Alacoque Ryan passed away on Sunday May 9, 2004 at the Northview Nursing Home in Englehart.
She was born in Charlton on August 17, 1911 to James Sullivan and Sarah Ann Scott.
Later Mrs. Ryan was educated a Savard School and married Allen Ryan in Charlton on November 26, 1934.
Mrs. Ryan worked as a secretary/treasurer and tax collector for the Savard Consolidated Board and was an enumerator and election clerk many times over the years.
She was a very community-minded person who never hesitated to serve on committees. Mrs. Ryan joined the Savard Women s Institute in 1927. She was also very active in events at Savard School, Charlton Agricultural Society and a 4-H Club leader since 1961.
Mrs. Ryan also attended as a parishioner at St. Stephens Catholic Church in Charlton until closing, and recently, Holy Trinity Church in Englehart.
She was a news correspondent for the Northern Daily News and The Temiskaming Speaker. She was secretary/treasurer of the Temiskaming-Cochrane Potato Growers Association and represented the Charlton area for many years on the Farm Safety Council.
She also served on the Charlton Summerfest committee, the Earlton Steam Show board, Junior Farmers Club leader, plays, concerts, and she visited local schools to talk about history and display antiques and artifacts.
Mrs. Ryan and her husband won the world championship in potatoes at the Royal Winter Fair in Toronto in 1958, 1962, and 1964.
She spent her last few years at the Northview Nursing Home and received love, care and respect from the staff, volunteers and residents at the home.
Her pride and joy was The Charlton Story-From Sawdust to Ashes written by her son Kevin Ryan.
She is survived by Morris (Patricia) of Englehart, Michael of Charlton, Jerome (Janie) of Massey, Urban (Mary) of North Bay, Catherine (Erik) of Naughton, Kevin (Carolyn) of Charlton, special son-in-law Cecil Mitchell (Estaire), sister-in-law Doris Sullivan of New Liskeard, sister-in-law Dorothy Ryan of North Bay and many very loving and devoted grandchildren, great-granchildren, friends, nieces and nephews.
She is predeceased by her husband Allen in 1984, son Leo in 2000, daughter Marlene in 2002, son Anthony in 1944, daughter Adrienne Ann in 1946, brothers Lambert, Manus, Erban, and parents James Sullivan and Sarah Ann Scott.
The funeral service was held at Holy Trinity Church in Englehart on May 11 and was conducted by Father Scully. Burial followed at St. Stephens cemetery in Charlton.

Florence Briggs
Florence Briggs of Englehart died April 21, 2004, at the Northview Nursing Home in Englehart.
She was born in Alton, England, on November 12, 1907, to Florence Annie (Gregory) and Arthur W. Neal.
She was educated in Savard Township. A homemaker, she was a former member of the Women s Institute and, with her husband Clifford, was an active member of the Englehart Seniors Club.
She was an award winner at the Charlton agricultural fair, winning prizes for her homemade butter, preserves, and bread. She also enjoyed knitting and crocheting Afghans and loved to travel.
She is survived by her daughters Evelyn Allen (Gordon), Erma Vosdingh and Edna Nuhn (Wilmer); sons Jack Warren (Reta) and Bill Warren (Faye); several grandchildren, great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren, and the children of Clifford Briggs and their families.
She was predeceased by husbands Joseph Warren, Alex Free and Clifford Briggs; sons Leonard and Bernard; daughter Muriel; brothers Bill, Albert, Percy and Don; sister Dorothy; son-in-law Bert Vosdingh; daughter-in-law Barbara Warren, grandchildren Dianne Pedersen and Bill Nuhn, and great-grandson Tony Halloran.
The funeral service was held at Emmanuel United Church, Englehart, April 24, 2004, at 11 a.m. Rev. Peter Dahlin officiated.
Pallbearers were grandsons Arlaan Warren, Donald Parker, Melvin Warren, Arnold Warren, Randy Allen and Leonard Nuhn.
Relatives and friends from New Brunswick and across Ontario attended.

Isobel (Belle) Janet Simmons
Isobel Simmons of Englehart died March 6, 2004 at the Englehart and District Hospital.
She was born in Englehart on May 19, 1953 to Jack and Isobel Katherine Fearnley.
Educated at Englehart Public and High Schools, she loved animals and gardening. The one love of her life was being a volunteer animal handler at the Calgary Zoo for many years. She moved back to Englehart from Calgary in 1993 and spent many years as a companion to her mother. She was also a member of St. Paul s Presbyterian Church.
Mrs. Simmons, who was divorced, is survived by her daughter Gidget (Gerry) Hebert and grandson Bradley Hebert of Cold Lake, Alberta; mother Isobel Fearnley; siblings Mary (Cam) Demarce, John (Shirley) Fearnley, Mark (Penny) Fearnley; and six nieces and nephews.
She was predeceased by her father Jack Fearnley.
The funeral was arranged by McDonald Funeral Home in Englehart. Cremation has occurred.
In memory contributions to the Englehart and District Hospital would be appreciated by the family.
The family of the late Isobel Simmons will receive friends at the McDonald Funeral Home in Englehart on Friday, May 14 from 7-9 p.m.
A memorial service will be held at McDonald Funeral Home on Saturday, May 15 at 11 a.m. with Reverend Drew Jacques officiating.
Joyce Warne
Joyce Warne of Larder Lake died May 6, 2004, at the Englehart and District Hospital after an illness of eight months.
She was born August 22, 1943, in Owen Sound to Dorothy Hughes and Harold Moore. She was educated in Owen Sound and at St. Mary s Nursing School in Kitchener.
On August 7, 1965, she married George Warne in Owen Sound and moved to Englehart from Orillia in 1996.
A registered nurse, she had been administrator and director of care at Northview Nursing Home in Englehart.
She attended Our Lady of the Lake Roman Catholic Church in Larder Lake.
She is survived by her husband, George; her mother, Dorothy Hughes of Owen Sound; brothers Eugene of Thorold, Phillip of Surrey, British Columbia, and Larry of Owen Sound, sister Carolyn of Barrie, and numerous nieces and nephews.
The funeral service was held at Our Lady of the Lake May 13, 2004, with Father Simon Drapeau officiating.
In-memory contributions can be made to Our Lady of the Lake parish.

Omer Loranger
Omer Loranger died on May 7, 2004 at the age of 70.
He is survived by his wife Jeanne d Arc (Savoie); children Gilles (wife Claudette Concessi) of Hanmer, Diane (husband Louis D nomm ) of New Liskeard, Denis (wife Sylvie McNicoll) of Quyon; 11 grandchildren; sisters Yvonne, Lucille, Juliette, Denise, and Monique; brothers Paul-Emile, Jacques, Jean-Guy, and Andr , as well as many relatives and friends.
He was predeceased by his brother Maurice, parents Juliette and Henri-Georges, and his adoptive mother Marie-Berthe Loranger.
Mr. Loranger was a farmer in Earlton area for more than 20 years. During that time he was involved in many community organizations such as the Lions Club, as well as serving on the boards of the co-op and the Caisse Populaire and as a municipal councillor. He also worked at Trudel Equipment until he retired.
Visitation will take place Saturday, May 15, at l glise St-Jean-Baptiste of Earlton from 9 a.m. to 11 a.m. The funeral service will follow at 11 a.m.

John Bryan Wilson
Special people touch our lives in everything they do and leave us changed long after they have gone. With deep sadness, the family announces the death of Bryan on March 10, 2004, after a courageous battle with cancer. A dedicated and loving husband, father, and brother, Bryan died peacefully at his home surrounded by his closest family members.
Born August 9, 1949, Bryan was the second oldest son of Tom and Velma (Burk) Wilson. He grew up in Harris Township and was educated at Ball s Public School and the New Liskeard High School. In 1957, Bryan left the area to work for Dr. Jack Smylie s Veterinary Clinic in North Bay and attended Radio Electronics Television Schools of Canada.
He returned to New Liskeard in 1961 and found employment with Deraiche s Appliances and Furniture Store in Haileybury. In 1967, he opened his own television and radio repair service. In 1980, he closed his business and went to work for the Temiskaming Hospital in the maintenance department, retiring in September of 2001.
Bryan is survived by his wife Louisa (Colton), and three children, Shelly (Jeremy), Kevin, Ryan; and six brothers and sisters, Gordon (Lucille), Tom (Lucille), May, Norman (Lita), Sandra (Garry), Crystal (Rod), 13 nieces and nephews, and 6 great-nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his parents and one brother, Gerald.
The funeral was arranged by the Perrin Funeral Chapel with the service conducted by Reverend Ivan Dambrowitz. Pallbearers were Doug and Ted Waugh, David and Gary Wilson, Carl Burk, and Steven McNair.
Relatives and friends attended from the local area, Edmonton, Port Elgin, Kapuskasing, Timmins, North Bay, St. Catharines, Grimsby, Mississauga, Peterborough, Belleville and Ottawa.
Bryan had a great love for the outdoors and nature. He spent many enjoyable hours camping with family, canoeing, bird-watching and tending to his garden. He was always there to quietly help family members and friends, and never missed family get-togethers and reunions. His close family ties led him naturally to researching the family history and renewing ties with distant relatives. He will be sadly missed by all who came to know his kindness and generosity. No life passes without a purpose and Bryan s legacy of love and life s true values will inspire to guide those who mourn his loss.
