July 18, 1936 - August 7, 2007
After a brief struggle with pancreatic cancer, Ted Nicholson, beloved husband of Dorothy, passed away on August 7, 2007, surrounded by his family.
Ted was born and raised in Saskatchewan, and convocated from the University of Saskatchewan with Bachelor of Arts (B.A.) and Bachelor of Laws (LL.B.) degrees. From 1963 until his recent illness, he was a practicing lawyer in Calgary, doing so mostly as a sole practitioner.
Ted always put his family first and he will be lovingly remembered as a faithful and loyal husband, a devoted, model father to his children, Christa (Graham Oben) and Robert (Denise Megliola), and a proud grandfather to his two granddaughters, Shan Ling Nicholson Oben (six years), and Edie Marie Nicholson (four months).
The youngest of three children, Ted was predeceased by his father, George, his mother, Annie, and his oldest sister, Marie. He is survived by his sister, Elaine.
Ted had many different interests and pastimes and whether it was participating in his children’s sports and other activities, developing his interest in wines, landscaping, or building, he was an active person and always on the go. He enjoyed golfing, tennis, sailing, skiing and biking, and often travelled to new and far away destinations to enjoy these activities, spend time with family and friends, or see new places. Ted was quick to smile and loved to socialize with friends, some of whom date back to his elementary school days in Saskatchewan.
One of Ted’s great joys in life was helping people solve their personal and business challenges which he did with great enthusiasm, competence, and integrity as his clients’ trusted lawyer and in many cases, confidant. His passing will be a true loss to his clients and the legal profession.
Ted was adored by his family and friends who are honoured to have had the privilege to have spent so many great times with him. He will be lovingly remembered and deeply missed forever.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to C.U.P.S. Calgary Urban Project Society (128 – 7 Avenue SE, Calgary, AB T2G 0H5) in Ted’s name.
