JOHNSON - 1972 - 2006 - Donald Stewart "Don" Johnson of Red Deer, died tragically with his partner, Ashley Lavigne, on Sunday, October 8, 2006 at the age of 34 years. Don was born on June 30, 1972 at Estevan, Saskatchewan. He received his early schooling in Sylvan Lake, Alberta and then spent his High School years in Consort, Alberta. Don's career was spent in the Oilfield, where he was self-employed. Don was a self-assured and confident man who enjoyed life to the fullest. He loved the outdoors, going camping with family and friends, enjoyed quading and taking his boat out during the summer months. He also enjoyed flying remote airplanes. Don loved his family very much. He was known as "Uncle Donkey" to his beloved nieces and nephews. Don would take the kids out and teach them to skate and he loved playing road hockey with his nephews. Don will be sadly missed, but lovingly remembered and forever cherished in the hearts of his family and many friends. Don is survived by his mother and stepfather, Candace and Jack Cumberland of Alix, Alberta, five sisters, one brother, five nieces and five nephews, as well as numerous other family members and friends. Don was predeceased by his father, Marvin Johnson in May 2006. HOSKIN, Thomas
HOSKIN - Thomas (Tom) Hoskin, of Red Deer, passed away peacefully on Saturday, October 7, 2006, at the age of 85. Tom was born March 18, 1921, and spent 81 years on the family farm before moving to Victoria Park Lodge, Red Deer, in 2000. Tom joined the army in 1939 and spent 5 1/2 years overseas during WWII. After returning to the farm, he married Gladys Huget, and there they raised their family and spent time with friends. Tom was active in the Legion, taking a role as honor guard, organizing annual army reunions and selling poppies. Honoring fallen comrades on Remembrance Day was an important commitment he instilled in his family. Tom's volunteer activities included Chair, Edwell School District; President, local UFA; leader of the Horn Hill 4-H Grain Club; Vice-President, Red Deer Mutual Telephone Company; Red Deer Exhibition; local REA; County of Red Deer Agricultural Service Board and parent volunteer, Red Deer Pony Club. Tom was predeceased by his father and mother, Arthur and Catherine Hoskin, and sister Catherine Grant. He is lovingly remembered by Gladys, his wife and partner of 57 years; children, Heather (Ted) Marchesi, Ken (Marion Malsbury) Hoskin and Brenda (Eric Sanford) Hoskin; grandchildren, Melissa and Daniel Marchesi, Autumn (Ryan Boag) Malsbury, Megan (Brian) Stickland, Caley and Zach Hoskin; great grand-daughter, Ayden Boag; sisters, Mary Cooper and Elsie (Harold) Eloff; brother, Ben (Vivian) Hoskin; sister-in-law, Carol (John) Carson and many nieces, nephews and friends. KNUTSON Ethel Lurennie - Ethel (Rennie) Knutson passed away peacefully on Friday, October 6, 2006 at the Rosefield Continuing Care Centre, Innisfail, AB at the age of 97 years. Rennie will be lovingly remembered by her family; daughters, Ruth Bakken and Donna (Ron) Leach, all of Innisfail; 6 grandchildren and 16 great grandchildren, as well as 2 sisters, Josephine Johnston and Vera Miller and one brother, Lloyd Ryan. SKAGE - 1928 - 2006 - Mr. John Alexander Skage, beloved husband of Mrs. Elsie Skage of Red Deer, passed away peacefully at the Red Deer Regional Hospital Centre on Thursday, October 5, 2006 at the age of 78 years. John was born on January 17, 1928 at Edmonton, Alberta. He was a very loving husband, father, grandfather, papa, brother, uncle and a trusted friend. He was a very caring man with a wonderful sense of humour, making everyone laugh with his big smiles and funny jokes. John touched many hearts and many lives through his love and kindness. He will be "deeply missed" but lovingly remembered and forever cherished in the hearts of his family and many dear friends. John leaves to mourn his loss, his loving wife of fifty-five years, Elsie of Red Deer, his son, John (Barb) Skage of Rocky Mountain House, his four daughters, Nadine (Bob) Pico and Audrey (Jim) Williams, all of Red Deer, Lois (Willie) Weich of Cochrane and Ruby Fairbrother (Bob Koehli) of Sylvan Lake. Also to mourn his loss are eleven grandchildren and their spouses and six great grandchildren. REIMER - On March 30, 2006, Henry Reimer passed away at the age of 68 years. He is survived by his loving wife Dorothy; children: Ron (Michelle), Mark (Judy), Val (Keith) Blumhagen; six grandchildren: Elliott, Kris, Missy, Elsie, Jack Henry and Sam; siblings: Helen (Mitchell), Tina, John (Laura), Abe (Barb), Jim (Bev) and Ed; and a large extended family of nieces, nephews and cousins. SOMMER - Mrs. Adele Sommer (nee Rausch) of Red Deer, formerly of Vernon, British Columbia, passed away peacefully at the Red Deer Regional Hospital Centre on Wednesday, March 29, 2006 at the age of 85 years. Adele was born on January 26, 1921 in Grodjetz, Poland. Coming to Canada in the dirty thirties, she missed the serenity of the ponds and lily pads from her farm home in Poland until she moved to the beautiful Okanagan Valley. There, she met, fell in love with, and married Ernie and raised three daughters. She loved her family and she loved God. Adele sang in the choir, she sang to her children and sang to herself. Hers was a singing soul and always will be; we can still hear our beloved Adele! We can still smell her cinnamon buns, and we will all miss her many stories and long chats. Adele leaves to mourn her loss, her loving daughters, Karen Sommer of Kelowna, British Columbia, Helen (Don Longshore) of Red Deer and Brenda (Michael O'Keefe) of Cochrane, Alberta and her beloved grandchildren, Nathan, Caryn, Jennifer, Heather, Michael and Kiri. She will also be sadly missed by her sisters, Berta and Dorothy Rausch of Calgary, Alberta and her brother, Ken Rausch (Isabel) of Surrey, British Columbia.
