Irene Conway passed peacefully in the early morning of January 28th, 2008
Predeceased by Ronald Conway in 1990. Survived by son Douglas Conway and family, Patricia Conway and family and brother George Christopher and many good friends.
Enjoyed her years of retirement in Qualicum Beach.
Service will be held at Yates Funeral Chapel on February 4th, 2008 at 1:00 PM.

SEINEN, Gezienus (Gus) Sunday, 27 Jan 2008

It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Gezienus Seinen.
Gus was born in the Netherlands in 1926 and passed away at age 81 on January, 27th, 2008
Gus and his wife Jantje immigrated to Canada in 1952 and for more than 35 years he lived in Port Alberni and worked for Macmillan Bloedel before retiring to Qualicum Beach. Gus was pre-deceased by wife Jantje and brother Seine; he is survived by brother Jan, sisters Truus and Fenna, special friend Mary, son John (Deborah), daughters Trudy (Leighton), Fenny (Jim) and Jeanette (Brian), grandchildren Kris, Adrian, Mark, Sarah, Michael and Matthew, and remembered by nieces and nephews in Canada and the Netherlands.
A family celebration of life will be held on March 2nd.

Died suddenly at home on Sunday, March 30, 2008, in Nanaimo, pre-deceased by husband Frank in 1999, son John in 2001 and brother Don (England) 2005. She leaves to mourn; daughter Kathleen, son-in-law Gordon Lyons, grandsons; Jason, Ben and Tyler, great grandsons; Adam and Nicholas, son David and daughter-in-law Sandra, grandson Christopher, grand-daughters; Rebecca, Erika, and brother Dennis and families in England, also god-daughter Ruth-Helen Philpott, (England).
Eileen was born in Toronto, Ontario in 1925, the family then moved to Vancouver in 1928. Starting at the age of 7, she soon became an accomplished pianist. At the age of 9, in Vancouver, she played Paderewski’s “Minuet in G” on CKMO Radio. She attended Sir James Douglas School and in 1939 the family moved to England. She joined the ATS (Auxiliary Territorial Service) in 1943, later volunteering for overseas, serving in Southeast Asia command. She worked in Top Secret Signals and later in the Secretariat of Lord Louis Mountbatten in Ceylon, India and Singapore. She was always proud that she had been chosen as one of the 21 member First Echelon out of 500 interviewed in London, England.
In 1946 Eileen returned to England, married, and had three children and in 1965 returned to “her beloved Canada”. In 1974 Eileen arrived on Vancouver Island to visit daughter Kathleen and her babies, and stayed for 1 year working for the Parksville Progress (predecessor to the Star) before returning to Ontario. In 1979 she moved to Gabriola Island and later to Parksville to fill a busy schedule as a Music Director at St. Andrews United Church, Nanaimo, 7 years at St. Columba Presbyterian Church, many music pupils, and numerous other music events. Over the course of the next 20 years, Eileen performed with various groups and bands, at nursing homes, churches, concert halls and music venues all around Vancouver Island.
While battling Pancreatic cancer and Diabetes, Eileen’s final engagements in December 2006 were 5 performances of the “Music of Bethlehem” between Dec. 1st and 15th and 10 performances of Echo Theatre’s “Sleeping Beauty” as Pianist between Dec 20th and Dec 31st. In 2007 she still performed at various events : Oct 5 – Memorial Service; Nov 25 - A Vigil to Celebrate A Life; Dec 20 – Fireside Xmas; Jan 3, 2008 – Jason and Friends; until she finally succumbed to her illness.
Eileen will always be remembered as a loving, caring person whose musical talent was an inspiration to everyone around her. She will be deeply missed and never forgotten by all who knew and loved her.

FAULDER (nee Green), Velma Nellie Saturday, 29 Mar 2008

Velma Nellie Faulder (nee Green) of Calgary passed away on Saturday, March 29, 2008, at the age of 87 years.
Velma was born and raised in London, ON where she worked as a secretary before moving to Moose Jaw with her husband, Murray, in 1945. With Murray in the RCAF, they lived in several Canadian cities before settling in Calgary in 1959. Velma worked for the Calgary Public School Board in various schools, as a secretary, until retiring to Qualicum Beach, BC in 1982. Velma returned to Calgary in 1999, a few years after Murray's passing, to be closer to family. She lived the last few years of her life at Sierra's of Heritage where she made so many wonderful friends and played Bridge several times a week. She loved people and was always ready to lend an ear or a helping hand to anyone who had need.
Velma is lovingly remembered by her three daughters and two sons-in-law, Linda Miller, Leith Syratt (John), and Leslie McManus (Peter). She is also survived by one brother William Green; and one sister-in-law Ruth (Bob). She was pre-deceased by her beloved husband Murray; precious granddaughter Lindsay McManus; parents Marion and Ernest Green; and brothers, Jack, George, Bob, and Norm. Nana/G.G. will be sadly missed by six grandchildren, Daniel Miller, Kimberley Gouchee (Trevor), Peter Syratt (Ruth), James Syratt (Rachel), JP McManus and Joy Syratt; and six great-grandchildren, Joshua, Maisy, Maia, Jessica, Cait, and Emily.
A Celebration of Velma's Life will be held at Lutheran Church of Our Saviour (8831 Fairmount Drive S.E., Calgary, AB) on Tuesday, April 8, 2008 at 11:00 a.m.

It is with great heartfelt sadness that the family of Ann Nancy Smith announces her passing.
Ann was born in the small town of Timmins Ontario on Feb 5, 1934, the first daughter to Madeline Bertha Parliament and John (Jack) David Clements.
At the young age of eighteen she married Patrick Vincent Smith, an army sergeant in the Canadian 8th Hussars. The years of army postings around the globe were full with the raising of eight offspring. She tirelessly treasured her time nurturing her rambunctious young children and grandchildren. That defines Ann, a truly sharing, caring, loving mother and grandmother. Among her many talents Ann was a culinary cook extraordinaire (She made amazing bread!), and was masterful at needlework and enjoyed gardening and animals.
In the 1980’s she relocated to Qualicum Beach with her partner George Hopcraft where she continued to work in the service of her community as a home support caregiver.
Ann was pre-deceased by Pat, her first husband, her sister Jean Leonard and daughter-in-law Julie Smith.
Ann is survived by her loving family, partner George Hopcraft, children; Dave of Collingwood, Ontario, Blaise of Wabamun, Alberta, Deana McNish (Gerry) of Prince Rupert, BC, Adrianne McNabb (Rob) of Royston, BC, Lee (Dawn) of Parry Sound, Ontario, Patrick (Judy) of Victoria Harbour, Ontario, Scott (Cyndy) of Angus, Ontario, currently serving in the Middle East, Leslie Nichols (Jeremy) of Waterford, Michigan and numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
To cherish her memory she leaves behind; Lynn Sherman, Terry Smith, sisters; Vera, Judy and Gail, brothers; Bill and Brian, as well as the multitude of nieces, nephews, and friends.
The family wishes to thank the nursing staff and aids at the Arranglen Gardens and The Gardens at Qualicum Beach for their dedicated care of Ann these past few years.

She will be lovingly remembered by her daughters Carol Slater (David), Susan Alberg, Judy Alberg (Don), son Michael Bidwell, grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and friends.
A special thank you to the caregivers, nurses, cooks and staff at Qualicum Manor for the wonderful care she was shown each day.
A service was held at the Christadelphian Hall of Victoria, on Wednesday, April 2nd.

Predeceased by her husband Burton McPhee Graham in 1976; son James David Graham in 2007 and brother Walter Clark.
She will be remembered with love by her sisters Audrey McGregor and Gloria McEwen: her children Burton McPhee Graham (Betty), Jon Lorne Graham (Judith) and Ellen Victoria Ewonchuk (Dan); grandchildren, Debbie Goodhew, Susan, Leanne, Darrell and Janet Graham, and Peter Ewonchuk; great grandchildren Lydia, Alex, Jessica, Richard and Olivia.
Gerry was a resident of Parksville for the past seven years and a member of St. Columba Presbyterian Church.
To Dr. Richard Henderson and the staff and nurses at Trillium Lodge our family would like to express our gratitude and appreciation for your loving care to Mom.
