DONALDSON -- Mr. Gordon Leon Donaldson passed away peacefully, December 26, 1997, after a lengthy and courageous battle with cancer at the age of 67. Gordon was born in Lethbridge, Alberta on November 1, 1930 and was raised in the town of Claresholm. He obtained a degree in Civil Engineering from the University of Alberta in 1952 and began his career as a Project Engineer involved with highway planning and construction in the province upon graduation. He went on to become a Senior Planner with the City of Calgary for several years before establishing a private land development consulting practice. During the last twenty years he continued to be active on a semi-retired basis in land development and real estate investing. Gordon was a deeply religious and charitable man with a special passion for the poor and the religiously persecuted. That personal ministry began in his home church where he started taking children to Sunday School in his Volkswagon bus and it eventually took on international proportions through the Gordon Donaldson Missionary Foundation to countries like India, Hungary, Romania, China, Estonia, the Ukraine and finally the former Russia. He packed shoe boxes with dry goods to send to African children for ten years, continuing that work up until only a few weeks ago. His compassion and generosity also involved an executive position with Internation Russian Radio and Television, an organization that transmits Russian language radio and television gospel programs it produces in Finland over several international radio stations into the former Soviet Union.
