Gaynor -- Charlotte Yvonne (Hourie)
1953 - 2003
Charlotte was born November 14, 1953 in Melfort, SK. She was a beloved daughter, sister, mother, auntie and friend. Charlotte passed away April 10, 2003 after a courageous battle with cancer at the Drumheller Hospital with family and friends around her. Charlotte leaves behind her son, Peter Gaynor; daughter Tara Lee Michele (Gaynor) Hodge, wife of Melvin Hodge of Drumheller; Mother, Evelyn Hourie of Nacmine; brother Barry Hourie, wife Linda, children, Philip, Colin of Ft. McMurray and son Michael Leblanc; sister Marty Hourie - Peebles and children Justin, Jeremy and Jarit of Nacmine. Also brother Ed Jeeves and children Craig, Colleen and families in Regina, SK. And also numerous uncles, aunts and cousins. Charlotte was predeceased by her father Roy Llewellyn Hourie and many loved ones who she now joins in the Father's hands. Charlotte was a Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) at the Drumheller Nursing Home. She loved her work and the friends she made while working there, it was her second home. Charlotte was dedicated to her family and loved by many. She had a special fondness for all of the dogs, cats and all the wildlife that's on God's earth. Charlotte will be greatly missed by her family and friends, she was well liked and loved and we'll miss her. Charlotte had a strong faith and love of Jesus and we know we will see her again. Services for Charlotte were held at the Church of the Nazarene with Rev. Pastor Wayne McCrackin (also a very special friend) presiding. The proceedings were held at 1 p.m. April 14, 2003 with luncheon at the Nacmine Community Hall. The family would like to thank all the people who shared in this journey and comforted them. A very special thanks to Dr. Racz and Tricia Hutchison and all the staff and friends at the Drumheller Hospital. Charlotte you are loved and missed. Until we meet again. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to the family.

Hands -- Florence
1911 - 2003
Florence Hands of Calgary, AB passed away peacefully at the Southwood Care Centre, surrounded by her family, on April 16, 2003 at the age of 91 years. Born in Shoal Lake, MB, Florence's family moved to Delia, AB in the early 1920s. She attended Calgary Normal School. She met her husband Orval in Delia, where they were married in 1930. Florence and Orval farmed in Delia for many years, and Florence also taught school at Springwater and Majestic schools. In 1960, they moved to Drumheller, AB, where she continued to teach until her retirement in 1976. Florence was an active member of her church and community. She was a member of the Women's Institute, Anglican Women's Guild, Eastern Star, and P.E.O. She loved to play bridge, mousel, and enjoyed gardening, playing piano, traveling and entertaining friends. Her family will fondly remember the July 1st celebrations that she would organize. They will also remember her knack for barbequing. Most of all, they will remember her wonderful laugh and positive attitude. Florence is survived by her children, Ron and Helen of Calgary, Don and Corinne of Whitecourt, AB, Bob and Gloria of Kelowna, BC, and Judy Ries of Calgary, eleven grandchildren, and thirteen great grandchildren. She was predeceased by her husband Orval in 1971, grandchildren Dale in 1958, and Dana in 1987, a sister Violet, and brother George. Funeral Services will be held at St. Magloire's Anglican Church (176-2 Street W., Drumheller, AB) on Monday, April 21, 2003 at 2:00 p.m. Graveside Service to follow at Drumheller Cemetery. February 2, 1915 - April 18, 2003
(A Mother's heart is a garden of love)
Carrie, beloved mother of Bill (Donna); grandma of Michael (Lori), Greg (Virginia) and great grandma (Baba) of Ashley, Alyssa, Jessica, Kurtis & Kristian, peacefully passed away at the Drumheller Hospital Friday, April 18, 2003. Carrie will be lovingly remembered by family and friends; her sister, Bella (Len); sisters-in-law, Agnes, Lil and Laverne. She was predeceased by her husband Nick, her parents Katrina and Mike; sisters Isabel, Lily and Olga; brothers, Bill, Andy and Ernie. Special thanks to Dr. Graham and staff, nurses at Drumheller Hospital and Home Care. A celebration of Carrie's life will be held at Knox United Church, 195 - 3 Ave. East, Drumheller, on Wednesday, April 23 at 1 p.m. In lieu of flowers please make donations to the Cancer Society. Bramley -- Eleanor (Ward/Peterson)
1918 - 2003
Bramley-Eleanor (Ward/Petersen) passed away peacefully on April 25, 2003 at the Drumheller Continuing Care Nursing Home at the age of 84. She was predeceased by husbands Walter (Bernie) Ward in 1968 and Harold Bramley in 1989, son Don Ward in 2002, grandson Kyle Rouleau in 1993, sisters Ione Petersen and Geneva Larson and brother Harold Peterson. She is survived by brothers Les Petersen and Fred Petersen of Colorado. Eleanor was born in Grainger, Alberta on June 20, 1918 to Agnes and Charles Petersen. She returned to Colorado with her parents at the age of two years and lived in the United States until returning to the Carbon area at the age of 19. She married Bernie Ward in May 1941. They had 6 children Don (Evelyn) Ward of Medicine Hat, Judie (Derwood) McLeod of Hidden Valley, Irvin Ward of Calgary, Donna (Bob) Lessard of Port Alberni, BC, Sharon (Glenn) Chambers of Fort McMurray, and Denice (Yvon) Rouleau of Drumheller. She is also survived by a step-son Brent (Tina) Bramley of Calgary and a step-daughter Evanne (Bill) Stecewicz of Calgary, 14 grandchildren and 8 great-grandchildren as well as numerous nieces and nephews. Funeral Services will be held on Saturday, May 3, 2003 at Courtney-Winter's Funeral Chapel in Drumheller at 11:00 a.m. with interment to follow at Chinook Cemetery. If friends so desire memorial tributes may be made directly to the Kidney Foundation of Canada. Courtney-Winter's Funeral Chapel entrusted with arrangements.

Ewing -- James Leonard
1918 - 2003
James Leonard Ewing passed away peacefully, in the presence of his wife and some of his family, on Friday, April 25, 2003, at the Bethany Care Centre, Harvest Hills in Calgary, AB at the age of 84 years. Jim was born on the homestead farm near Drumheller, AB on October 2, 1918. He served in the army during World War II for four years, 1941 to 1945. He returned to the family farm near Drumheller where he farmed for thirty years in the Verdant Valley District. After moving to Calgary in 1975 he worked in real estate and property management until his retirement. Jim Loved the Lord and was always active in his local church, serving in many leadership positions. He will be remembered for his quick smile and hearty laugh. He was a great storyteller, remembering every detail. He was very generous and always willing to help someone in need. Jim will be dearly missed by his loving wife of almost sixty-two years, Glenys, who was daily at his side caring for him; two sons and two daughters-in-law, Merle and Shirley Ewing, and Eric and Debbie Ewing of Calgary; three daughters and three sons-in-law, Trudy and Phil Reist, Ila and Wayne Beagles, all of Calgary, and Joyce and Wayne Sylvester of Surrey, BC; as well as twenty grandchildren and three great grandchildren. Jim was predeceased by a daughter Rita Ewing in 1973; and a daughter-in-law Majoree Ewing in 1998. Jim will also be missed by a brother and a sister-in-law, Andy and Helen Ewing of Victoria, BC; three sisters and two brothers-in-law, Alice Boudreau, Irene and Frank Wilson, all of Calgary, and Dorothy and Jimmy Duguid of Castor, AB; a brother-in-law and sister-in-law Don and Tanya Day of Edmonton; two sisters-in-law, Margaret Ewing of Three Hills, AB and Rose Ewing of Beaverlodge, AB; as well as numerous nephews and nieces. Jim was also predeceased by three brothers, Roy, Tom, and Louis Ewing; a sister Edna Day; and a brother-in-law Bernie Boudreau. Pugh -- Joseph Edward
1921 - 2003
Joseph Edward Pugh of Dorothy, Alberta passed away in Drumheller, Alberta on April 17, 2003 at the age of 81. Ed was born in Drumheller on September 24, 1921. He was the eldest son of six children. Ed joined the army in 1941, he was then sent to London, Ontario where he met his wife Edna Mcleod. In 1943 he returned to Alberta with his new beautiful bride. They settled in the Fish Lake area and started their family. Later they moved down to Dorothy where they built the ranch of their dreams. He watched his five children grow and leave home to start a life of their own. He was proud of all his children and the lives that they have built for themselves. Ed loved to go out and saddle up his best friend and ride through his cattle. Ranching was the life style that many dream about and Ed was able to live that life. He lived this life with pride. He was a true cowboy. His ranch life lead him to the life of rodeo. He joined the Calgary Stampede crew in 1946 and never retired until early 2003. He enjoyed all aspects of the production of the Stampede. He began working with the rough stock, then moved into the judging of the Chuck wagons and then he took over the job of flagging the rough stock out of the chutes during the performances. Always smiling and enjoying the long days. He was the Trail boss for the Trail '87, he was a proud leader of the bucking horses from the Stampede Ranch near Hanna, Alberta to the Rodeo grounds in Calgary. Always making sure that all horses and his fellow cowboys were looked after properly and fed. In 2000 he was honored with leading the pack again in a trail ride to Calgary. He never turned down an offer to fulfill his life long dreams, if there was a horse for him he was there. He loved to ride across the open prairie and see all of the things that fulfilled his dreams. In July of 2002 Ed was inducted into the Rancher's Hall of Fame in High River. Ed was known for his true love for ranching and rodeos. Ed is survived by his loving children and their families -- Barry (Donna) Randall from Ottawa and their children - Karen, Jay and Jeff; Linda (Ron) Miller from Chinook and their children - Darcy (Kathy), Rhonda (Kelly), Janice, Tanis (Doug), Roxann and Rocky; Norman (Mary Anne) Pugh from Dorothy and their children - Tina (Craig), Theresa and Tammy; Carl (Milly) from Claresholm and their children - Brian, Stacie, Nikki and Breanna; Joan Pugh from Hanna; and by his 12 great-grandchildren. He will also be greatly missed by his brothers Bruce (Marge) Pugh, Gordon (Bernice) Pugh, Bill (Lorraine) Pugh; and sister Donna (Lloyd) Rivett; and sister-in-law May Pugh; and by his many friends and neighbors. Ed is predeceased by his wife Edna Pugh, parents Fred and Vera Pugh, brother Howard Pugh, son-in-law Ken Campion, daughter-in-law Su Randall and granddaughter Tanya Pugh. Funeral services were held at the Drumheller Rodeo Grounds at 2 p.m. on Tuesday, April 22, 2003. Personal Alternatives Funeral Services were in charge of funeral arrangements. In lieu of flowers, donations may be sent to the Canadian Pro Rodeo Sport Medicine Team 2430 - 26 St. S.W. Calgary, Alberta T2E 2A7 or the CPRA Benefit Fund #223 2116 - 27 Ave. N.E. Carr -- Margaret
Margaret Carr, beloved mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother passed away on April 12, 2003 at the Drumheller Continuing Care Facility at the age of 78 years. Margaret Carr was born in Duxton, England on September 30, 1924. She was predeceased by her husband Frank Carr in 1988. She is survived by her son David Carr and special friend, Mandy, of Drumheller; her daughters, Shirley (Duane) Bjorgan of Drumheller and Lynda (Roland) Parent of Manitoba. She also leaves to mourn, six treasured grandchildren and one great grandson. Margaret grew up in England, and with her husband and family travelled to Canada in 1957, arriving in Ottawa, Ontario. Margaret and family moved to Drumheller in 1967, leaving in 1970, and retiring back in Drumheller in 1987. Wherever Margaret travelled she made a wonderful home for her family and had many, many treasured friends. She was an avid reader, loved to knit and her favourite activity was watching Coronation Street (an English show) on TV. She was called "The Queen" by the staff at the Continuing Care and loved to be teased by them. She also loved to keep the staff of the Continuing Care facility on their toes. A private family burial will be held on Thursday, April 17, 2003 at 2 o'clock. Friends and family are invited to attend a luncheon at the Royal Canadian Legion in Drumheller at 3 p.m. If friends so desire, donations may be made in her memory to the Drumheller Continuing Care Facility. Courtney-Winter's Funeral Chapel entrusted with the arrangements.

Harder -- Loretta Ann
Loretta Ann Harder passed away at the Drumheller Hospital on April 12, 2003 after a courageous struggle with cancer. A Graveside Service will be held at the Carbon Cemetery on Wednesday, April 16, 2003 at 1:00 p.m. Memorial Donations may be made to the Tom Baker Cancer Centre.

Hetherington -- Hilda
Hilda Hetherington passed away peacefully on April 7, 2003 at the Drumheller Continuing Care Centre at the age of 93 years. She is survived by her 2 sons, Harry of Morrin and Harold of Hamburg, Germany, daughter Helga of Hamburg, Germany as well as numerous other family members and friends. Hilda was predeceased by her husband Arnold and son Adolph. The family would like to thank Pat Montgomery as well as all of the staff of the Drumheller Continuing Care Centre. Jenkins -- Jean Irene Rose (SAPRIKIN), beloved wife of the late Kenneth Jenkins, formerly of Port Hardy, BC, passed away at the Alberta Rose Lodge in Lethbridge on Monday, April 14, 2003 at the age of 68 years. She is the loving mother of -- Thomas (Jody) Grant, Edward Jr. Saprikin, Deborah Ward, Daniel (Charlotte) Saprikin, James (Linda) Saprikin, and Jennifer (Oscar) Cotton. She leaves behind 13 grandchildren, and one brother, John Smith of Oklahoma. Jean was predeceased by her parents, Henry and Emily Smith; her husband Kenneth Jenkins; two infant sons; and three grandchildren. Funeral Services will be held on Thursday, April 17, 2003 at 10:00 a.m. at CHRISTENSEN SALMON FUNERAL HOME, 327-10 Street South, Lethbridge. Laslop -- Emma (Nee -- Knapp)
Beloved mother, grandmother, sister and aunt, passed away with wonderful peace on Saturday, April 12th after a lengthy illness. She has gone to join her much loved husband Joe, her parents and her grandson Jeffery. Her daughters Trudy and Eleanor and their families as well as her sister Erna and her family will have a huge void in their lives but knowing her suffering has ended makes it easier to bear. Mom was always there for her friends and they have certainly been there for her and us. In respect of Mom's wishes, there will be no Funeral or Memorial Service. Moffatt -- James Herbert (Jim)
1926-2003
Age 76 passed away peacefully at the Drumheller hospital on Friday, April 11, 2003 at 4 -- 10 P.M. after a short but courageous battle against cancer. Jim was proud of his Manitoba farm roots, his 27 years Canadian Military career including 2 assignments in Europe, and his membership in the Korean War and Veterans Association. He also worked for the Drumheller Penitentiary. Jim dearly loved his family and friends and the faith he was coming to know. He loved working on his vegetable garden, puttering around the house and was proud to have served his country. He was a kind, generous and gentle man. He will be sadly missed and lovingly remembered by his wife Charmaine, his son Michael, his daughter Beryl and grandsons James and Jeffrey. He is also survived by his sisters Myrtle (Daniel Fitzpatrick), Beulah (Albert Edge) and Edith and all his extended family. Funeral mass was held from St. Anthony's Roman Catholic Church on Tuesday, April 15, 2003 at 11:00 a.m. A Legion Poppy ceremony and cremation followed. "We will meet again."

Rudolph -- Kathleen
Kathleen M. Rudolph, a long time resident of the Munson area, passed away peacefully at the age of 106. She was predeceased by her husband Frank, and her daughter Patricia Jackson. Kay is survived by her daughter Frances Jones, Calgary; and son Jim Rudolph, Edmonton; and an extended progeny. Private Services were held in Calgary on Wednesday, April 16, 2003. Schaffer -- Reta Agnes
December 9, 1914 - March 28, 2003
Reta Agnes Schaffer, long time resident of Drumheller, Newcastle and Rosedale, passed away in Continuing Care at the Drumheller Hospital on March 28, 2003. Reta found joy in her love of family and friends, birds, animals, gardening and handicrafts. Reta will be lovingly remembered by her daughter Pat Dalton, daughter-in-law Kathy Schaffer; her grandchildren, Don (Janis) Schaffer, Leona (Bruce) Nadeau and Lynn Dalton; great grandchildren, Nick Marra, Sydney and Robert Schaffer and Nathan Marra; her sisters, Vivian Campbell and Viola (Chris) Lowen; brothers, Don (Betty), Bob (Emily) and Jack (Donna) Campbell; numerous nieces, nephews and friends. She was predeceased by her husband Steve and son Jack; sister Vera (Arnold) Windsor and brother Stan (Elizabeth) Campbell. A Memorial Service will be held at Courtney-Winter's Funeral Chapel on Saturday, April 26, 2003 at 2 p.m. Lunch to follow at the Drumheller Inn.
