On Good Friday, March 21st Amy passed away suddenly at Comox, B.C., into the presence of her Lord.
Amy is pre-deceased by one daughter, Linda and her brother, Joe Archer. Amy is survived by her husband of 59 years, Alfred; and 5 children: Brian (Marlene) of Comox; Rick (Carol) of Sault Saint Marie, ON; Randy (Catharine) of Maple Ridge, BC; Wendy (Ron) Takenaka of Peachland, BC and Ed (Judy) of Trenton, ON; as well as 9 grandchildren: Heather, Matthew, Jake, Kayla, Loren, Stacey, Avery, Tristen, and Trinity.
A Memorial Service will be held March 26th at 2 pm at Courtenay Fellowship Baptist Church in Courtenay.

Ina Sinclair quietly passed away Saturday, May 31 at the age of 89. She was born in Taber, AB; then in 1939, she moved to Bevan. Later, in 1955 the family settled in Cumberland, where Ina spent the last 53 years.
She is pre-deceased by her husband John (Jan. 31, 1993) and son Tom (Mar. 15, 2008). She is survived by her daughter Rosalie (Tom Forrest of Courtenay, and sons Bernard (Rone) of Victoria and Charles (Linda) of Courtenay.
She will be fondly remembered as Nana to her grandchildren: Angie, John, Jillian, Jennifer, Rosanne, Graham, Tyler, Courtney and 9 great-grandchildren.
Despite the many challenges of raising a family of four in a small coal mining town (Bevan), Ina found pleasure in being involved in a variety of community activities such as the P.T.A., women's softball team, Xmas concerts, and training her offspring for the Miner's Day or 24th of May Sports Days.
Being raised on a prairie farm, Ina was no stranger to hard work and in 1953 started her own working career. In the early 60's, Ina upgraded her secretarial skills and took the civil service exam to qualify for a position with the Post Office in Courtenay, where she remained until she retired in 1982.
Ina was actively involved in the Pythian Sisters, Rebekah Lodge, and the O.A.P.
She was always a willing helper with catering, and other fundraising activities, especially those related to the Child Development Centre in Cumberland. She was very willing to be in charge and "worked her fingers to the bone".
In her retirement years, she and John often traveled in "Trilly" to visit family and friends from Kitimat, to the Prairies, to Oregon and Victoria.
A graveside service will be held at the Cumberland Cemetery on Tuesday, June 10, 2008 at 12 pm. Family and friends are invited to a 1 pm. Tea at the Cumberland O.A.P. Hall.

Ethel passed away peacefully at Laurel Lodge in Courtenay. She was pre-deceased by her husband Thomas, and is survived by sons Thomas and Stephen, and grandchildren Laura and Ian. She was a tireless volunteer always ready to lend a helping hand. She will be greatly missed by family and friends.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in memory of Ethel to the Canadian Diabetes Society.
A Memorial Service will be held June 10 at 1:00 pm at Piercy's Mt. Washington Funeral Home. A reception will follow the service.

Marion Eveline Mantel, 62, of Fanny Bay BC, with her loving family at her side, passed away peacefully at her home on May 24, 2008 after a long and courageous battle with cancer. Born in Vancouver, BC on June 16, 1945, she was the daughter of Wilfert and Jessie (Jaques) Hill. Her husband of 44 years Gerhard had stayed with her and helped, loved and supported Marion throughout her illness. She will be remembered by family and friends as a warm, loving and caring person. Marion was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, sister and friend. Marion will be sadly missed by her loving husband, Gerhard; her son Michael (Heather) of Victoria, BC; daughter Tammy (Chris) Pirie of Tilley, NB; grandsons Gabriel and Tyberius Pirie; brothers Clifford (Janice) Hill of Calgary, AB, David (Janice) Hill of Nanaimo, BC; brother-in-law Fred (Colleen) Mantel of Chilliwack BC; 6 nieces and nephews. Marion was pre-deceased by her Parents Wilfert and Jessie Hill. In accordance to Marion’s wishes, no Funeral Services shall be held. A “Celebration of Life” occurred on May 25th, 2008 at her home attended by her immediate family and friends. As an expression of sympathy, those who wish to do so may send donations in memory of Marion to the BC Cancer agency.

Pat passed away peacefully early Thursday morning. She was pre-deceased by her husband Douglas. She will be sadly missed by her sons David and Corey (Rhonda); grandchildren Jennifer, Nathan and Sarah; as well as her extended family.
A special thanks goes to Evelyn, Leona and the rest of the staff at Cummings Home for making moms last days dignified and comfortable. A Celebration of Life will be held for Patricia at the Comox Community Baptist Church on Saturday at 1:00 pm. In lieu of flowers donations can be made to the Heart or Cancer Fund.

It is with great sadness that we announce the unexpected passing of my love and friend Jim (Humpy). Jim had a love of life, putting his heart, soul and artistic ability into all his projects for himself and his friends.
You could always count on Humpy to help on motorcycles & cars, these were his two loves. His last project was his 1958 Corvette he was working on.
He is survived by his beloved wife and partner of 50 years, Sheila, his sisters, nieces, nephews and so many special friends.
Special thanks to Dr. Fitzpatrick, St. Joseph's Hospital, and all the staff on Third Floor who helped him have a peaceful passing with his family through the night.
A Celebration of his Life was held at the Fanny Bay Hall, Saturday May 31, 2008 from 2pm-4pm. Flowers gratefully declined in consideration of the Heart and Stroke Foundation, P.O. Box 1225, Comox, B.C. V9N 7Z8.

Formerly of Courtenay, passed away at Queen Elizabeth II Hospital in Halifax, N.S. on Saturday, May 10, 2008, aged 82. Predeceased by his wife Eva, he is survived and will be dearly missed by his daughters Judy and Terry; grandchildren Naomi, Lynette, Tamara, Shylo, Jamie and Joey, great grandsons, Tristan and Nicholas, as well as his sister Audrey.
A service of remembrance in celebration of his life will take place on Tuesday, May 27th at 2 p.m. from St. John the Divine Anglican Church, with Father George Daley officiating. STUART - Grover Hamilton of Courtenay, passed away suddenly at St. Joseph's General Hospital on Saturday, May 10, 2008, aged 83, in the presence of his family. He was pre-deceased by his parents, Grover Franklin Stuart, and Lillian Beatrice Stuart, and his wife Mary Ellen. Grover is survived and will be dearly missed by his daughters Teresa MacIntosh (Ken) of Winnipeg and Diane Stuart (Dirk Trigg) of Kamloops; son Wayne Stuart (Maryanne) of Nanaimo; grandchildren Michael, Shannon, Shaun, Adam, Sabrina, Merissa and Elysha, as well as great-grandchildren Alexander, Dakota and Ashton and his buddy Taz. He served proudly with the RCAF in both Canada and Europe, seeing service in England during World War Two. For many years Grover was well-known as manager of the Comox Valley Food Bank, was a longtime member of Branch 160, Royal Canadian Legion Comox and recently joined the Evergreen Seniors. In his leisure, he enjoyed spending time in the outdoors, particularly camping, hunting and fishing and thoroughly enjoyed his many trips to Reno. A Service of Remembrance in celebration of Grover's life will take place from Branch 160, Comox Legion on Tuesday, May 20, 2008 at 2:00 pm. A well known, well loved, and respected citizen of the Comox Valley, Nelson McInnis passed away unexpectedly on Saturday, May 10, 2008 at the age of 89 years. Predeceased by his wife Joan in 1995, Nelson is survived by his daughter Sybil (Doug) of Courtenay, granddaughter Kimberly of Victoria and many nieces and nephews.
Nelson was born in Baynes Lake, B.C. on February 13, 1919 as one of the seven children of Hugh and Bessie McInnis. He grew up in the small town of Yahk, B.C. and graduated from high school in Trail. Following the outbreak of World War ll Nelson went overseas with the R.C.A.F. and was stationed at Linton On Ouse, England where he served as a bombardier on Lancasters and was awarded seven medals including the Distinguished Flying Cross for service to his country. While in England, Nelson met his future wife Joan and the newly married couple returned to Canada in 1945. Later that year, Nelson and Joan arrived in the Comox Valley where Nelson became employed at the Morris and Godley Furniture Store on Fifth Street.
Always interested in the well being of young people, Nelson decided to enter the teaching profession and began an illustrious career in September, 1957 at the new Lake Trail Junior High School. This was the beginning of a long and distinguished twenty-eight year career in education including appointments as Principal of Arden, Union Bay, Tsolum, Airport and Cumberland Elementary Schools as well as a term as District Principal and as a curriculum consultant with the Department of Education in Victoria. Thousands of Comox Valley students share pleasant and happy memories of their school experiences with Nelson McInnis as both a teacher and a Principal. Nelson was also well known for the encouragement and inspiration he provided to his many teaching colleagues.
Nelson was an individual who believed in giving back to his community. As such, he was a founding CO of the Comox Valley Air Cadet Squadron, a supporter of the Comox Valley Boys and Girls Club, a co-founder of the Comox Valley Big Brothers; Chairman of the United Way; past President of the Comox Valley S.P.C.A. as well as an active member of the Church of St. John the Divine and an participant in the restoration of St. Andrews Church in Sandwick. Other community involvement included membership in the city of Courtenay Heritage Committee, Co-Chairman of the B.C. Seniors Games and past President of the C.D.T.A. Nelson was also a co-author of the successful book "Land of Plenty" - a History of the Comox District. His service to community was formally recognized in 2001 with the honour of being named a Freeman of the City of Courtenay.
The family would like to express their sincere gratitude to the staff of Abbeyfield House for their very wonderful care and attention toward Nelson over the past four years. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Comox Valley S.P.C.A. or the Comox Valley Boys and Girls Club.
A Christian service for Nelson will be conducted at the Northgate Foursquare Church, 1640 Burgess Rd, Courtenay at 2:00pm Friday May 16th - fellowship and refreshments following.
