She is survived by four sons, Eugene A. (Leone), Maurice W. (Polly), Alfred T. and Arthur W.; grandchildren, Paul, Sharon, Matthew, Tanya, Wanda, Gerry, and Darren; as well as two great-grandchildren. She was predeceased by her husband Frederick R. Prozny who passed away in Banff in July 1974. A Memorial Service will be held at the Banff Senior Centre, upstairs, 107 Bear Street on Wednesday, December 10, 1997 at 2:00 p.m. Burial of the urn will take place, with her husband, in Mountain View Cemetery, Banff. PRYKE - Peter Frank Pryke of Calgary, passed away at the Foothills Hospital on Thursday, December 25, 1997, after a lengthy illness at the age of 85 years. He is the loving father of a son Donald Pryke of Cochrane; and a daughter and son-in-law, Mary and Bruce Goodwin of Sundre; and a granddaughter Cheryl Goodwin. Peter is also survived by a sister Emily Fraser of Vancouver, B.C. He was predeceased by his wife Muriel on November 2, 1982, as well as several brothers and sisters. PUSHIE - Alice Olive. 1925 - 1997. Passed away suddenly at her home on July 15, 1997 at age 72. She is survived by her daughters, Diane Maxted, Genoa Daniel, Heather Coulter; and her son Scott Pushie; grandchildren, Aidan, Robin, Grace, Emily and Kathryn Mary; her sisters, Hazel Cable and Kay Duncan; aunt Madge Sanford; and numerous nephews and nieces. Alice was predeceased by her parents, Ralph and Connie Sanford, her brothers, Bub and Jack, and sisters, Irene and Gwen. Raised on the family farm near Ardrossan, Alberta, she retained a love for the land and family all her life. She was an avid gardener who appreciated all living things and loved being near the ocean. Alice was proud of her hospital and Air Force canteen work during the war years. Among her many loves were babies' feet, robins, pansies, accordion music and stories. She travelled through her books. She will be remembered lovingly for her gentle, caring ways. Services will be held at Mt. Washington Chapel, 1380 Cliffe Avenue, Courtenay, B.C. on Wednesday, July 23 at 11:00 a.m. Interment to follow at Courtenay Cemetery (7/22/1997).
PUSZCZAK - Joseph Puszczak passed away at his residence on July 10, 1997 at the age of 70 years, beloved husband of Mrs. Anne Puszczak, Calgary; dear father and father-in-law of Sandy and Ehor Babij, Calgary, Dr. Paul and Lexine Puszczak, Edmonton; and dearly beloved grandfather of Alex and Terry Babij and Mark Puszczak. He is also survived by two brothers, Ostap and Fedir; three sisters, Kathrina, Sophia and Stephania; and numerous nephews and nieces in Ukraine; also by his mother-in-law Anastasia Lipko, Calgary. He was predeceased by his parents, John and Anna Puszczak. He was born in Hnizdychiw, Ukraine and moved to Germany, where he married his wife Anne in 1948 and they came to Canada in 1949 to Iron Springs, Alberta and to Calgary in 1953 and resided in Calgary since. He was engaged in Home Building as vice-president and part owner of Built-Rite Homes, until his retirement. He was an active member of the Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary Ukrainian Catholic Church. Joseph was a wonderful and loving husband, father and grandfather and will be deeply missed by all who loved him. The family wish to extend their heartfelt thanks to Dr. Gary Haywood and staff as well as Dr. Scott Ernst and staff at the Tom Baker Cancer Centre. KNUDSON - Arthur Robert passed away suddenly on December 18, 1997 at the age of 65 years. He will be sadly missed by his wife Joan; his daughter JoAnne (John) Talerico; his son David (Sherri) Knudson; and grandchildren, Laura and Matthew Talerico. He is also survived by two sisters, Maxine Lazzarotto (Len), and Jeannette (Ed) Dodd. He was predeceased by his parents, Arthur and Ruth, and sisters, Elsie and Doreen. Art was born February 25, 1932 in Canmore, AB. He left Canmore after high school to pursue an interest in surveying. Art worked forty-seven years in the surveying field, beginning his career with Wolley-Dod and MacCrimmon Surveys and was well-known for his dedication and work ethic which was exemplified in his daily work. He gained his Alberta Land Surveyor certification in May of 1977 and was currently employed with Northcan Surveys Ltd. During his career he worked on numerous TransAlta projects throughout Alberta and BC. Highlights were his involvement in the TransAlta 500 line that ran from Crowsnest Pass to Janet, AB. Other projects took him from Northern Alberta to the Queen Charlotte Islands. He was known and loved for his fun-loving spirit, enjoyment of the outdoors and his selfless giving to his family, neighbours and friends. A special thank you to the staff at Northcan Surveys and Calgary EMS for all their efforts in Art's final hours. MEADOWLARK - Crystal Meadowlark, on June 19, 1997, at her Calgary home, in the company of her family. Born Merry Christina Willman, April 1, 1953, Crystal is survived by her mother and step-dad, Cherie and Jim; her sisters, Brenda and Gae (Alister) of Calgary; her brother Jay (Kathi) and her nieces, Nina and Kelsey of Winnipeg; aunts, uncles, cousins and other family. She will be remembered by her longtime friends and especially missed by her cats, Toot and (Pample) mousse. Crystal trod lightly as she followed her dreams. They led her often to the Rockies - may she rest there in peace. KIEL - Henry Kiel, beloved husband of Victoria of Calgary, passed away at the Bethany Care Centre in Calgary on July 18, 1997 at the age of 93 years. Besides his loving wife, he is also survived by a stepdaughter, Sandra (Mario) Zagar; two grandchildren, Cathy (Dale) Sargent and Brian (Kelly) Zagar; and a grandson Domonic; as well as two brothers, Adolf Kiel and Reinholt (Meta) Kiel and family all of Wetaskawin; and many nieces and nephews; especially niece, Ruth Watson and husband Jim and family. He was predeceased by two brothers and three sisters. A man who enjoyed life and woodworking, Henry was a carpenter with the City of Medicine Hat for many years prior to his retirement in 1969. Loved by all, he made many friends at Bethany where he has resided for the past eleven years. A Service of Remembrance will be held in the Link Chapel on the Fifth Floor at the Bethany Care Centre, 916 - 18A Street N.W. KIMMEL - Bryan Herbert Kimmel passed away suddenly on October 21, 1997 while vacationing in Albufeira, Portugal. Left to mourn are his loving wife Barbara Thompson; mother-in-law Mona Thompson of Calgary; his parents, Herbert and Phyllis Kimmel; grandmother Esther Kimmel, all of Kamloops; grandfather Ernest Harding of Langley; and two sisters, Karen (Todd) Clark of Calgary, and Kathy, currently attending University of Saskatchewan in Saskatoon; also two nephews, Cody and Tyler Clark of Calgary; and numerous aunts, uncles and cousins and many friends. Bryan was born in Ocean Falls, BC and attended school in Prince George and Kamloops, graduating from Kamloops Sr. Secondary School in 1980. He went on to attend U.C.C. before moving to Calgary to attend the U of C. He also received a certification in Avionics from SAIT. He graduated from U of C with a Bachelor of Science degree in Computer Sciences. Bryan married Barbara in 1991 and was associated with Digi Rule Inc. as a Software Engineer. Bryan and Barbara travelled extensively to the USA, Mexico and Europe and enjoyed golfing and skiing and bowling. KING - Mr. Walter James King of Calgary, passed away at the Rockyview General Hospital on Thursday, July 3, 1997 at the age of 85 years. Walter was born in Rainy River, Ontario and grew up in nearby Fort Frances. In 1939, Walter was posted to the "Number Two Wireless School" in Calgary, with the RCAF. After numerous postings throughout Canada he returned to Calgary at the end of World War Two, and married Eunice Rose in 1947. From the early 1950's, Walter practiced accounting with firms, "Finestone King & Company" and "King Pennett & Company", before retiring in the late 1980's. Walter, one of the founding members of the "Shamrock Seniors", worked together with his friends tirelessly at raising funds all year for needy families each Christmas. He is survived by his daughter Sandra and son-in-law John Lyster; sisters, Stella Andrusco and Sophie Grynol of Fort Frances; brothers, Nick of Fort Frances and John of Sudbury; a daughter Marcia and a son Ron of Fort Frances. Walter is predeceased by his wife Eunice and brother Adolphe. The family would like to express their sincerest thanks to the staff of the Rockyview Coronary Care Unit for their care and compassion.
