- Shop now for incredible insights into your wellbeing -HUNTER - Alexander (Alex) George Hunter, beloved husband of Ruth Hunter of Calgary, passed away suddenly on July 7, 1997 at the age of 58 years. Alex was born October 31, 1938 in Drumheller, Alberta. For the past forty years, Alex worked in the glass business and since 1977 he owned and operated Olympic Glass Ltd. He was a past member of the Stampede City Kinsmen and presently a member of the K-40 Club. His enjoyments in life included fishing, the Calgary Flames, and the Calgary Stampeders. Alex always enjoyed helping people, he was always there to lend a helping hand. He had a great love for his family and will be sadly missed. Besides his loving wife, Alex is also survived by three sons and daughters-in-law, Bryson and Cindy Hunter of Strathmore, Tyler and Tanis Hunter, Todd Hunter and Patricia Boser, all of Calgary; and six grandchildren, Tanya, Greg, Sarah, Spencer, Sydnie, and Joel. He is also survived by his loving mother, Winnifred Hunter of Drumheller; two brothers and sisters-in-law, Bill and Lorraine of Calgary; Jim and Sharron of Port Coquitlam, B.C.; and five sisters and a brother-in-law, Margaret and Albert Barrie of Drumheller, Darlene Hunter of Vermilion, Grace Hanson, Jean Safronovich, both of Brooks, and Carol Hunter of Calgary. Alex was predeceased by his father George Hunter, and a brother Tom Hunter. ANDERSON - Milward V. of Sidney, BC, passed away June 15, 1997 at Victoria. Beloved husband of fifty-seven years of Mildred (Millie) Anderson, and cherished father of four sons, Doug (Beverly); Jim (Bette); Russ (Rita); Murray (Diane); fifteen grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; and as well, two brothers, Jack and Alex; and a sister Margaret. He was predeceased by his parents and a sister Chris. Milward was born November 16, 1915 at Calgary, AB, and spent his working life with the family business, Anderson Plumbing Company Ltd. in Calgary. Milward and Millie retired to Ardmore Drive, Sidney in 1971. Service of Remembrance will be held on Saturday, June 21, 1997 at 1:30 p.m. in St. Paul's United Church, 2410 Malaview, Sidney, BC. ALLEN - Margaret Flora. It is with great sadness that on December 22, 1997, Margaret Flora Allen of Calgary, formerly of Edmonton, passed away quietly at the Foothills Hospital after avery short illness. Her loving husband Henry; daughter Margaret; son-in-law Gary Webster; grandchildren, Brent and his wife Glenys, Jeffery and Janice; as well as many nieces and nephews, will sorely miss her. Margaret will also be missed by the many friends who knew her through the years with her bright smile and always being there to lend a helping hand. EVANS - Gerald Roy (Gerry) Evans, beloved husband, father and friend, passed away at home on Tuesday, December 30, 1997, at the age of 72 years. He was predeceased by his parents, Laura and Leonard Evans, first wife Betty Beaumont, second wife Dona Belle Evans (nee Dwigans) in 1971, and son Rexford John Evans in 1968. Gerry is survived by his wife Claire Evans; brother Walter Evans (Vivian) of Victoria, BC; daughters, Sharon Evans of Toronto, Peggy Henderson of Etobicoke, ON, Gillian Evans (Paul Fry) of Calgary, and Heather Johnson (Derrick) of Port Moody, BC; stepdaughters, Kerry White-Tucker (Ron Tucker) of Calgary, and Jennifer White of Vancouver; stepson Greg White (Karen Mackie) of Calgary; grandchildren, Blair and Jason Henderson of Etobicoke, ON, Jessica and Hannah Johnson of Port Moody, BC; and step grandchildren, Rebecca and Samuel Tucker of Calgary. Born in Saskatoon in 1925, Gerry completed Senior Matriculation at Bedford Road Collegiate in June, 1943. He immediately joined the Royal Canadian Navy, where he served until 1945. He became a journeyman electrician in 1947, running his own electrical and outboard marine business until1952 when he went to Juno, Alaska to work in the C.M.S. Mine. Gerry returned to Saskatoon to form an electrical contracting firm which was responsible for the electrical portion of all the major gas installations in the city of Saskatoon. In 1958, Gerry received his registered hunting and fishing guide's license, which began his life-long love affair with the North Country, particularly LaRonge, Saskatchewan. Gerry moved to Calgary in 1959, where he became a representative for the Electrical Services League of Alberta, while working as a journeyman electrician. He later worked for Federal Pacific Electric Equipment Manufacturers, until 1966, when he transferred to Pyle National Electrical Manufacturing, where he remained while completing the Academic Business Diploma Program at Mount Royal College, where he was awarded the Birks Medal for highest grade point average for 1968-1969. In order to raise two young daughters and care for his terminally ill wife, Dona, Gerry entered and completed in 1973, a Bachelor of Arts degree in Education. He taught at James Short Memorial Elementary School until 1976, when he began teaching in the Math and Physics Department at S.A.I.T. for the next ten years. Gerry completed his Master of Arts in Applied Behavioral Science from L.I.O.S. in1986, and given his keen interest in step families, was instrumental in starting S.O.S. (Society of Step-families). In 1997 he earned his Doctoral Degree in Philosophy and Health and Human Sciences from Columbia Pacific University, San Francisco, CA. Gerry died as he had lived, surrounded by the love, admiration and respect of his family and friends. He will be cremated, and in the spring, Gerry's ashes will be returned to the North Country, which he loved so deeply. A Memorial Service will be held at Parkdale United Church, 2919 - 8 Avenue N.W., on Saturday, January 3, 1998 at 11:00 a.m. with Reverend Jan Craig officiating. FERGUSON - Daphne passed away at her residence after a lengthy illness, on Thursday, December 18, 1997. Daphne will be lovingly remembered by her husband John; and by her cousins, Evelyn Allan of Scotland, and Bill Burnett and his wife Nanette of Australia. Daphne possessed a true love of gardening which she enjoyed her entire life. She was a member of the Naomi Rebekah Lodge No. 12 and enjoyed her many lodge activities. Another of Daphne's joys was the knitting of sweaters, knee laps, and various other items which she generously and lovingly made for the enjoyment of others. Daphne will be missed by all who knew her. JORDAN - Vernon George of Champion passed away peacefully at Vulcan Community Health Centre, December 8, 1997 at the age of 66 years. Beloved husband of Mrs. Jean Jordan of Champion; a daughter Diane (Tony) Krystalowich of Vulcan; two sons, Rick (Lynn) of Brooks and Les (Jan) of Calgary; six grandchildren; a sister Charlotte Fletcher of Taber; four brothers, Ken of Innisfail, Keith (Rita) of Spruce Grove, Mel of Vulcan and Ron (Marj) of Lethbridge; sister-in-law Rev. JONES - Mrs. Olga (Ollie) Antonia Jones, beloved wife of Mr. Clarence Jones of Calgary, passed away peacefully with her family at her side at the Agape Manor Hospice on Wednesday, December 10, 1997 after a short but courageous battle with cancer, at the age of 77 years. Ollie was born January 16, 1920 in Brandon, Manitoba. Ollie and Clarence were married in June of 1948, and moved to Calgary in 1949. She worked in the insurance industry for several years, and was the secretary for the Insurance Institute of Alberta. She was a devoted wife, mother and grandmother, and always put her family first. She took great pride in her home and garden which she meticulously maintained. Ollie was an active member of St. Bernard's Parish and the Catholic Women's League for many years. Besides her loving husband Clarence, Ollie is survived by a daughter and son-in-law, Marlene and Bill Lambe of Calgary; and a son and daughter-in-law, Bob and Susan Jones of Kanata, Ontario. She was the loving Nana of five grandsons, Robert and Jeffrey Lambe, and Ryan, David and Kyle Jones. She is also survived by a sister Jennie Hrushowy of Courtenay, B.C.; and a brother and sister-in-law, Peter and Jean Teresko of Toronto, Ontario. Ollie was predeceased by her parents, Samuel and Mary Teresko, and a sister Helen Antonation. As well as her relatives and friends, Ollie will be missed by her bridge club of which she was a member for over twenty-five years. MARSHALL - It is with great sadness James (Jim) Madden Marshall, beloved husband of Mrs. Marilyn Marshall of Calgary, passed away peacefully at his daughter's residence on September 16, 1997, at the age of 71 years. Besides his loving wife of forty-six years, Jim is survived by two daughters and sons-in-law, Laurie and Doug Murray and their children, Lyndsay and Megan of Brandon, Manitoba; and Cindy and Jim Bertram and their children, Dan and Allie of Calgary, Alberta. Jim is remembered with love and affection. He lived a simple life and took pleasure in small things. He loved the mountains, seasons, his family, and grandchildren. There are many friends whose memories of Jim will always be treasured. He was a selfless person who showed incredible strength and courage.
