November 17, 1932 (Springfield, Manitoba)
May 3rd, 2016 (Hinton, Alberta)
With a heavy heart, we would like to announce the passing of Winona on May 3rd, 2016 in Hinton, Alberta at the age of 83 years.
Winona is survived by her sisters, Gerry, Olive and Mildred and brother Alvin of Selkirk, Manitoba. She is pre-deceased by her sisters, Audrey and Evelyn and her brothers, Charlie and Milton. She is also survived by her daughters, Brenda from Hinton and Shelley from Vancouver and her sons Ray (Nettie) from Hinton and Rod from Hinton, and her Grandchildren, Kristy, Kelley & Christopher, and many loving nieces and nephews.
Winona worked for the Town of Hinton from Aug 1984 to Nov 1997. She loved it and loved being around all the people. She was very proud that she worked for the town.
Winona worked in Kitsault, BC, from 1981 to 1983. She made many lifelong friends there and kept in touch with many of the people after the town closed in 1983. She even got an award “Kitsault’s Best Friend” which was signed by all the residents.
She enjoyed nothing more than a good hockey, baseball or football game on TV. Winona also loved watching the baseball games around Hinton and was always a part of the tournaments and campouts. She enjoyed many beer/juices with the ladies on the teams!
Winona was the camping Queen back in the day and was often found on a Thursday night getting her camper ready for a weekend camping trip.
She loved a good road trip but especially loved it if we were on our way to the River Cree, in Edmonton, Skagit Valley in Washington or to Las Vegas, Nevada.
Thank you to Dr. Hawkwood and all the staff at the Hinton General Hospital. Thank you to Randy and Dr Fay, from Vancouver, for giving us our mom for another 19 years after she kicked cancers butt back in 1997. Thank you to all of Winona’s extended family at the Mountain View Centre. Mom truly loved all the ladies there and everything they did for her. You ladies are a class act!
If there is one word that would describe Nonie, it was that she sure was a character! We will love and miss you forever Mom.
