Hoogendyk, Joanna Alida (Anke) Sunday, 30 Mar 2008
Vernon, BC
December 10, 1925 – March 30, 2008
The heavens are one star brighter since the sparkle that was Joanna left this world to be with our Lord.
Joanna was born the 4th of 6 children in Rotterdam Holland. She loved to travel, and experience the beauty of nature and all God’s creatures. Her gentle respect for all things was apparent through the attention and care she gave to her plants and flowers, her many beloved pets over the years, and to each person in her life. Joanna married Leendert on August 23rd, 1951 while living in Indonesia, and was proud to share 56 years as his devoted wife. In 1958, the couple immigrated to Canada and raised daughters Joanna & Wendy (son Maarten died Aug.’68) in Burnaby B.C. So many wonderful memories were created and have now become the stories that the grandchildren, Stephanie, Nichole, Adam, Megan, Alysha & Taylar hear time and time again at family gatherings. In 1983, the pair moved to California where they lived for 8 years before returning to B.C. to retire to their beautiful cabin-on-the lake in Vernon, which they both loved so dearly. In their later years, Leen & Joanna travelled often, and enjoyed traveling to exotic locations including the Caribbean, Tahiti, Alaska, Portugal and Hawaii. Never a harsh word spoken, always a good deed, Joanna was loved by everyone for her kindness and thoughtfulness. The world is a better place for having known her.
