Waterfield, Ronald James Tuesday, 22 Jan 2008
Courtenay, BC
July 28, 1968 - January 22, 2008
Suddenly taken from us on Tuesday, January 22nd. He will be lovingly missed and remembered by his wife Nadine Clarke; son Curtis and daughters Jayla and Shylane of Comox; parents Gary and Janet Waterfield of Cumberland; brother Gordon Waterfield of Courtenay; grandfather Jim Evans of Courtenay; and numerous aunts, uncles, nieces and nephews.
Ron was born and raised in Cumberland, BC. This unique place of his boyhood shaped and molded him into the charismatic person he was. On any given day of his youth, one could find Ron mastering his growing self on the playing fields, dirt biking in the coal hills, getting into mischief with his buddies, digging up treasures from Cumberland's past, or gathering usable junk to fabricate some kind of speed machine. Much of his wisdom was nurtured at his mom and dad's kitchen table. Ron's nature and moral code were a true reflection of his mother and father and their strong beliefs. As one friend has described, "He was one of the finest human beings I've ever met."
As a father, Ron was immensely proud of his children, Jayla, Shylane and Curtis and aspired to teach them what he knew about respect for self and others. He believed in his children's abilities to reach their potential and to create fulfilling lives for themselves. They miss him deeply. As a husband, Ron was an absolute sweetheart of a man who enriched his wife's spirit with his love.
Ron had a great zest for life, lived his to the fullest and took great pride in his work as a professional faller. He had a strong work ethic and was always safety conscious. He was a leader among men, and a team player who knew how to create morale with his co-workers. Ron held a deep respect for the woods. Mercifully, his life was taken instantly, while doing what he loved.
When he wasn't in the bush, Ron's fun-loving side shone through, as did his many talents. He shared his passion for cooking with memorable meals for family and friends. He was also an outdoorsman. Ron enjoyed hunting, fishing, boating, dirt biking, four wheel driving and snowmobiling. He was generous of spirit and was commonly found lending a helping hand to family, friends and strangers alike.
Ron was one of the last cowboys. He was a fierce protector, a true hearted family man, "The minister of fun". He was a master storyteller and a knee-slappin' joker who loved to laugh and had the makings of a wonderful granddad. He was an easy guy to be with because he was at ease with himself and who he was. Ron was the genuine article.
Ron's family extend their gratitude for all the compassion and support that surrounds them during this deeply sad time, thank you.
A Celebration of Ron's life will be planned for this coming summer. Details will be later announced.

Wade, Norm Friday, 06 Jun 2008
Vernon, BC
February 15th, 1922 - June 6th, 2008
Norman Eric Wade was born in Sullivan, B.C. where his grandfather, Edmund, homesteaded during the 1870’s. Eric and Beatrice Wade, Norm’s mother and father, are remembered in the Cloverdale area as long time members of Christ Church Anglican.
Norm and his brother and sisters attended school in Cloverdale. From an early age he worked in the coastal logging industry, moving to Aspen Grove, B.C. in 1946 to start his own sawmill operation, Wade Lumber Company. In 1949, Norm married Lorraine Parker and they had two children, Eric and Karen.
During 1958, Norm began operation of Echo Valley Ranch. He purchased his first Angus heifers from Gilroy and Stevens in 1960 and during that same year he joined the Canadian Angus Association as a life member. In 1962, Norm sold Echo Valley Ranch to Douglas Lake Cattle Company and purchased a 400 acre ranch in Coldstream, B.C. He moved his herd and family there that same year.
Kalamal Angus became a respected herd name over the next 12 years.
Norm was influential in the Canadian Angus Association; working as a director starting in 1965 and becoming president in 1972. The ranch sold in 1973 and Norm built a family home on a 12 acre hayfield adjacent to the original ranch. He continued his devotion to Angus cattle; promoting the breed as B.C. Angus fieldman over the next 35 years.
His work with the 4-H Clubs throughout B.C., inspiring the youth in agriculture and teaching them the skills of making rope halters, gave him a lot of pleasure and proved to be some of the happiest times of his life. We will miss watching him hand out his calf halters to all club members. Norm spent hours making halters which are used today on cattle province wide.
Norm was an active hunter and fisherman his whole life. He enjoyed many trips duck hunting on the prairies and deer hunting throughout B.C. Norm and Lorraine also traveled throughout Canada and the U.S. in their Ford Econovan.
Norm’s travels in Alberta and Saskatchewan got him involved in the petroleum and gas industry. He was on the board of directors of Tappit Resources Ltd. from 1987 until 2003. His many wonderfully told stories of things he’d seen over the years and his practical wisdom were always appreciated at the boardroom table, at the desks of Tappit’s employees and at steak dinners at the Hotel Sask. & Golf’s Steak House.
Norm was a kind hearted and loving man who devoted his life to Lorraine and his family. On the morning of Friday, June 6th, 2008 Norm passed away peacefully at his home in his 86th year. He is survived by his loving wife Lorraine, his devoted children, Eric and Karen, sisters, Bernice and Louise, and cousins, Dorothy and Mary. He will be fondly remembered by many nieces, nephews, extended family and friends.
A celebration of Norm’s life will be held at the Prestige Hotel, 4411 – 32nd Street, Vernon, B.C. on Monday, June 23rd, 2008 at 12 noon. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Norm’s memory to the Grasslands Conservation Council of B.C., 954 Laval Crescent., Kamloops, B.C. V2C 5P5 or to the Heart and Stroke Foundation, #202 – 3402-27th Avenue, Vernon, B.C., V1T 1S1.
Arrangements have been entrusted to: Pleasant Valley Funeral Home, 4303 Pleasant Valley Road Vernon, B.C. V1T 4M4.
