Rene W. Morin

Rene (Ben) Morin died June 27, 2004 in his eighty-ninth year.

Mr. Morin was predeceased by his wife Edna (n e Roberts) and son-in-law Sydney Fortchimo.

He is survived by his children Kenneth (Carol) of Orangeville, Sarah Williams (Ron) of Bruce Mines, Allan (Jacinta) of Bruce Mines, Edith Fortchimo of Chisasibi, Quebec, Nancy Milne (Ron) of Kirkland Lake, Mary McNeely (Bruce) of Bangkok, Thailand, Lois Nolan (Paul) of Bruce Mines and Robert of Iqaluit, Nunavet; sister Leona McAnaul (George) of Haileybury; sister-in-law Eleanor (Nell) Harrison of Elliot Lake; 14 grandchildren, 20 great-grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.

Cremation has taken place.

A memorial service for family and friends will be held July 10 at 83 Taylor Street, Bruce Mines at 2 p.m.

Donations in memory of Mr. Morin to the Thessalon Hospital or Algoma Manor would be appreciated by the family.

Marie Paule Cloutier

Marie Paule Cloutier (n e Paiement) of Englehart died June 14, 2004 at the Englehart and District Hospital.

She was born in Earlton on December 5, 1930 to Wilfrid and Rosilia Paiement and later married Roberge Paul Cloutier in Earlton on May 13, 1947.

Mrs. Cloutier s main focus was her family of five children and eight grandchildren. She was truly a great caring and giving person who will be missed by everyone. She was famous at saying these words to everyone: Mom loves you!

Mrs. Cloutier, a longtime member of the Royal Canadian Legion Branch 310 in Elk Lake, was predeceased by her husband Roberge on June 14, 2003 and by her parents Wilfrid and Rosilia, brother Yvon and sister Marie Rose.

She is survived by her children Wilfrid (Huguette), Jean Marc, Mario (Connie), Diane and Linda; grandchildren Marie, David, Sara, Marco, Maria, Michelle, Chanelle and Ang le; siblings Ambroise (Mariette), Raymonde, Yvonne, Larry (Leverne), Irene (Paul-Emile), Jeannine (Antoine), Madelaine (Claude), Pauline (Gordon), Rosaire (Therese), Nicole (Bertrand), Micheline (Ghislain), Lise (Richard), and Wilfrid (Susan).

The funeral was arranged by McDonald Funeral Home in Englehart with the service conduced by Father Roland Lapalme on June 17 at Earlton St. Jean Baptiste Church.

Pallbearers were grandsons David and Marco, granddaughters Marie and Sara, godchildren Claude Fortin and Joanne Cloutier. Honourary pallbearers were sons Jean Marc, Wilfrid, Mario and Jack Hill.

Relatives and friends attending the service came from Timmins, South Porcupine, Kirkland Lake, Matachewan, Elk Lake, Englehart, New Liskeard, Mississauga, Burlington, Stoney Creek, Sudbury, Pompano, Florida, Amos, Ottawa and North Bay.

In memory contributions were made to the Heart and Stroke Foundation and the Lung Association.

Kevin Ryan

Kevin Ryan of Charlton died June 16, 2004 at Mt. Sinai Hospital in Toronto. Complications arose after a successful bone marrow transplant.

He was born in Englehart on October 25, 1952 to Allen and Alacoque Ryan.

Educated at Savard Public School and Englehart High School, he married his wife Carolyn in Englehart on July 26, 1975.

Mr. Ryan was self-employed as a stone mason for approximately 30 years. He also worked at Adams Mine for 10 of those years.

Mr. Ryan enjoyed working in the masonry business alongside his sons. He learned the trade from his father-in-law John Martin Jr.

Mr. Ryan loved his family, his work and he adored his little granddaughters. He was very interested in history and wrote Sawdust to Ashes, the beginning of Charlton s history up to the fire that destroyed the town in 1922. He was also a member of the Masonic Lodge in Englehart.

He enjoyed agriculture and was president of the Ontario Association of Agriculture Societies in the 1980s.

Mr. Ryan is survived by his wife Carolyn; sons Dan (wife Khrissy) Ryan, Justin Ryan and Travis Ryan; granddaughters Dannee and Jenna Ryan; sister Catherine (Erik) Oja; brothers Morris (Pat) Ryan, Mike Ryan, Jerome (Janie) Ryan, Urban (Mary) Ryan; brother-in-law Cecil Mitchell; aunts Dorothy Ryan and Doris Sullivan; many cousins, nieces and nephews; mother-in-law Frieda Martin.

He was predeceased by his parents Allen and Alacoque Ryan; infant brother Anthony and infant sister Adrian Ryan; brother Leo Ryan; sister Marlene Mitchell; father-in-law John Martin Jr.

The funeral was arranged by McDonald Funeral Home in Englehart with the service conducted at Holy Trinity Catholic Church on June 21 by Father Des O Conner.

Pallbearers were Pat Ramesbottom, Keith Bond, Gerald Seguin, Mike Kingston, Doug Blackburn and Dale Macdonnell.

Burial is at the Englehart cemetery.

Relatives and friends attending the service came from Ottawa, North Bay, Sudbury, Massey, Haileybury, New Liskeard, Kirkland Lake, Englehart, Charlton, Toronto and Barrie.

In memory contributions to Princess Margaret Hospital Lodge in Toronto or to a charity of choice would be appreciated by the family.

Loretta Isobel Smith

Temiskaming Lodge resident Loretta Isobel Smith died June 15, 2004 at the Temiskaming Hospital.

She was born in Belle Vallee on June 11, 1926 to Mary and Michael Kirkey.

Educated in Belle Vallee, she married Murray Smith in New Liskeard in 1949.

Mrs. Smith worked as a bookkeeper/accountant for several businesses including Hill Clark Francis.

She was an avid knitter and had extensive gardens and she was active in sharing her many perennials.

Mrs. Smith, a member of Our Mother of Perpetual Help Church, is survived by her husband Murray, sons Bryan (Kathy) and Bruce (Pierette), brothers James and Vincent, sisters Marie, Theresa and Cecil, grandsons Christopher Smith, Wesley Smith, Brad Dawson and Tyler Dawson.

She was predeceased by her infant brother Leonard and brother Eugene Kirkey.

The funeral was arranged by Perrin Funeral Chapel and conducted at Our Mother of Perpetual Help Church by Fathers Lemire and Scully.

Pallbearers were Wayne Carter, Brad Dawson, Tyler Dawson, Chris Smith, Alex Mills and Robert MacPherson.

Burial is at the Roman Catholic cemetery on Dawson Point Road.

Relatives and friends attending the service from out of town came from British Columbia, Alberta, Toronto, Port Perry, Cochrane and Sudbury.

Evelyn Laplante

Evelyn Laplante of Belle Vall e died May 30, 2004 at the Temiskaming Hospital.

Mrs. Laplante (n e Pulchinski), a devoted housewife, had a great love of the outdoors (fishing) and a passion for her crocheting and quilting.

She is survived by her husband Maurice Laplante; sisters Margaret and Marie; children Jeannette, Jacqueline, Jean-Paul, Roger, Anicet and Daniel; numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Mrs. Laplante was predeceased by her son Robert.

The funeral was arranged by Perrin Funeral Chapel in New Liskeard.

Pallbearers were Jean-Paul Laplante, Anicet Laplante, Daniel Laplante, Maurice Chabot, Guylain Laplante and Marc Bibeau.

Cremation has occurred.

Relatives and friends from out of town came from Bouchette, Quebec, Montebello and area, Toronto, Cambridge, Brampton, Sudbury and Elliot Lake.

Phyllis (Gervais) Archer

Phyllis (Gervais) Archer died June 14, 2004 at the Temiskaming Hospital at the age of 68.

She was born on February 23, 1936 in Harley Township to Ray and Matilda (Robinson) Stewart.

Predeceased by her parents and her first husband Rheal Gervais, she is survived by her children Denise Bradford (Bert Morin), Claude, Danny (Nicole) and Guy (Darquise) Gervais; grandchildren Keith (Jennifer), John (Edith) and Derek Bradford, Michael, Jessica, Andrew, Gregory, Jeremy and Daniel Gervais; great-grandchildren Keitra, Dagon and Tyson Bradford; and special friend Larry Archer.

Cremation has occurred with interment to follow at the Catholic cemetery in New Liskeard.

Contributions in her memory may be made to the Northdale Manor Fund or the C.T. Scanner Fund at the Temiskaming Hospital.

Theodore Ted David Brown
The death occurred after a short illness at Sudbury General Hospital on Wednesday, November 17, 2004 of Mr. Theodore Ted David Brown at the age of 78 years.
Born at North Cobalt to the late Waldo and the late Christina Brown.
He was predeceased by his wife Lois (nee Ross) in 1982; brothers Lloyd, Mervin, Norris; and by his sister Bessy Richard.
Mr. Brown is survived by his loving children Tracey (and his wife Roseanne) and Linda (and her husband Steve). Also left to mourn are his grandchildren Tina, David, Mathew, Cory, Analisa and Shawn; great-grandson Rily; sisters Margaret McChesney, Carrie Birtch, Marilyn (Dave) Buchanen; and brothers Ed (Erica) Brown and Bob (Theresa) Brown.
Funeral arrangements were entrusted to Buffam L veill Funeral Home with a funeral service held on Saturday, November 20, 2004 at 2 p.m. with Reverend Kitty Miller officiating.
Interment followed at Mount Pleasant cemetery , Haileybury, Ontario.
Memorial contributions to the Heart and Stroke Foundation will be gratefully acknowledged.
Relatives and friends attended the service from St Catherines, Burlington, Barrie, North Bay and the Tri Town area.
Ted had been a sailor in the Merchant Marines. He was a member of the Prospectors Association and a lifetime member of the OHA. Ted s greatest passion was his children, grandchildren and great-grandson. He was an avid horseman and could always be found at a nearby racetrack.
Although Ted is no longer with us, he will sadly missed by his family.
Till we meet again.
