With her loving family by her side, Barbara Joyce Quigley, following a brief battle with cancer, passed away on June 4th, 2008 at Hospice House, Vernon, BC. Born December 6th, 1932 in Sidcup, England, Barbara came to Canada in 1950. She married Michael Quigley in Vancouver, BC in 1956. In 1975 Barbara, Michael and family moved to Vernon from Abbotsford and in more recent years have lived in Edgewood. Barbara was a dedicated wife, mother and grandmother. She will be lovingly remembered by her husband, Michael, to whom she was married for 52 years; her children: Douglas (Brenda), Daniel (Shauna), Steve (Bridget), Kerry (Sharon) and Colleen (Dean). Her grandchildren: Patrick, Melissa, Shannon, Megan, Brandon, Matthew, Anya, Oscar, Harriet, Rory and Benjamin will fondly remember their Nana. Special pets Barney, Chevy and Zoe will miss Barbara. By request there will be no service. In lieu of flowers, those wishing to do so may make a memorial donation in Barbara’s memory to Vernon & District Hospice Society, 3506 – 27th Avenue, Vernon, BC V1T 1S4.

Mary Potts, at the age of 47, after a long and courageous battle with cancer is now in the arms of her God, passing away peacefully on June 4, 2008. Mary will be lovingly remembered by her husband of 20 years, Alan, her beautiful daughters Shelley, Samantha and Shayla, her parents Bill and Fong Quon, her brothers Ken and Ben Kwong, her mother-in-law Velma Potts, her sisters-in-law Laurie Lemon, Paula Kwong, and Judy Potts, her brothers-in-law Phil Lemon and Gord Potts, her nieces Andrea Lemon and Jenny Hansen, her nephews Jason and Stuart Kwong, many other family members and many loving friends.
Mary was born in Prince Albert, Saskatchewan, raised in Vancouver, BC, and moved to Vernon with her husband in 1987. Mary was a dedicated nurse, earning both a Psychiatric Nursing and Registered Nursing Diploma. Mary was fulfilled caring for people at Vernon Jubilee Hospital.
Mary devoted herself to raising and guiding her three loving daughters. Her love for her children will always be treasured.
Mary’s kindness and gracefulness touched all that knew her.
A celebration of life will be held at Peace Lutheran Church at 1:00 p.m. on Monday, June 9th. In lieu of flowers, donations to the Leukemia/Bone Marrow Transplant Program of BC, 10th Floor, 2775 Laurel Street, Vancouver, BC V5Z 1M9, would be appreciated.

Rita Elizabeth Taylor passed away peacefully at Vernon on June 3, 2008. Predeceased by husband John Walter Taylor, son Lance Wayne Taylor and granddaughter Susan Elizabeth Taylor, Rita will be sadly missed by four daughters Betty Marion of Vernon, Patty (Tom) Sheldon of Vernon, Peggy (John) Hall of Penticton and Faye (Bill Haworth of Vernon; two sons John Robert (Judy) Taylor of Pickering, On. and Mark (Maria) Taylor of Vernon; nineteen grandchildren; twenty-two great grandchildren; brother George (Doris) Allard of Winnipeg; numerous nieces, nephews and friends.
Rita was born on November 19, 1921, at The Pas, Manitoba. She moved to BC and lived in various communities before settling in Vernon fifty-five years ago. Rita was active in the business community when she and husband Jack owned Taylor Service and Repair. Her interests included cards, bingo, square dancing, music and travel. Family was also very important to Rita and she was greatly loved by her children and extended family.
Prayers will be held 7:00 p.m., Tuesday, June 10. Funeral Mass will be celebrated 1:00 p.m., Wednesday, June 11, 2008, at St. James Catholic Church, Vernon. Father Martin Peyton, Celebrant.

Malaina Pheonix Zeolkowski was carried from us by angels and placed lovingly into the arms of Jesus on June 2nd, 2008.
Malaina will be forever loved and cherished by her parents, Grady & Kara-Lee Zeolkowski; two brothers, Zakarius and Mykelti; one sister, Angelique; her maternal grandparents, Rowena & Norm Chow and Orlin & Yolanda Toews, all of Vernon, B.C.; her paternal grandparents, Harold & Cheryl Zeolkowski of Cherryville, B.C.; her great-grandparents, Ethel Zeolkowski of Cherryville, B.C., Isaac & Elsie Esau of Chilliwack, B.C. and Anna Toews of Linden, Alberta; and many extended family members.
A private Graveside Service was held at the Pleasant Valley Cemetery on Wednesday, June 4th, 2008 at 2:00 P.M. As an expression of sympathy, those who wish to do so may send donations in memory of Malaina to Minutes of Gold.

Frederick “Fred” Arthur Marshell Luddington passed away peacefully in the Vernon Jubilee Hospital on June 1st, 2008 after a brief illness at the age of 84 years. Fred is survived by his loving family: companion Dona McBain of Enderby, two daughters, Wendy LaRonde of Crofton, B.C. and Judy Whiffin (Mel Johnston) of Abbotsford, B.C., four grandchildren; Andy LaRonde, Stephen Whiffin (Jennifer), Dawn Whiffin and Mike LaRonde, three great grandchildren, Landon Whiffin, Taylor LaRonde, Quentin Whiffin and one niece Jackie Wheeler. He was pre-deceased by his parents and one brother, Andrew.
A Celebration of Life will be held on Friday, June 6th, 2008 at 2:00 p.m. from the chapel of Pleasant Valley Funeral Home with Pastor Sean Wong officiating.
A reception will follow in the Pleasant Valley Tea Room. Harry passed away peacefully in Comox, B.C. on March 26, 2008. He is survived by his wife Joan. No funeral by request. A memorial tea will take place Saturday, April 12th, 2008 from 11:00 am to 2:00 pm at the Jordan residence at 647 Moralee Drive, Courtenay.

On Easter Monday, March 24, 2008, Sylvia Beatrice (Bea) Knap went to be with Jesus and her husband, George, at the age of 78 years.
She is lovingly remembered and honored by daughters: Kathleen (Pat) McManus of Surrey, Colleen (Ross) Gajda of Courtenay, Barb (John) Robinson of Courtenay, Georgina (Thomas) Longhi of North Vancouver; and two grandchildren, Dustin and Tirzah Robinson; sisters, Pat (Ken) Diehl, Gerry (George) Nestor, Shirley (Lloyd) Hedden; and brother, Dick (Mid) Bendeler; special friends, Jean and Jake Krahn as well as numerous extended family and friends.
“Bea” lived with her husband, George, in their Burnaby family home since it was built in 1954 and took immense pleasure in her daughters, their husbands and the grandchildren. Family occasions meant the most to her and she loved to prepare large meals for them. “Bea” is remembered for her generous spirit and infectious laugh – to name a few of her attributes. She will be sorely missed by us all but we look forward to seeing her and dad again in heaven.
As mom was baptized in the Puntledge River, we will be gathering there to scatter her ashes.
Mom was very thankful for the equipment that the Red Cross was able to loan to her during her illness and so we request that donations be made to the Red Cross Loan Cupboard in Courtenay.
GREEN, Margaret "Fay" (Doucette) Monday, 24 Mar 2008

Fay battled lung cancer courageously for almost 2 years when on March 24th, 2008 she succumbed to her illness. Our mom is now at peace.
Fay was born in Comox, B.C. and remained in the Comox Valley until 1949 when her family moved to Lake Cowichan. She lived in Lake Cowichan for 7 years and then returned with her family to the Comox Valley in 1956, where she lived until she met Robert Green in 1962. They married in October 1963, and moved to Horne Lake where her daughter Shelley and son Joe were born. In 1973 Fay and her husband and children moved once again back to the Comox Valley where she remained until her death.
Fay is pre-deceased by her mother Margaret and father Ernest, her husband Robert, nephews Tommy, Gary and Bruce.
She is survived by her loving daughter Shelley Anderson and son Robert Green; her granddaughters Jessica & Katelyn Anderson; brother Archie Doucette; sisters Shirley (John) Robbins, Joan Wydenes, Judy (Paul) Laviolette; and many nieces and nephews; and also 2 very special people in her life Maria Coelho and Grace Willis.

Anita passed peacefully and beautifully on Saturday night at Ty Watson House in Port Alberni. She was pre-deceased by her brother Shannon and her father Wilfred Fortier. Anita leaves behind her mother Simone, four brothers; Edward, Gary, Warren, and Mark and two sisters Lorraine and Priscilla. She also leaves many nieces and nephews.
Anita was loved by so many people. She touched so many of us in so many different ways; we will all miss her. Most of all we will miss her humour, her laugh and her zest for life.
A Celebration of Anita's life will be held on Friday, May 16th at 3 pm at the Baptist Church, 6211 Cherry Creek Rd., Port Alberni.
