SIMONE, Philip (Pete) Thursday, 20 Mar 2008
Parksville, BC
Peacefully, on Thursday, March 20 at Qualicum Beach, British Columbia. Pete, in his 93rd year, cherished husband of Betty (deceased 1993).
Youngest child of Peter and Maria Simone. Uncle was pre-deceased by his siblings – Sarah, Francis and Jim. He is fondly remembered by nieces and nephews Sylvia, Gregory, Lorraine, Suzanne, Philip, Joann, and Peter. Uncle also leaves his dear friend Elizabeth Bell.
Uncle worked for many years for the Ontario government, helping to improve the quality of housing and living conditions for Northern Ontario native communities. During this period he developed an affection for native peoples, their culture, and land. He was kind and generous to his nieces and nephews and would have been a wonderful father had he and Betty been blessed with children.
Uncle and Betty moved to Vancouver Island from Toronto in 1973, within three months of Uncle’s first visit to the Island. They both fell in love with the Island’s beauty and natural surroundings. They shared a love of flying, community involvement, travel, and dogs. Uncle was an avid skeet shooter and strongly supported Betty in her role as Vancouver Island ambassador for the Red Cross, which she served with great distinction during World War II in London. Uncle approached life with his sharp intellect, keen curiosity, a unique sense of humor, and strong organizational skills (a distinct Simone trait!). His was a long life well lived.
At Uncle’s request there will be no funeral. Interment will take place in the near future at the Simone family plot at Mount Hope Cemetery in Toronto, where “Pete” will be buried with his parents and siblings.
