Banta, Lucille Tuesday, 27 Nov 2007
Vernon, BC
25 March 1911 - 27 November 2007
Gone to join her husband, Carl.
Born Anne Ruth Murray, in Pincher Creek, Alberta, Lucille’s life is a vast, colourful quilt of richly woven fabric.
Fostered on her grandparent’s farm, she attended a one-room school on horseback. She started her first family with a farmer on the Matsqui floodplain. She long-lined dogfish to be rendered for oil to de-ice the wings of WW II aircraft. She cooked in a logging camp at Telegraph Cove where killer whales rubbed on log booms. She cooked aboard coastal freighters where she met Carl, the deckhand who became her second husband. She designed and tailored clothes, she owned a restaurant, and she meditated with the Maharishi. She filled every nook and cranny of her ninety-six years and then she wrote a book about it.
Lucille is pre-deceased by her husband, Carl, and her sister Mary. She is also pre-deceased, sadly, by her daughter, Shirley, her granddaughter, Tricia, and her great-grandson, Robert. She is survived with loving memories by five children, ten grandchildren, fourteen great-grandchildren and a long list of extended family enriched by having known her.
We will miss you, Mom. Bon voyage. Thanks for the love.
Honoring her wishes, there will be no public service.

Simpson, Gladys Saturday, 24 Nov 2007
Vernon, BC
Gladys Evelyn (Peggy) Simpson (nee: Measor) was born August 12, 1937, in Windsor, Ontario, and passed away peacefully on November 24th, 2007 at the Vernon Jubilee Hospital, in Vernon, B.C., with her daughters at her side. She will be lovingly remembered by her children, John (Cathey), Peggy (Alan), Mark, and Mary (Martin). Her grandchildren, Spencer, Taylor, Derek, Janet, and Nichol will also miss Grandma Peg’s humour and generosity, as will her family and friends in Windsor, Ontario, Burns Lake and Vernon, B.C.
Peg was the youngest of seven children, and took delight in boasting that because of her small size as an infant, the maternity staff did not think Peg would survive. She proved them wrong, by living 70 full years, enduring life’s challenges and embracing life’s joys until the end.
She was a library teacher, a mother, a Windsor City councilor, a grandmother and a friend. She loved games, jazz music, Christmas baking, CBC Comedy, and reading.
A celebration of life service will be held Sunday, December 2nd at All Saints Anglican Church, at 2:00pm, with the Reverend Jane Bourcet as celebrant.
As an expression of sympathy, those who wish to do so, may send donations in memory of Peggy to the VJH Foundation “Light a Bulb” campaign, or Bridges to New Life Ministry 15654 Oyama Rd, Lake Country, B.C. V9V 2E1.
