It is with great sadness, the family announces the passing of Ruth Mayford Mort on Sept. 19, 2007
Ruth was born to parents Claude & Janie Moore in Peace River, Alberta on October 20th, 1925. Ruth was pre-deceased by sister Doreen, husband Jack, children Sharon & Kenneth and grandson Daniel. She is survived by siblings, George (Donna), Bruce (Terri), Marge (Walter) & Ethel, and children Bev (Henri), Doug (Barb), Joyce, Kristine (Derrik), Karen (Mike), 10 grandchildren, 3 great grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews.
Mom was a longtime resident of Nanoose Bay and worked as a waitress for many years. Mom was a hardworking, kind, loving woman who saw the best qualities in each person she met. Family and friends were most important to her, she always had a hug, a meal, or a laugh to share.
Mom battled Alzheimer's disease and was a resident of Arranglen/Qualicum Gardens for the past 4 years. The Family thanks the amazing staff on the 3rd floor for the outstanding care they provided and for the extra hugs and kisses they gave Mom.
Rest in Peace Mom, we will always love you and carry you in our heart.
A tea will be held at Nanoose Place, Saturday Sept. 29, 1:00 - 3:00 PM to celebrate her life.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Alzheimer's Society or the Cancer Society.
KNUDSEN, Gerhard Lloyd (Bud) Tuesday, 18 Sep 2007

Bud was born in Prince Albert Sask. Feb 25, 1931, and passed away Sept. 18/07 at Nanaimo Palliative Care after a lengthy illness of brain cancer.
Predeceased by his mother Gunhild and father Lars as well as brother Paul.
Bud is survived by his loving partner and friend Leslie Meryl, two daughters Cori (Lloyd), Shawna (Bruce) twin sister Lila and sister Vylma, sister-in-law Valerie (Paul) sister-in-law Elsie (Ron) and six step children. Many grandchildren and six great grandchildren as well as many nieces and nephews.
We will miss and love him forever.
There will be a celebration of life on Oct.13th, 1-4pm, at the Eagle Hall, Pioneer Crescent, Parksville.
In lieu of flowers donations for the Hospice Society would be appreciated.

Born July 9th, 1953 passed away peacefully on September 18, 2007 at Coombs, B.C.
Predeceased by his father, Frank; brother, Raymond; and nephew, Will Spensley.
He is sadly missed & lovingly remembered by his mother, Keren; children, Devon (Ben) Buerge and Stephen (Erin); grandchildren, Asher & Jaeden Buerge; brother, Clayton (Valma); sisters Patricia (Harry) Slobadan and Lenore (Mark) Spensley, as well as aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews and friends.
We will remember Gary for his respect of nature & life and for his love of learning and teaching.

Born August 2, 1919 in Edmonton, Alberta. passed away peacefully September 18, 2007 at his new home in Youbou.
Arthur was pre-deceased by his first wife Jessie Franke and second wife Maureen A. Hanigan. He is survived by his son Arthur, granddaughter April, grandson Danail, great grandson William, daughter Suzanne (Garry) Loney, grandsons Jarred, Kodey and Zackery.
He lived and died on his own terms.

Arlene Walsh of Nanaimo, BC passed away peacefully after a sudden illness in Nanaimo Regional Hospital on September 17, 2007
She is survived by her children Donna (Kim) Hay, Lynn (Kerry) Davison and John (Susan) Walsh, her grandchildren, Aaron and Jocelyn Hay, Jenna and Emma Davison and John, Zachary, Maggie and Samuel Walsh, siblings Ardith (deceased), Beverly, Kaye, Paul and Guy as well as many nieces and nephews.
Arlene was born February 18, 1933 and raised on the family farm near Davidson, Saskatchewan, the oldest child of Eva and Hans Riecken. She moved to Cedar, BC at age 16 attending John Shaw High School and than working as a telephone operator and bank teller. She married John Walsh of Cedar August 23, 1952. They raised their family for a few years in Cedar before settling at home on Echo Valley Farm in Qualicum Beach. Later, she lived in Nanaimo and worked for many years at the Tally Ho Hotel, as the front desk receptionist, until her retirement.
Arlene took great pride in her family and home. She was a superb cook and talented seamstress with an attention to detail. She loved to read and do crosswords and was a real history buff. Her biggest joy was visiting with family and hearing about her grandchildren’s exploits. She lit up the room at family gatherings and will be dearly missed by them and all who knew her.
Cremation has taken place. A Celebration of Life will be held Saturday, October 6, 2007 from 1:00 p.m. to 3:00 p.m. at St. Stephens United Church Hall, 150 Village Way, Qualicum Beach.

SUMMERFELT, Howard George passed away peacefully in Whiterock on Sept. 14, 2007.
Howard was born in Sask. Feb. 16, 1925. As a young boy his family moved to Bowser where he enjoyed a lot of his working life until moving to Vancouver to finish his working career.
A lot of people will remember him for his beautiful Wedding Cakes that graced a lot of head tables. He also liked travelling around the world. He loved Greece so much he decided to spend a lot of time there after he retired, returning to BC for 4 or 5 months a year.
Howard was pre-deceased by his mother Ila, father Jack, stepfather Bill Smith, brother Wilfred and sister Noreen. He is survived by his brothers, Gordon of Edmonton, Lyle (Vera) of Qualicum, Lloyd and Bill (Marge) of Wilkie Sask. and sister Doris (Gordon) of Battleford Sask. Many cousins, nieces and nephews.
We will have a celebration of life at the Bowser Legion on September 29 at 11:00 a.m.

Born in St Boniface, Manitoba August 23, 1926, Alice died peacefully December 4, 2007 at age 81 years with family, in Squamish, British Columbia
Alice is survived by her second husband Herbert H. Barber (Parksville), and step-daughter Linda Barber (Peter Verney) of Ottawa. Alice was pre-deceased by her husband Charles (Charlie) G. Byrne and is survived by their children Dianne Hymers (Winnipeg), Caron Byrne (Qualicum Beach), Roderick Byrne (Sandra) of Edmonton, Charles J. Byrne (Vancouver), Michael Byrne (Susan LeBlanc) of Squamish, daughter-in-law Loretta Byrne (North Vancouver), son-in-law Ron Postl (Qualicum Beach), sisters Terry Fairchild and Jeanne Chabot of Montreal; grandchildren Andrew, Stephen (Loren), Brendan (Theresa), Colin, Alan, Lucas, Emma, Dillon, Evan, Katelyn, Maxwell, Samantha and great grandchildren Brianna, Caelyn, Gabrielle, Natalie and Evelyn and many nieces and nephews.
Alice, the youngest of seven children was pre-deceased by her beloved older brothers Gustave, Ernest, and Roland Chabot and sister, Louise England and her parents Joseph A. Chabot and Alice (Turenne) Chabot of St. Boniface.
Alice was the centering life force responsible for keeping her family intact and forward moving. When Charlie was stricken with Multiple Sclerosis in 1960 she returned to full time work, providing for her five children, while remaining Charlie’s sole care giver, in their Winnipeg home, until 1977.
Alice retired in 1986 after many years with the Royal Bank. Alice and Herb were married in 1988, and in 1991 they moved from Winnipeg making their home in Parksville, B.C. Alice loved to host dinners and treat us all to her wonderful meals and desserts. In her retirement she enjoyed traveling with Herb, playing bridge, trying her luck at the casino, and keeping up with the emerging lives of her much loved grandchildren and great grandchildren. Known as Mom Byrne, Alice always marked and honoured the significant events and achievements of her family and friends of all ages.
In death as in life she will be cherished for her strength and courage, and for her selfless contributions to the welfare of her family and friends.
The joy of Alice will be celebrated at a memorial service Saturday December 15th 3:30 pm at St. Stephen’s United Church, 150 Village Way, Qualicum Beach BC.
Cremation was on December 8, 2007 at the Squamish Funeral Chapel, with final internment to be in Winnipeg at a future date.

Nancy de Candole passed away peacefully at Qualicum Manor in the early morning hours of Dec 3, 2007. She was 96.
She was pre-deceased by her husband Corry, brothers Charles and Arthur Luce and sisters Rachel Nash and Kathleen Luce. She is survived by her four children: daughters Janet Holt and Clare Bennett (Keith) and sons James and Richard (Wendy), grandchildren David, Jon, Richard, Simon, Andrew, Cris, Nicola, Emily and Derek and nine great-grandchildren.
Nancy was born on April 25, 1911 in Derby, England. She was the youngest of five children of Richard and Mary Luce. Her father was a medical doctor who during World War I served as the Director of Medical Services of the Egyptian Expeditionary Force and later became a Member of the British Parliament. As a teenager Nancy attended Sandecotes School for Girls where she excelled in music and was chosen head girl in her final year. In 1931 she attended the Royal College of Music in London obtaining an A.R.M.C. in piano. While in London she met her husband Corry and they were married on Jan. 30, 1933 in Bombay where Corry had received his first posting as a medical doctor with Royal Army Medical Corp. They returned to England prior to World War II then in 1951 immigrated to Canada where Corry took positions as a physiologist with the Department of National Defence first at a research lab outside Medicine Hat, Alberta then in Toronto. In 1965 they retired to a former Doukhobor farm outside Qualicum Beach, a forested sanctuary she enjoyed for over 40 years. Nancy taught piano for nearly 70 years and was an inspiration and guiding light to many students. Many people were also touched by her deep Christian faith and generous heart. As a young mother attending a free church in Scotland she came alive in the spirit and committed her life to His service. In the 1950s she became an Associate with the Sisters of St. John the Divine based in Toronto. As a long-time member of St. Mark’s Anglican Church she served as choir director and warden and was a founding member of the Peace & Environment Committee as well as an inter-denominational meditation group. She was also very active in the Oceanside arts community and served as pianist for the Parksville Community Choir for many years. In lieu of flowers please make donations to a charity of your choice.
The family wishes to say thank you to the wonderful staff at Qualicum Manor for their love and care over the last two years. Also thank you to Rev. Alan Naylor and Ron Yates for their help and support. A memorial service will take place on Saturday, Dec. 8 at 11 a.m. at St. Mark’s Anglican Church, Qualicum Beach.
