Shirley was a proud Albertan.
She was born on April 11, 1925 in Drumheller, AB.
She grew up in Beynon and moved to Calgary with her family as a young girl.
There, she attended Rideau Park School and Western Canada High School.
Shirley worked in the Bank of Toronto in Calgary for several years before marrying Rial in 1946.
Rial was the love of her life.
They raised their children and farmed for nearly 50 years at the Owl Ranch at Rosebud.
Shirley was an active and dedicated member of the local community.
She strongly believed in the preservation of our history, and worked to restore and maintain the Rosebud Museum, and helped to write the Rosebud History Book.
She took great pleasure in selecting and giving readings at local showers and events.
Shirley was a deeply creative person.
She could turn anything, from a lunchbox to an old necktie, into a work of art.
Many family and friends are proud owners of a quilt, “Made with love by Shirley”.
She had a true sense of fun and adventure.
Whether sifting through hidden treasures in a garbage dump in Yellowknife, exploring and getting lost in the streets of Copenhagen, or walking through an old cemetery, Shirley was always eager to try or learn something new.
Shirley was a passionate person.
She approached life with clear values and a profound faith.
She so loved her family and friends, children and grandchildren, nieces and nephews.
Shirley taught us to laugh hard, love deeply and give with all of our hearts.
