALS. Larry grew up in the town of Almonte, Ontario but adventured west to Hinton in his twenties to start a family with his wife Sandi. He was a daredevil, a handyman, a great cook and above all an amazing husband, father and friend. Larry is survived by his mother Mary Connolly (nee Paterson), his wife Sandi, his two daughters Sam and Ali, his siblings Randy, Rick, Lori, Cathy and Kimberly as well as numerous nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles and cousins. He was a caring man who was always ready to lend a helping hand and he will be greatly missed by all who knew him. Larry was preceded in death by his father Lloyd Connolly and his brother Barry Connolly.

We ask that memorial donations be made to the ALS Society of Alberta, an association that offers every possible support to Albertans living with this painful disease. Larry will be laid to rest in his hometown of Almonte, and a celebration honoring Larry’s life will be held in Hinton at a later date.
