JOHNSON -- Virginia Johnson passed away on November 3, 1997 at the age of 66 years. She is survived by her loving husband Bill; two sons, Richard of Edmonton, and Brian of Calgary; and several nieces and nephews who knew Ginny as a "special" aunt. Virgina was predeceased by her parents, Ernie and Meda Bell and sister Kay Hilton. Ginny was born and raised in Shepherd, Alberta until she moved to Calgary to attend Central Collegiate Institute. Lived briefly in Edmonton, Red Deer and Ottawa and recently retired from Wernick & Co., Real Estate Appraisers. Special appreciation for their kindness and care to Home Care nurses, Carol Boyer and Fern Fast. A Memorial Service will be held at FOSTER'S FUNERAL HOME, 3220 - 4 Street N.W., on Thursday, November 6, 1997 at 3:00 p.m. with Rev. Garry Pearce officiating. If friends so desire, in lieu of floral tributes, donations may be made to Operation Eyesight Universal, 4 Parkdale Crescent N.W., Calgary T2N 3T8 or the Heart & Stroke Foundation of Alberta, 1825 Park Road S.E., Calgary T2G 3Y6 would be appreciated. KENT -- Gordon Arthur Kent passed away peacefully at the Penticton Hospital on November 2, 1997 at the age of 68 years. Survived by his loving wife Ferne of Penticton; children, Steve (Diane) of Sooke, BC, Greg of Calgary, AB, Judy Kent of Penticton, BC, Diane (Ray) of Squim, WA; four grandchildren, Nick, Raymond, Collin, Kelsey; mother Diane Kindt of Calgary, AB; mother-in-law Mildred Wiltse of Penticton. A private family Graveside Service will be held on Wednesday, November 5, 1997 at Lakeview Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Canadian Diabetes Association, No. 35 Westminster Avenue East, Penticton, BC V2A 1H7 or the Kidney Foundation, P.O. Box 22039, Penticton, BC V2A 8L1. MAMRAK -- Pearl Mamrak, beloved wife of Mr. Anthony Mamrak of Calgary, passed away at the Foothills Hospital on October 31, 1997, at the age of 70 years. She is the loving mother of Mary-Ann Payne of Slave Lake, Alberta, Deborah Mamrak of Medicine Hat, Alberta, and Thomas Mamrak of Calgary. Pearl is also survived by her ten loving grandchildren, and by her sister Louise Voter of Milo, Alberta. She is predeceased by her two brothers, John and Ernest. Graveside Services will be held at Mountain View Memorial Gardens Cemetery on Wednesday, November 5, 1997, at 11:00 a.m. Arrangements entrusted to MOUNTAIN VIEW CEMETERY and FUNERAL HOME, 17 Avenue S.E. at Garden Road (3 km East of 68 Street S.E.). McALLISTER -- Anne Elisabeth McAllister passed away in her home on October 31, 1997 at the age of 72 years. She is survived by her three daughters, Gabriele, Barbara, Kathy; and her son John. In the words of her youngest grandson, Brendan, "Oma loved her family and she was a great cook. She liked to entertain and she liked good music. We all really loved her. She was fun-loving and full of beauty, charm and affection." Funeral Services will be held at Sacred Heart Catholic Church, 1307 - 14 Street S.W., on Friday, November 7, at 10:30 a.m., with the Reverend Jesus Timajo officiating. McKECHNIE -- Mr. James Mohr (Jim) McKechnie of Calgary, passed away at the Chinook Care Centre on November 1, 1997 at the age of 82 years. Jim was born in Camrose, Alberta on January 21, 1915 and came to Calgary in 1917. He joined the Canadian Armed Forces in 1939 and served during the Second World War. Jim was a life member of the Loyal Orange Lodge No. 2980 and a member of the Royal Canadian Legion Branch No. 1. He will be lovingly remembered by his numerous nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his father Hiram in 1943, his mother Effie in 1951, and his brother and sisters. Funeral Services will be held at First Alliance Church (1201 Glenmore Trail S.W.), on Wednesday, November 5, 1997 at 2:00 p.m. Graveside Service to follow in the family plot at Burnsland Cemetery. McLEOD -- Ethel Elizabeth McLeod passed away at the Foothills Hospital on October 31, 1997 at the age of 70 years. Ethel is survived by her children, Bill and his wife Sharon, Blaine and his wife Lynn, Brenda and her husband Bob, and Lyle and his wife Kirsten; and grandchildren, Heather, Stephen, Scot, Christopher, Alison and Callum. She is also survived by her sister Isabel, and brothers, Blake and Jim. Ethel was predeceased by her husband Earl. Ethel was born in Langham, Saskatchewan and has resided in Calgary since 1971. The family wishes to express their gratitude to friends, neighbours at Horizon Village Varsity and care-givers who have given her so much comfort and companionship. PASCOE -- Wendy Edna Marie Pascoe of Calgary, passed away suddenly at the Peter Lougheed Centre on November 1, 1997 at the age of 47 years. Wendy will be lovingly remembered by her daughter Kelly Jo; her father Tom Pascoe; her brother Wade (Darlene); her special friend Garry Davis; and by her many aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. She was predeceased by her mother Dorothy in 1996. PERMANN -- Lucille Permann, beloved wife of Mr. Ben Permann of Calgary, passed away at the Peter Lougheed on November 1, 1997, at the age of 67 years. She is the loving mother of Sandra (Doug) Saunders of Airdrie, AB and Barry (Marilyn) Permann of Calgary; her five grandchildren, Carly, Jennifer, Lindsay, Brock and Dana. Lucille is also survived by her sister Diana (Jim) Gray of Calgary, as well as numerous nieces and nephews. Funeral Services will be held from the Chapel of MOUNTAIN VIEW FUNERAL HOME on Wednesday, November 5, 1997 at 3:00 p.m. with Rev. Sam Sherman of the Centre Street Church officiating. SMITH -- Irene (nee Lengyel) passed away at the Peter Lougheed Hospital on November 3, 1997 at the age of 72 years. Irene is survived by her loving husband Archie; and three sons, Lorne (Marcia), Gary (Rose) and Stacy (Sandra); and grandchildren, Laverne (Terry), Jolene, Braden and Autumn. Irene is also survived by her loving sisters, Mary, Betty, Anne and Julia. Irene was born in Hungary and immigrated to Canada in 1928. She was raised in Rosedale, Alberta and moved to Calgary in 1939. The family wishes to express their gratitude to the caregivers for their support in the last few weeks of Irene's life. TANCU -- Mr. Gheorghe (George) Tancu of Calgary, passed away peacefully at the Bow Crest Nursing Home on Saturday, November 1, 1997 at the age of 92 years. George was born on June 16, 1905 in Kishinew. He held a M.Sc. in Finance and a Ph.D. in Law. He resided in Kishinew, Bucharest, and Calgary. George is survived by his loving wife of fifty-two years, Ana; his loving daughter Elena Tzanco; two nephews, Alex Betiu and his wife Ellen along with their daughters, Christina and Andreea, and Michael Betiu all of Calgary. Also numerous other relatives and friends in France and the U.S. Relatives and friends are invited to Prayers on Monday, November 3, 1997 at 7:00 p.m. at LEYDEN'S Chapel of Remembrance, 17 Avenue and 2 Street S.W., Father Michael Lupu officiating. Funeral Services to be held today at 10:00 a.m. at St. Mary's Romanian Orthodox Church, 4727 - 17 Avenue N.W. Graveside Services to follow at Queen's Park Cemetery. TANNAS -- Theodore (Ted). It is with great sorrow that the family announce the passing of Ted Tannas, beloved husband, father and grandfather, on November 3, 1997 at the age of 77 years. Ted was born at Torquay, Saskatchewan on June 21, 1920 and has resided in High River since 1951. He will be lovingly remembered by his wife of forty-eight years, Audrey Tannas, of High River; his daughters, Judy (Dwight) Borger, Okotoks, Deborah (Michael) Melnyk, Calgary; his sons, Doug (Shannon) Tannas and Lloyd (Lori) Tannas, all of High River; and six grandchildren, Toby and Graydon Tannas, Gunnar and Dustin Tannas, Spencer and Samantha Melnyk. He is also survived by his sisters, Thelma (Rae) Lunn, High River, Lorraine Kimmett, Canmore, and Evelyn (Don) Askew, Victoria; his brother Don (Lily) Tannas, Water Valley; sister-in-law Eunice Tannas, Marwayne; and many nieces and nephews. Ted was predeceased by his parents, Gunnar in 1963, Anna in 1988 and his brothers, Alfred in 1996, Carl in 1986 and Oscar in 1995. Funeral Services will be held at the High River United Church on Thursday, November 6, at 2:00 p.m., the Rev. Susan Lukey officiating. Interment will follow at Rocky View Garden of Peace, Calgary.
