Miller, Kathleen Mary Callaghan Rogers Saturday, 01 Dec 2007
Courtenay, BC
May 14, 1926 ~ December 1, 2007
Always a lover of travel Kathleen began her journey May 14, 1926 in Ireland. The family moved to London where she grew up in ‘Shepherd’s Bush’. Kathleen married Andy Rogers, a Canadian Soldier, September 21, 1946 and came to Fanny Bay, as a war bride. Kathleen and Andy had 3 sons and spent many happy years in Fanny Bay. Sadly, Andy pre-deceased Kathleen July 4, 1962.
Kathleen and Don Miller were married in March 13, 1981 and spent many years working and travelling in the USA. Kathleen and Don retired to Campbell River to be closer to family and friends and where they continued their passion for travel. Don’s health declined over the years and Kathleen cared for him tirelessly until his passing May 6, 2007.
Kathleen loved her home on the water, spending time watching the ever-changing seascape, feeding ‘Jonathon Seagull’ and doing her crossword puzzles to keep her mind ‘sharp’.
After a short battle with cancer; fought with courage, bravery and humour, Kathleen’s journey ended December 1, 2007 at Campbell River Hospital.
Kathleen’s greatest joy was her family. She leaves her memory with sons: Barry (Janette), Blair (Cheryl) and Andy (Karen), daughter-in-law Judy (Warren), brother Terry (Kitty) in England; grandchildren Teresa, James, Andrea, Kim, Moira and Amanda; great-grandchildren: Andrew, Matthew, Shelby and Braidyn. Stepchildren Beth (Dennis), Jean (Dennis), Bob (Gail) and Terry (Deb); grandchildren Debra, Steve, Jeffrey, Jordan, Dan, Caelan, Lindsay and Rhea; great-grandchildren Hollye and Carter.
There are many more relatives and friends too numerous to mention but you all know you are in Kathleen’s heart.
To all who had the privilege of knowing Kathleen she will be remembered for her wonderful smile, wit, humour, optimism, generosity and ability to make friends wherever life’s journey took her.
At Kathleen’s request there will be a service only, December 7 at 11:00 am at St. Patrick's Church, 34 South Alder St., Campbell River.
Donations if desired to Campbell River Hospice Society, #104-301 Dogwood Ave., Campbell River, B.C. V9W 2Y1.
A special thank you to Dr. James, the Hospice Society, St. Patrick's Church, and the wonderful staff on 3rd North. To all Kathleen’s friends and family thank you for being there.

Strussi, Renato (Satch) Thursday, 22 Nov 2007
Courtenay, BC
October 13, 1930 - November 22, 2007
It is with deep sadness we announce the passing of our precious husband, father, grandfather, brother and friend. On November 22nd, 2007 after a short battle with cancer, Renato Strussi (Satch) left us with the happy memories of a loving and devoted family man, an avid fisherman, and a true friend.
Satch was born to Deviderio Strussi and Livia Badini in Gropparello Piacenza, Italy. At just over 2 pounds, Satch started his life sleeping in a shoebox which his mother would place in her dresser drawer. He moved to Canada with his family when he was just a year old. Satch was a long time resident of Cumberland who worked in the mine as a young man before moving onto the forest industry.
Satch was known for his honest, outspoken personality, his quick wit and feisty attitude. He was always singing a song while dancing his special dance. He had an unmistakable laugh and great smile. He was a strong- minded man with morals who spoke up for what he believed in.
As an avid hunter and fisherman, he enjoyed sharing fishing stories with anyone who wanted to listen. He loved to do all kinds of fishing whether it was in a boat with his sons-in-law, brothers-in-law, nephews or friends and children. It could be fishing for trout on any of the lakes, steelhead fishing in the river or salmon fishing. He had his first ride on a quad when his nephew took him on a fishing trip. It was probably the only trip that didn’t matter whether he got a fish or not. ‘He was an expert at tying flies and made a lot of them for friends and family as well as donating them for the silent auction. Satch was also famous for his smoked fish, you could smell that smoker going all the time. He always had a beautiful garden even though it got smaller over the years, he still had one and you could be guaranteed fresh radishes on May Day weekend.
In his youth Satch enjoyed playing soccer and enjoyed the old time soccer games during the May Day weekends in Cumberland. He also loved watching his hockey games on TV, especially if the Canucks were playing.
He loved to get down on the floor with the grandkids to play trucks, host a tea party, make paper airplanes or just play peek-a-boo. Christmas was his favorite holiday. His laughter when he played with the kids and their toys brought the house alive.
Satch was loved and will be greatly missed by his wife Dorothy; children: Sharlene (Leonard), Shane (Diane), Patty (Eric), Cindy (Harry), Trudy (Kevin), Tammy, Buddy (Vicky) and Rene (Jim), Trudy May, his 25 grandchildren and 24 great-grandchildren; brother Nick, and countless unforgettable friends.
Satch was pre-deceased by his brothers Sylvio and Roberto, 2 grandchildren and 1 great-grandchild.
His service was held at Christ the King Catholic Church on Tuesday, November 27, 2007.
Thanks to special long time friends Reno and Margaret Branchi and Trudy Somerville.
